      Good morning Steven. It was indeed a bit of a late hour to be putting out a video, but it's good to know that people like yourself are out there and watching! 😊 (for which I'm grateful)
      I hope that beard's recovering anyway, and that you're doing okay across there in East Anglia. Thanks again. 👍

    Hi Martin, all Spain is magnificent in my opinion. Thanks for bringing this. I am hoping my health will allow me todo this next year. I have out the blue ( one consultant appointment) had my licence revoked by dvla a total and utter shock. I now have to pay another Dr to prove I am able to drive, however am awaiting some tests which may prevent me from doing this. I am 65 next week and cannot believe this but trying to remain positive.
    I took my family to the Sierra Nevada ski resort. There is a swimming pool with a sliding roof at the top. What shocked me was we went in the summer and the slopes were full of hikers and mtbs. However there was human excrement everywhere😢left behind by skiers? In the snow.
    40 yrs ago u were lucky to get a shower in the afternoon on holiday in Spain now they have built beautiful dams everywhere. No ruination of scenery and awe inspiring

      Good morning Mick, I'm genuinely sorry to hear about your health woes, and sincerely hope that you're able to get things sorted, and get mobile again - fingers crossed anyway.
      Spain is indeed a magnificent country as I keep discovering, but I'm glad that my travels across there are limited to the out-of-season period. I can only imagine just how busy some of those flesh-pots become, along with the attendant problems the less discerning visitors bring, very much like the north west of Scotland over the last few years. Thanks for watching again anyway Mick, keep me posted. 👍

    Fabulous Martin, a little reminder for me of those amazing rock formations and lovely quiet roads as I rode some of them back in October, really memorable and like yourself I can’t wait to get back and experience more of it

      Hello again Peter and yes, this year's trip can't come around quickly enough to be honest - I've still got a lot of exploring to do out there. Thanks for watching again anyway, and as always your comments are much appreciated. 👍

    Good morning to you Martin. Great breakfast watch. Thank you for bringing this wonderful area into my home. And sunshine too 🌞🌞
    Just had to pop back again here Martin as I was really moved by your enthusiasm as you encountered such marvellous diversity. I have to admit that I too was rather taken aback by this one!! Brilliant.

      Good morning Peter, and thanks for your comments again. It was a bit of a strange one, with my failing to achieve that highest point, but I just wasn't expecting such a degree of diversity. I'm certainly glad that I took the trouble to have a ride across to the Sierra Nevada, and I'm pleased you enjoyed watching it. Thanks again. 👍

      @@martintraffordmoorlandbike7121 You're very accomplished at sharing both your enthusiasm and knowledge in such a way that you make me feel a part of what we're experiencing. A rare gift is that. There are very few folk on UA-cam who manage that. I see we both have around the same number of subscribers at present. My numbers hover around 740 and those that watch both myself and you are very much like minded I think who write very positively about what we each do. Hope you have a great weekend - I've just finished cleaning all that diabolical muck off Spitfire. Never again 🤣🤣

      That's most appreciated Peter, I do enjoy a bit of storytelling, and as I've said before, I like to try my best to put my enthusiasm over (although I have to say that the occasional coach tour to Eastbourne was a tad challenging! 😁)
      Yes, this 740 figure seems to be our 'happy place' just now, I just get a little worried when I lose three or four in one go!
      Now try not to let Spitfire get in that state again!! 😂 👍

    Ah you picked the right way into the outskirts of Granada, well done ! A very scenic route indeed !
    I've done that climb to the Sierra Nevada many times in the car but usually with everything covered in snow. I've been skiing up there about six times in total. I also went up there once in the summer to check out the mountain biking they do up there. You can hire a mountain bike and bomb down the ski runs where they've also added various sizes of jump ramps in suitable locations. Always fancied giving it a go but as the years have passed without me getting around to it, I feel like I'm decidedly too old for that nonsense now. I don't think it would end well 😂
    Yes, I agree. I always thought that you got the best views coming back down that road.
    If I ever go to Granada again on two wheels, I will almost certainly take the same route, if I have the time. In the past I've stuck to the motorway, purely because I was always limited for time, like the day I decided to ride my Meteor there and back PLUS do an awesome travel vlog of Granada itself, all in one day. There was no time for fun that day, I had work to do 😜
    Thanks for sharing Martin, entertaining as always and hopefully more great rides to come in 2024 !
    Garry

    • @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121
      @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121  8 місяців тому

      Hi Garry, I hope you're feeling better now. Yes the route definitely turned out well for me, but it was just another of my 'sqiggly white roads'. I much prefer planning with paper maps than apps, and I think it pays off.
      I've always been into mountain activities, although I avoided skiing as I just knew it was going to cost - big style! Mountain biking though, I got into that big style, and I have to admit that downhill was where it was at. (Reduced to a touring e-bike now though - a bit wiser post 70!)
      So is Buddy's trip into Granada in your back catalogue? I'll have to take a look at it because sooner or later I'm going to have to do a bit of city work.
      Stay safe anyway Garry, and regards to Ruby. 😊

    Great video again Martin, you have beaten me on this one! despite living only an hour hour away from there for over 10 years I did not manage to get the time to ride that road! incidently, Jaén is pronounced high-en an unsual one. The road from Jaén to Madrid is one of the most boring straight roads I have ever ridden, hopefully you found an alternative route north?.

    • @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121
      @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121  8 місяців тому

      Hi Oly, so that's one-up to me then! 😊 (although the tpo on the top section is a bit of a disappointment)
      Yes, the accent over the e in Jaén gives enough of a clue!
      You're absolutely right about the road via Madrid, but I was sort of committed to it due to my next objective, plus I was fast running out of time before heading back through France again. Sadly this was the last decent video before microphone woes raised their ugly head.
      Thanks for watching again anyway. Cheers. 👍

    In effect, you got to the highest `motorable road` - (like kardung-la was before umling-la opened)

    Fabulous - but if you are stopped at around 2500m the Col de l'Iseran at 2770 is still highest passable road?

    • @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121
      @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121  8 місяців тому

      Hi, yes you're quite right of course, but I did try to explain in my introduction how I'd misread the information about Pico Veleta. The road is indeed metalled to a greater height, but currently motorised traffic is prohibited beyond the point I reached. It was obviously a disappointment to me, but I personally think it was worth the ride. Thanks for watching anyway, and for your comments. Cheers 👍

    Without the ski development would there be such a well maintained road?

    • @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121
      @martintraffordmoorlandbike7121  8 місяців тому +1

      Hi David, no I think it's a fortunate trade-off in many ways, very much like the approach through Andorra to the start of The Smugglers Trail. In fact, I wonder if some roads would exist at all, if it wasn't for commercial interests other than our own. Doesn't stop them being a blot on the horizon though. An effective comparison might be the Stelvio Pass compared to it's lesser known neighbour, the Gavia Pass, and I know which I'd rather ride - give me a single-track every time. Cheers. 👍
