2:48 FWIW modifying the camera does NOT void warranty on the US. FTC made clear a few years ago that the "void warranty if removed" stickers are illegal, and also clarified that warranties can ONLY be voided if modifications made were the cause of the problem. It's like cars. They can't void tour warranty if you change your tires so why can a camera company void your warranty for changing whatever? They can't. Unless the thing you did actually breaks the camera. TLDR: you can take a camera apart completely and put it together mildly differently but if it still works, they have to honor the warranty
one thing to note is that android phones don't work wired on vtube studio like, at all. you'll need to use the wifi option and if you've got less than stellar wifi like i do... its kinda really laggy.
Thank you very much for your insight..i will stop my urge to buy a webcam and just use my phone until I earned more money since I spend a lots already to custom my current pc
I gotta be honest, whenever I hear someone say "phones are best for tracking," I kinda just assume they've never tried an android for tracking lol. I can't even find a single example of vtube studio tracking with an android phone! nobody talks about it except SOMETIMES for 3D avatars! It's ALWAYS iPhone. I can't imagine that android tracking could be much better than any other webcam since it doesn't have depth detection.
@@jedidiahmessina4493 from what I've been able to find, tracking with any android phone is the same as webcam tracking, meaning they all just go off of the flat image. I've been able to get plenty decent tracking with a webcam, but thats _despite_ the lack of true depth from ios. having that would _still_ result in better tracking.
4:24 it's a shame this was uploaded early October 2022 instead of November lol. Late October they added RTX tracking which VTS themselves say is almost as good as iphone tracking. IIRC they even said it has potential to be better. And in 2023 they added Google MediaPipe tracking which they do say is almost as good as iphone and definitely can become better someday. Good time to make an updated video
3:34 What if I wanted to do it anyways? What kind of processor do you recommend? Because I'm looking at a 12 core i7 rn and I feel like I'm gonna need those 12 cores to do all things I'm planning on doing with my computer.
Don't buy a one hundred ($100) camera, buy a one thousand ($1000) phone, then add (and pay for) more software layers (as you'll need something to create a bridge between that iPaperweight and a pc).... Use mediapipe with a powerful enough processor. Or NV Broadcast with an RTX videocard. A Logi C920 with almost no-light is able to properly track a face without issues using them. You will lose tongue tracking, yes (for now), you will save thousands. Hand tracking is the one that suffers the most from lack of light, but it only works with webcam so.... // Time to update this video :)
ive been through quite a few videos regrading this topic and no one ever discusses that you have to pay for vtube studio pro for you to have full access or your just let with 5 mintues of face tracking unless it was free a year ago but anyway i love the video you did a great job
So what model iphone would be decent enough ? I know you need one with an A12 Chip i think? I don't own a iphone so I don't know much about this, I cannot afford anything too expensive either.
I can afford a webcam for like 100 dollars but Idk If I can afford the brand new PC I'm saving up for, also 2 monitors, the gaming table And an iPhone on top of that. I'm thinking of going team webcam but I know Iphone is better at face tracking and it's more secure so u don't like reveal your identitet idk What do u think does webcam work ok? I also wear glasses btw😭😭 but the glasses are like thin round u know kinda harry potter style lol so maybe it will work fine with a webcam Idk Also I use a Samsung S20 I tested the face tracking it was AWFUL So I might have to buy a new iphone Idk
So lets say you have a beefy PC, would a DSLR be good? I have a Rebel T7i and have used it in the past for streaming but that was for live cam, not VTubing. So I am looking at all available options before I buy an iPhone as I already have an android but hear iphone is much better for it because of faceid.
It does quite a bit but also lighting quality and whether the phone itself has good domestic face tracking software (stuff like Lidar Scanning for recent Apple phones). Any iPhone in the last few years should be plenty powerful, just keep your lights on and you're good to go!
This is an old video but just wondering, when using Vtube studio with my phone I get prompted to buy vtube studio pro and it says that if I don’t then every 5 mins I’ll have to reconnect. Is that the same for everyone else?
@@Kougeru A lot of it is proprietary, so being suspicious of it is warranted. However, there is a promising free and open source solution, inochi2d. it has both a rigging/tracking part, and a design part.

Great video, very helpful, glad that you don't need a super expensive camera setup.

Fine you got me. Ill upvote

I use my Samsung Galaxy S10, and I've had no issues with depth tracking and the like

Omg same!!! It's so annoying :!
For Android what software do use for tracking? Vtuber studio or something else?
@@jedidiahmessina4493 I have a Samsung Galaxy Ultra it's good to hear someone mentioning something other than iphone.
Apple spent a lot of time and money on getting good face tracking on their phones, might as well use it to your advantage
5:25 my phone (iPhone) says Status: Invalid IP... even when I try to find the Server again edit: ok now it worked... after I commented about it

so i would need to buy the vtube studio app as well
I think yes because on mine it said it would only stay connected for 5 minutes unless I bought pro.

i didn't skip :D
I assume the front facing camera is better as well. Which iphone is best?
rip caught me skipping
I have an android. I don't have an iphone. I also have an ipad but I don't think it gets updates anymore.
what should i use if i dont have a phone that works? vtube studio wont recognize my iphone no matter what i do

Phone is also the most expensive option tho 😅 plus might break it because it's definitely going to overheat after like 10-20 minutes

In the same boat where i have a t6i and already stream with it but i can't figure out how to connect it to vtube studio
Does camera quality of a phone affect the tracking quality?

Me too
should've watched this before selling the cat - just kidding x3

I personally don't trust VTuber software
Lol what?

Is ipad pro can do tracking smoothly as iphone? I need to buy ipad pro for drawing, so i can't sacrifice ipad to buy iphone just for the camera 🥲
Oh, My webcam broke few weeks ago. I guess the old DSLR webcam that I got as a hand-me-down is my last resort 🥲
