Steven A. Ballmer is chief executive officer of Microsoft Corporation, the world's leading manufacturer of software for personal and business computing. While in college, Ballmer managed the football team, worked on the Harvard Crimson newspaper as well as the university literary magazine, and lived down the hall from fellow sophomore Bill Gates. After college, he worked for two years at Procter & Gamble Co. as an assistant product manager and, before joining Microsoft, attended Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Microsoft basically had to eat the cost of re-engineering the hardware, and more or less form an entire division that handled replacing all customers faulty gen 1 consoles.
I think it was around 1 or 2 billion dollars.

Hard to believe, but some of Microsoft's glory days, Windows XP, 7, Xbox 360, Microsoft Surface... they were all created under his leadership. Then again, so was Vista, 8, and the Xbox One 2013 restrictions.

It was in terms of full dual channel memory and full 64 bit OS that could use DX 10 which Xp 64 bit could not.
Funny enough coming back to this on the Xbox comments I actually agree with SOME of Mattrick's XB1 vision. I actually prefered the DRM policies since then discs essentially gave full digital benefits, however, I still the online check-in rules were stupid. I also was not a fan of mandatory Kinect.
However, all of this was slightly too restrictive for its time and being higher priced than the PS4 was its early downfall (again, mainly the Kinect bringing the price up).
