It would be interesting to have you diagram on your telestrator the different terms you use. A visual that shows exactly what you are referring to. Eg seam route, post, smash, jet, wheel, mike, etc.... I find this all very fascinating.
I've heard multiple meaning for cover 6 either a weak rotation cover 3, Quarter Quarter Half, and 3 Deep 3 under. I think it Tubby Raymond once said he wished all the coaches around the world would get together and come up with a common place word choice so we could all speak the same language... I cant even tell you how many times I've been talking to a coach thinking we are on the same page about something only to find out they are talking about something completely different than I was or vis-versa.
I heard cover 6 basically a weakside rotation of cover 3 but i could understand it being more quarters coverage if theres a vertical threat vs the flat defender under 1/2 field safety. Good breakdown on how the hashes & WR splits fit into consideration for zones.
Hey JT, love the channel, thank you so much for taking the time to break all this down for us fans. I have learned so much. I have a few questions... 1. What does a QB coach actually do day to day and during the game? 2. Have you ever considered being a commentator on TV? You'd be great, I'd love to see you and Romo do a game together. 3. First play of the game, you're at the line, the play is the drive play you broke down a while back. How does single high, cover two, man, zone, or the defense showing an all out blitz change the way you run the play? Go Saints!
I like to run the smash concept paired with double posts on the back side against cover 2. I’ve no where the understanding of the game you have but I like #1 keeping his post skinny and read the safety. Small school Montana high school double post can be tough to cover
Totally agree. I've played for OC's that liked Smash versus Cover 2, but that was also 25 years ago. It was never my favorite. If I'm facing Cover 2, there are so many better options than Smash. Why put your QB in a situation of facing a muddied look? Make it easy for him.
Hey JT I love your pod cash here learning some of these Concepts the way you explain them has made me appreciably better when I play Madden I used to struggle to ever have my quarterbacks up in the upper echelon in terms of passing and touchdowns I just had two back-to-back Seasons where I'm pushing 5000 yards and 40 or more passing touchdowns which I never thought I would ever be able to do. anyhow my question is this, when you think of the running game and all the different types of play there's there's power and there's outside zone or sometimes called stretch there's dive place and inside zones and toss place for the most part and also traps and counters when is the running game plan is decided did the types of plays get called in to be called to try to exploit a weakness in the opposing defensive front seven or to keep them off balance so they can't just protect for one thing and secondly does self scouting sometimes result in running similar formations that look like certain run plays that should that are actually being called as pass plays in order to catch the defense in a run support mode rather than coverage?
@Austin McCanless. footballxos.com/free-football-playbooks/offense-playbooks/college-playbooks/ You should download some of the playbooks and check for your self if I was to rank them considering that the air raid is basically the wco from the shotgun with wrs instead of backs and tights and the true run n shoot is just about one passing scheme I would swap them. The option is more or less as complex as your qb can handle. Navy's flexbone is basically run n shoot under center (sub slot receivers for wingback) while airforce runs the same veer I ran in highschool
J.T., I just found your channel and love it! Can you do a video on variances in formations? What I mean is this...there are literally thousands of possible legal formations without even getting into exotic formations like moving the tackles out wide, single wing, and “wildcat.” Sock here are my specific questions. 1. How many different formations would a typical NFL playbook have? 2. When using multiple receive sets, does it matter which receive is on the line and which is off? For instance, in a twins set, does it make a huge difference if the slot receiver is on or off the LOS? Ditto in some variation of trips..does it make a difference in the call which of the three receivers is on the LOS and which two are off? 3. Is there a methodology to naming formations, or is it simply memorizing terms? This relates to my first question...there are thousands of potential formations, and no one can memorize that much, so either teams don’t use all those formations, or they have a method for calling specific formations. Thanks, again, I love the channel.
Love your videos. Can you explain how pre-snap reads are implemented and what options a QB is given to check in to? I know that it will vary based on the offense and the opponent probably but any sort of insight you can give would be awesome. Thanks!
Could you use the diagrams for these videos? I don't know much about football plays, formations, coverages, routes, etc. so some of this stuff is flying way over my head.
Imma kill everyone in madden now! Lmao Forreal tho awesome content/information you keep putting out. Have you thought about doing a weekly podcast for a hour or so breaking down the weekly games and/or who you like in upcoming games? Unless I'm late to the party and you already have that going on, and i dont know about it lol keep it up man!
When do defenses generally play one high and two high safeties? Does it depend on down and distance, or formations, or a little bit of both? Great videos appreciate all the hard work!
Have a feeling both these questions were based on madden haha. Smash isn’t a good concept in real life. Because corners can’t stick really well But in madden it’s like unstoppable Also cover 6 is in the zone defense guide in the game
Have you ever thought about going to different countries to teach? I live in New Zealand and there are heaps of people who love to play here and home grown contact leagues with tons of players who would love guidance.

Yes, Diagrams PLEASE!
We all know it by cover 6 because madden calls it that lol
Thank god your channel exists. You're the best! Much love from Bulgaria!
I absolutely love these Q and A videos. More please.
Would love to see how QB adjust their throws in windy game, like the one last night. Appreciate this.
Another solid clip. Thanks JT, your channel is crushing it! 🤘🏻
2 + 4 = 6, just jargon in Madden lol

Hey Jt, great video! Can you talk about proper upper body throwing mechanics? Front arm and throwing arm mechanics
Really love this channel. Great football insight!
I heard cover 6 basically a weakside rotation of cover 3 but i could understand it being more quarters coverage if theres a vertical threat vs the flat defender under 1/2 field safety. Good breakdown on how the hashes & WR splits fit into consideration for zones.
Thanks for the answer about the cover 6 answer. I believe I asked you that question also. Keep up the great content JT

Would love to see a series of QB progressions on air raid passing concepts. Cross, mesh etc.. thanks this channel is great!!!

I remember you from like madden 05 I think. Lol great content cool to hear this info from an actual NFL qb.
I remember that, too.
@@TheQBSchool woooah cool.

Can you grade types of offenses from easiest to hardest for a qb? Thx
@Austin McCanless.

JT your Wikipedia page says one year you wore the jersey number 0. Can you tell us whether that’s true and how it came to be?
More teaching videos like this please!
Could you use the diagrams for these videos? I don't know much about football plays, formations, coverages, routes, etc. so some of this stuff is flying way over my head.
Cover 6 is great if you play a combo coverage (one man coverage in zone call)...
The Jags play it for the last few years very successfully!
Imma kill everyone in madden now! Lmao

I would love to see an in depth explanation of the shallow cross concept with examples from different offenses, as in the drive video.
Especially now this is pertinent with the Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVay and Matt LeFleur offenses
When do defenses generally play one high and two high safeties? Does it depend on down and distance, or formations, or a little bit of both?
Great videos appreciate all the hard work!
Not football related, but what do you use for a microphone, and what camera? Loving the sound, and the effect of the camera
I always thought cover 6 was a safety blitz
How much does over vs under front 7 affect a QBs pre-snap read in the run game or need to audible to a pass?
Can you explain pattern match coverage?
great question
I'd like to see JT's take on it as well because coach saban taught it as an extention of his zone philosophy.
Have a feeling both these questions were based on madden haha. Smash isn’t a good concept in real life. Because corners can’t stick really well But in madden it’s like unstoppable
Also cover 6 is in the zone defense guide in the game
Does anyone adjust their traditional Smash to a Flag-Flat when they see Cover 2? Great Channel by the way!! Keep it up!!
We do with condensed splits. Based solely off coverage? Not us.
What are your favorite concepts out of bunch formations?
Spot Gift. Spot Corne Flat. Backside Gift (Out, Go or Out and Up) depends on the CB line up
Can you explain cloud and sky coverages
Hey, Big Fan! Can you talk more about Bill Belichick's defensive scheme as far as how creative he can be.
Could you break down how a 53 man roster is typically split up e.g. how many wrs how many cbs please
If not cover 2, what type of coverage does smash beat?
Have you ever thought about going to different countries to teach? I live in New Zealand and there are heaps of people who love to play here and home grown contact leagues with tons of players who would love guidance.
Hey JT will you feather me?
Never had my name read in a video before was kinda lit not gunna lie
Get a whiteboard.. or something electronic to draw on! Thanks
Lol.
Isnt Cover 2 basically the "I'm ok conceding 8 yards but I'm really not ok conceding 25yds"
Hans Oskar that sounds like prevent.
