I know he was getting low and scared of Razaketh but near the end when he flashed Derevi out he could have tapped his winter orb and untapped with like 8 mana and a Sylvan library. People often forget this interaction.
Really wasn’t expecting that ending, but wow what an ending! Imagine actually using Demonic Consultation to actually search up the card you need, what a play.
That oath of jace misplay was in my opinion pretty significant. Not only would his aminatou be 2 less loyalty less but he also would not be able to cast mystical tutor if he decided to blink his land to play oath.
Aminatou's flicker ability is a -1 so it would have died at the same time it did in the gameplay and the Mystical Tutor could have been cast in upkeep, still drawing Demonic Consultation. The main different it would have made is it would have kept Adam off of 1 extra mana compared to what is shown here, but based on what everyone else had in hand and the fact that none of us were expecting or prepared for a Spark Double, we decided that in all likelihood he would have been able to pull the combo off on the next turn anyway, and decided that it wasn't worth scrapping the entire game due to this error
@@chihshiangshee9002 To be fair he could have won a lot sooner had he used animatou to blink back his peregrine drake and essentially negate the winter orb. That would have alowed him to use a lot more mana each turn and find the altar of the brood faster.
The deck won with a combo. That misplay let him draw six. . . The game was really fun and good, but that misplay could have changed everything. Those things happen, though, and it was still a great game. 👍
Holy crap, I never would have thought of that infinite mill loop strat. Now I really have a reason to get a spark double and a felidar guardian for my Aminatou flicker deck.
ShinAkuma420 fun fact you can also add Corpse Knight to do infinite dmg and Soul Warden or Impassioned Orator to gain infinite life. Also also if you add Panharmonicon to the mix you can have Felidar Guarians etb to also bounce land and then immediately tap it so you gain a mana off your land on every time it gets flickered so you get infite mana. Same with with either Muldrifter or Cloudblazer, if you have Pan on the field while you go infite you can also get infite draw or if you wanted if you have Pan and Garry and your infite combo you can deal infite dmg and gain infite life simultaneously
There's several two and three card combos with aminatou and you can read about them in an article about her in wizards site or propably any fan primer too!
@@claudsfake2902 I have a soul warden and a impassioned orator in the deck all I really need is a felidar guardian. I also have mirror image in the deck, its no spark double but it works for the combo since it comes in as any creature you control.
Great job as always. I enjoy seeing these decks that use cEDH win cons but with commanders you don't often see at the cEDH tables. It's cool to mix things up like this.
Thanks for doing a Derevi video. She's my first and main edh deck. So satisfying when an opponent plays a winter orb before me and I stax them out of the game with their own artefact. Versatile commander.
I'm surprised Adam didn't win the turn Felidar Guardian resolved with Aminatou out, but good job! I suggest trying out Corpse Knight if you want to add another wincon with infinite ETBs.
Yeah, he played Felidar too early and took too much of a risk on that one since anyone who has played against an Aminatou deck would not want that card to remain (which makes me happy Spark Double is a thing now, that way an aminatou player has alternate methods to do the infinite flicker).
I really liked the game, great content!! One small thing, I believe that Nexus of Fate isn't at all affected by Rest in Peace, so Joseph couldn't have been milled that turn. Of course he didn't have enough mana to actually cast the Nexus so he would have been milled the next turn. :)
I think he did. Looks like the enchanted land is untapped, chrome mox is imprinted blue, one land untapped for turn, swin with derevi to untapped vault...
Aminatou flickers anything you own, not stuff you control, so you should've grabbed that Peregrine Drake for mana. The list really should also include Gilded Drake and Wishclaw Talisman for exactly that reason. Another secret tip is Scroll of Fate. You can manifest a card from your hand, then flicker it to return the card face up, basically allowing you to cheat any permanent into play at the cost of 1 loyalty rather than paying mana costs.
Spoilers: *Potential* missplays not already pointed out: 4:02 Nate playing Yahenni as his commander and not K'rrik. 4:43 Nate playing Dark Ritual to play his useless 1/1 creatures, and does nothing the next turn. 13:20 Not using Aminatou -1 to get his Drake back. 15:51 Piranha Marsh doesn't deal any damage. It makes target player lose 1 life. Not the same. 21:26 Skullclamp dies ??????????????
So that play with the oath of jace ended up mattering a lot. It allowed the mana to be open for mystical tutor that found the demonic consultation so that the game winning combo could be assembled. Normally in the past the minor mistakes didn't amount to anything, but i'd say this was devastating from a play perspective. Still a good game, and was fun to see combos you don't normally get in cedh.5
That was my bad. I'm used to playing flicker decks where you flicker stuff you control. Aminatou was a first for me as you could flicker things you "own" and I wasnt thinking of that part in the game. Part of my long time brago history I'm used to only looking at my own board when it comes to bouncing
At the end there, could bill have stayed alive by using scroll rack? just wait till the dark confidant trigger happened then activate scroll rack for one. Chances are he would have lost anyway due to not drawing new cards but it is worth a shot.
I appreciate you mentioning when mistakes are made and how it would likely effect the game; however, after catching up on the past few episodes, there have been a lot of misplays concerning Aura of Silence. With this being more borderline CEDH, you would think this would be caught more in game considering the amount of use of the card.
Unless the nexus of fate was in hand, Joseph should not have been able to be milled out. He should have been able to shuffle his nexus of fate into his library every time it was milled since there whould be two replacement effects that applied and it was his object that was affected. I dont know whether that would have changed the game but if he could produce atleast 1 more mana in nonland sources from his hand, he should have been able to win since he could produce the first seven mana from the board at the end. (But only once, he needed to either a land and an evasive creature/mana dork or a way to destroy the winter orb)
If I remember correctly I had Nexus of Fate, Nomads En Kor, a creature tutor and a few other misc cards in hand. I had all the pieces I needed, I was just looking for a good opportunity to use a few Derevi triggers to get enough untaps. At the time I felt like trying to stall the game and race Nate in damage was the best option I had to get a turn free
In Derevi list, there is hermit druid with 9 basic lands. I believe, druid is a replacement for breakfast combo, additional way to dig for nexus. So why there are basic lands in the list?
I know this is a year old, but if you're still wondering a sac outlet on a commander is very good. also, he's liable to get pretty big in a game and one shouldn't underestimate the unexpected strength of a big ole indestructible creature, even in commander.
Am I missing something here regarding Rest In Peace and Nexus of Fate in the Derevi deck? Since RIP and Nexus are both replacement effects, the owner of the affected object chooses in which order to apply them. So shouldn’t the derevi deck have a single card library consisting of the Nexus of Fate?
You are correct. Derevi could have swung to untap Mana Vault and cast Nexus once, but after that his Winter Orb would lock him out of the mana to cast Nexus on subsequent turns, so he still would have died because he wouldn't have been able to cast it to get it back into his deck.
Don't know if it was mentioned or not but when Nate stole the Consecrated Sphinx from Josephs gravyard with Dance of the Dead wasn't it supposed to get +1/+1 counter so when Joseph played Swords to Plowshare wouldn't that have gotten him 5 life not 4 - not really sure if it would have mattered or not since the way the game was won, but just curious if maybe you guys missed the +1 power there. Regardless love watching the videos.
I was wondering, it's not really a misplay, but more of a missed opportunity. Couldn't Bill have tried to spin the top for the off chance he could hit a slaugther pact on the 3rd unknown card? It's an extremely low probability, but anything is better than dead.
Honestly, Aminatou surprised me with some of the tricks you can pull off with her. I've never paid her too much attention in the past but after playing this pod my opinion on her definitely changed
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG I made a flicker lifegain and drain deck with her and my word the life I gain in that deck is amazing, and I have different ways of getting a infinite life drain loop going as well as a way of always having approach of the second sun in my hand. I really need a felidar guardian for my deck though cause I could pull off a similar strat to the infinite mill loop except it would drain life as opposed to mill.
ShinAkuma420 imo life drain tends to be a better win con in Amanatou than mill because you never know which decks have a Kozilek within them. I still run both though
@@claudsfake2902 I agree with you there. If they don't have kozilek than its most likely a Gaea's blessing if they running green. Life drain is harder to interrupt once it gets going.

Super way late to this. But isn't nexus of fate a replacement? It never hits the graveyard, so the derevi player would have ended up with a one card library, and the mana to cast it?
The only mistake was Adam playing Felidar as early as he did, because anyone whose had experience with or against Aminatou knows Felidar Guardian is one of the most important pieces in an Aminatou deck and would have exiled it the moment it hit the field or countered it. Luckily he did have Spark Double, so if Felidar Guardian got removed, he could still make a copy of aminatou and repeat this process.
So Adam should have flickered the drake would have entered his battlefield and untapped his land most likely giving him the win depending on his hand not only that his planeswalker wouldn’t have died to the drake
Yeah that was my mistake. Definitely could have sped up my attempt at the win. I completely forgot aminatou was one of the blinkers that can hit something you "own" not just "control". My time playing brago pounded into my head to only blink my own board so I got a bit tunnel visioned with the drake and didnt think of blinking it
The Derevi player should not have been milled out completely. He had Nexus of Fate in his deck, which would go back into his deck instead of being milled. There was a Rest in Peace in play, but both RiP and Nexus are replacement effects of the same type so the player owning Nexus of Fate would be able to choose which replacement effect to apply. I imagine he would choose to not lose the game as he had mana enough to cast Nexus if he taps his own winter orb with Derevi's combat trigger and the Aminatou player didnt have a viable (non chump) blocker
Turn 4 when Nate played reanimate he lost 8 life instead of 6, You said he lost 6 life but the total went from 30 to 22, Kambal wasn't in play so why did he lose 2 extra life? Thankfully after watching the video this didn't have an effect on the end. It looked like he could have died to his own crypt trigger when he should have been at 5 life but he never had to worry about that thanks to Altar of the Brood.
Certain triggers, including "dies" and "leaves the battlefield", are checked based on the game state before the triggering event occurs. So it sees all the creatures that die at the same time it does.
It got countered, so he didn't have to pay. The upkeep cost is not an additional cost, but an effect of the card, so there is no cost if the pact doesn't resolve.
No, they just flicker each other forever. Without anything to double ETBs or benefit off of cards entering the battlefield, nothing happens. Neither card makes token copies, they just flicker the original cards over and over again.
Beautiful game! Petition for a minor improvement: could you pay attention to using accurate rules terms when announcing played cards and abilities? For example, saying "As" enters for playing Cavern of Souls instead of "When", highlighting that it's a replacement effect instead of a triggered ability (and can't be responded to), or saying "lose life" instead of "take damage" for effects that do exactly that but don't technically deal damage. (Loss if life can't be prevented by preventing damage or trigger effects that require damage to be dealt, to name a couple relevant situations.) I think consistency with wording could really do work for everyones rules literacy and help with following game actions. It seems a good fit especially cEDH channels like yours because you care so deeply for quality rules-wise. edit. added an example, changed some writing. language matters :)
I don't know why Joseph kept sending such hate towards Nate but it is what it is. Games like this are also why many players hate stax cards. Not because they slow the game down but mostly because the player also gets slowed down by it. If you're gonna use cards like Winter Orb, then at least have something to get around it easily. Nearly nonbo-ing yourself doesn't make a lot of sense.
If you're talking about me swinging at Nate towards the end, the main reasoning was needed to use Derevi defensively since Nate was being so aggressive, so giving Derevi pseudo vigilance while getting some damage seemed like the best play. I had ways to get around winter orb but they involved using Derevi to generate additional mana advantage which I couldn't do since I was almost required to block with Derevi meaning I really couldn't untap anything other than Derevi on the triggers. If you're referencing the Rest in Peace - I knew he had relevant graveyard pieces in his GY already and I knew he was super close to having all the combo pieces needed to win, so dropping that seemed like a good play. If I had a bit more life or was able to safely use Derevi for mana for a turn or two it would have played out differently

tappedout.net/mtg-decks/zacama-primal-storm-4/
What does ETV mean
Love seeing these less popular decks. See TNT or gitrog in every cEDH game gets boring after a while.
Haven't watched yet. Banking on my fellow yahenni player
useless card
@@ESP4thaWin you're a useless card
Is bill really wearing an ahaego sweatshirt lmaoooo
Is it me ? Or they highlight the triggers more frequent i like it
Turn 4 when Nate played reanimate he lost 8 life instead of 6, You said he lost 6 life but the total went from 30 to 22, Kambal wasn't in play so why did he lose 2 extra life?
Thankfully after watching the video this didn't have an effect on the end. It looked like he could have died to his own crypt trigger when he should have been at 5 life but he never had to worry about that thanks to Altar of the Brood.
Why does the midnight reaper trigger work? Don’t all creatures die at the same time so the reaper doesn’t have time react? 10:44 ish
Certain triggers, including "dies" and "leaves the battlefield", are checked based on the game state before the triggering event occurs. So it sees all the creatures that die at the same time it does.
No one saw the fact that Joseph didn’t pay for the pact of negation upkeep cost?!
It got countered, so he didn't have to pay. The upkeep cost is not an additional cost, but an effect of the card, so there is no cost if the pact doesn't resolve.
11:50 30 life - 6 damage = 22 life? Oo
That ahegao hoodie
Super minor thing with the commentary but you take damage from mana vault after you draw for turn not before. Really enjoying the content though, gj.
It's CHEW-Lane
You're chew-lane
@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG I've got a lane for you to [Hull] on.
Is Bill seriously wearing *that* sweatshirt?
Did he not pay for Pact of Negation?
Camden Drash Didn’t resolve.
Congrats aminatou player
The first turn he had Aminatou + Felidar he could have made infinite copies of it no? They dont have haste but its still infinite 1/4s
No, they just flicker each other forever. Without anything to double ETBs or benefit off of cards entering the battlefield, nothing happens. Neither card makes token copies, they just flicker the original cards over and over again.
10:27 "-3 ability"
feel like the kambal deck should of the white god nd walking ballista
My baby is queeeen~♡
I LOVE aminatou
Nate never lost the 8 life for paying 6 for toxic deluge and the 2 life while kambal was out.
Joseph killed Nate on turn 9.
I believe that was me, adam, who did the deluge for 6 life. Nate did his for 4 earlier in the game
Damn stax is so fucking boring to watch.
Edit: "the stax was done in a way that kept the game insteresting" LMAO
i find kambal to be interesting, shame he didn't get up and running
Beautiful game! Petition for a minor improvement:
could you pay attention to using accurate rules terms when announcing played cards and abilities?
For example, saying "As" enters for playing Cavern of Souls instead of "When", highlighting that it's a replacement effect instead of a triggered ability (and can't be responded to), or saying "lose life" instead of "take damage" for effects that do exactly that but don't technically deal damage. (Loss if life can't be prevented by preventing damage or trigger effects that require damage to be dealt, to name a couple relevant situations.)
I think consistency with wording could really do work for everyones rules literacy and help with following game actions. It seems a good fit especially cEDH channels like yours because you care so deeply for quality rules-wise.
edit. added an example, changed some writing. language matters :)
I will definitely make this more of a priority moving forward. Thanks for the feedback!

Hello!!
Hi!
2nd again! hi Joseph and the crew!
11:53 you say he loses 6 but he goes from 30 to 22, that's 8.
Let's see a Scarab God deck!!
