LOVE this! Very informative. Meditation is something that does not come easily to me and you explained it in a way I can wrap my head around. I related when you said you used to give up when your mind wandered....my mind wanders every time so I never get anywhere. I'm going to be more forgiving on myself and try out some of your tips :)

I’m mixed asian and grew up Christian so praying was a huge thing but never connected until I prayed to G-D directly. The Christian “ religion “ itself isn’t a direct path but Kabbalah teaches about the fastest way to ascend mentally and spiritually . I follow selflessness and detachment from materialism through the teachings of Jesus who was obviously Jewish. But I’ve found great enlightenment through meditation, Zohar and the understanding that through meditation, one has to peel the layers in order to find ones real essence . Once unlocked , meditation happens within , anytime, any place .

My Jewish Mommy Life, I'm not a visual person, so I've found that focusing on my breath is helpful. I like the idea of meditating on established prayers, though and will have to give that a try. I like the Insight Timer app, but it sounds as though you already have a fantastic built in way for determining when you are finished.

I agree that a Jew has a tougher time connecting with Eastern based mediation. As they should. It is actually considered anti g-d (the Jewish one) if you follow in a practice that mentions Buddhist gods. It really is not ok according to halacha. I am not the Jewish police but that is the reality. thank you for posting this. I was just watching a Kundali yoga and I started hearing words like divine and divine presence and I had to come here instead.

This is such a great perspective! I was hesitant to meditate at first because of the dogma that since meditation comes from eastern mysticism religions, that all meditation is bad. But I started questioning, if all meditation is bad, then why did the Creator give us different brain wave states in which we go back and forth through naturally? And why did He tell us int he Torah to meditate on certain things? And why give us an imagination, an ability to visualize something (like a goal), if He did not want us to actually use it? It is easier to imprint those things on the subconscious when we are in theta state (a state we may enter during meditation). It's just brain science! That's when I started throwing my religious traditions out the door and seeking truth. Since then, I have had the most profound spiritual experiences (probably in gamma state), and my household has been able to get debt free, my husband and I started a business together, and I feel more connected with my children more than ever. I am pursuing my dreams. It has built confidence and made me feel even more connected to G-d. Like I am now actually pursuing the destiny He has for me. I actually am coming to the conclusion that using the mind and spirit in this way is the key of David spoken of by the prophet (Isaiah 22:2).

Im a Jew .. well part Jew .. but I wasn't raised that way and was born in this Babylon they call USA and I'm trying to get to where I feel home .. so I mean if you would be interested in helping me learn how to speak Hebrew I would love it .. I speak some but it's basic stuff such as Ani ohev otach
    Y'varekhekha Adonai v'yishmerekha
    Ya'er Adonai panav eleikha vichunekha
Yissa Adonai panav eleikha v'yasem l'kha shalom
Shema Yisrael Adonai Elohenu Adonai echad
Baruch shem kavod malchuto l’olam va ed
But I want to learn so much more and of course you already know I found your video cause I'm trying to learn to meditate
The Torah has always been dear to my heart and I never knew why untill one day my grandmother was passing away and told me I am a Jew .. then I tried to search family records but guess what.. my family didn't keep records . They was afraid when they came here so they tried to hide the jewishnes and just pretend we wasn't Jews but I'm afraid not to be a Jew
Sorry this is so long .. but if you could help

you're a mother ? you look so young to be a mother !!!
I had a very scary experience when I meditated back in the 70s. it scared me so bad that I didn't try to meditate again up until recently. Now I am getting desparate to find GOD inside me so am going to give it another try and hopefully THE LORD is with me in this. I need to find HIM now.
Have you had any exciting or scary experiences with meditation ? have you considered fasting and meditating ?
    Shalom, my Jewish sister.

We are told to meditate on the word of God according to The Tanach - Joshua 1:8. I also got into yoga which means yoked change part of the Hindu religion. I found myself getting involved in other spiritual areas where I don't think I should be. I certainly became extreme and it made me ill. There is another spiritual beside this one. - Good and bad - think what King Saul got into! Ask HaShem!
