    After helping with a music studio, this is perfect solution to the issue. We used some statically placed composite tiles that deadened the sound and shag carpet back then on the doors. At that time we could turn around with a guy and monitors behind us and in a normal voice… could barly hear the guy speak when your back were to you.
    Tech has come a long way so good to go there. Good to see these videos of the back end. :-)

When you have properly acoustically treated space, the music becomes 3D, it's almost like you could touch the instruments and see the musicians.

    I don't know if you have proper ventilation in your room and if seals would prohibit that but the way I built my bathroom was with a door with seals and the seals are key in keeping the washer spin cycle completely in audible to the rest of the apartment. It is a fire rated door so it has insulation inside.

    Your man cave is next level. Add weatherstripping to both doors if you haven't already. It's not just mass that's important, air gaps contribute to leaking sound waves into your controlled space. You will notice a difference and the time, effort, and cost is minimal. Make sure your room is properly ventilated.

    Do you have any problems with airflow in a sealed room like this? I'm asking because I read that they install air conditioning systems in recording studios for that reason.

    • @chriskelvin248
      @chriskelvin248 3 роки тому +4

      4 years ago I helped my brother install a "soundproof room" in the basement of his condo. He's a drummer, so serious crash and bang needed to be isolated from the rest of the house as well as from the neighbors .He even got a consultation from a real acoustic engineer. Learning about the nuts and bolts of this was fascinating- even as someone with decades in construction.
      Like Noob described, these things are a "room within a room". The raw basement was concrete foundation walls and floor, 2x10 ceiling joists to the 1st floor above. We suspended the new double 5/8" acoustic drywall with green goo between the layers from special rubber-insulated hangers. Even the recessed ceiling lights were within special sound-deadening boxes. The walls got a similar treatment. The walls were slightly elevated above the raw concrete to further prevent sonic transmission. Ceiling and floor were insulated with mineral wool insulation. The floor got some fancy acoustic mat with thick carpet over that.
      One of the two cruxes of the project were one- the entry door, which Noob had challenges with as well. The solution from the start was to install a solid core gasketted door with a fancy threshold gasket that lowers and seals to the sill when the door is just closing and vice versa. There are two doors, one in front of the other- like Noob's. The "interior" partition walls (including the entry door wall) were even double walls- not physically connected to each other.
      The second crux concerned what you asked about, Julien Tesor: ventilation. So my brother's house has forced-air heating and cooling which means metal air ducts throughout the house which is a super-highway for noise transmission. This room was hooked up to the duct system to make it comfortable. Otherwise a sealed room with sound equipment, lights and body heat would make it unbearable quickly. The solution was installing a special 8' long fancy duct section that I would describe as a gigantic car muffler. Nothing escapes it into the house ducts.
      The end result after a couple months of work is simply staggering. I stand in the room with my brother drumming away and my ears are ringing, chest thumping. I walk outside and close the first door and the sound is almost nothing. I close the second door and any trace of sound from within 100% vanishes. No high-frequency snare hits. No deep, low-frequency kick drum hits. These techniques and materials- when applied with a rigorous attention to detail truly work miracles. But even just sealing the air in a room quiets things down surprisingly well. Like Noob said- pure min/ maxxing is chasing elusive final percents of sound. But it it is achievable.

    Your recording studio is nice and well designed with absorption and dispersion and isolation, but it is not an anechoic room. You may heard that term thrown around, but 'it does not mean what I think you think it means' to quote The Princess Bride. As for the door, you really should have just started out with solid core, good seals, and, this is often overlooked, different hardware. From an acoustic isolation standpoint a standard doorknob is not much better than a hole.

    Just a simple question and a simple comment:
    Why is the switch of your microphone on the hypercardioic position ? (i may have not seen well)
    Its common to feel a little anxious in anechoic chambers. In sound laboratories it's even forbidden to enter alone in such places. So what you felt is perfectly normal. With time you will be accustomed and feel better.
    Anyway it's nice.

    • @NOOBIFIER1337
      @NOOBIFIER1337  3 роки тому +1

      The microphone performs very well in the cardioid setting, I suppose if I wanted to test I could go more generalized however because my voice is coming from one location I just figured it made the most sense. As far as being a custom in such a quiet room, I think it’s fairly obvious that the longer you spend in one or the more costume you are dealing with one less likely it will affect you negatively
