Chris: "I wish the colors were a bit more vibrant."
Eggers: "Lmao bet"
lol makes a black and white movie, which Chris ironically enjoyed more
The dumbest take! The colors were perfect

Narcos is scarier, all that drug trade and dead bodies, damn, not even the witch.

This movie was SO SMART. Historically on-point all the way. If you were Puritan, this movie is your worst nightmare. Too many movies nowadays ask their audience to turn off their brain. And yes, everything Chris said, too, but I applaud the dedication to authenticity.
This is what I loved about it so much! It was a seriously disturbing horror but also so authentic and a haunting period piece supernatural drama. Most horror movies do not put this much thought into its accuracy and script. The dialogue was so enthralling and I completely forget this is happening now and believe I'm watching puritans go through this.
Great stuff
Yep
Man I wish more horror movies were made like this.
Leisha Suarez no. There are better jump scare movies is all.
Leisha Suarez give me some and I'll judge.
Bjorn Ironside BABADOOK!
It's been a long time since I seen a good horror movie and The VVitch gave me a fresh of breath air. .The movie made me think about the characters long after the credits were done. Now that's getting your money's worth. Better than 2017 IT IMO
Braden rich, like I said IMO. 2017 IT was good but the 90s version did some important things for the story better.
"Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?"
What will you from me?
hell yeah African American Philip
Yes daddy 😋
"I cannot write my name."
"I will guide your hand."
Sounds sexy
I watched this yesterday. I was shocked about 20-25 minutes into the movie by the graphic imagery. I haven't felt that kind of uneasiness since watching the exorcist. I really felt like this a true horror film. For me it's a 10/10
Yes you're right it's absolutely a 10/10. One of the best scary movies ever made.
If you want to feel uneasiness, watch ‘Mother!’
“I wish the colours were a little more vibrant”
Midsommar: Allow me to introduce myself
Never watching that movies again. I don’t know why I can watch this plenty of times but never Midsommar...maybe because the characters were making blatantly bad choices in that film which irked me to no end. This one makes more sense because the characters felt more natural.
I agree, doesnt feel as real as this one, or hereditary
@@VantaVoid7 Midsommar was "more show - no go" for me too. It wasn't Hereditary level. That was genius movie making

@Blowing winds 🍃 It's arguable.
This movie was just what I wanted! I laughed when all the paranormal activity fans, who are there just for jumpscares, started complaining at the end. definitely cant wait to buy this one on blue ray
The Witch is a very unique horror that questions me why the general audience doesn't like it. Would they rather have a cheap found footage movie with clichéd exorcism scenes and jump scares? This movie relied more on mood, atmosphere, imagery, character, drama and tension.
Spot on! Such a pleasant surprise to have a movie like this come around.
+Connor Morley I get what you are saying. It would have been more accepted if it had some actual scares besides a few at the end. As it stands it's not really a horror film and pple are pissed at they were miss lead. I saw it last night with a packed theatre and everyone was booing at the end.
+Stephen Bennett Here's the problem with modern horror films. In this day and age, everyone thinks horror movies are filled with jump scares and gore. And while The Witch did get slow in some scenes, the character drama and moody imagery will keep some people intrigued. The scariest parts of the movie were the family going through turmoil. Each scene with them feels very claustrophobic even though it's set in a wide open space. It reminds me of The Shining. The witch herself was hard to look at too. If you're studying film at college, you'll probably be interested in this movie. But if you're one of the general audience that's looking for a movie with jump scares, then you'll be very disappointed.
Connor Morley 100% agree. I went for some scares so I was disappointed in that aspect. But I respect the movie for what it was and what it was trying to say and do. Just wish I had a better idea of what I was going to see so I wasn't let down. Its like going to see the Shining but knowing nothing about Stanley K or his films.
BAA BAA, BLACK PHILLIP BLACK PHILLIP
those twins were creepy af. They always stayed together and did some scary shit.
When they were on the leash tied to that pole, they were really creepy.
Where were they though? Didn't see them at the end.
What dost thou want?
What doust want?
The director wanted the lighting as natural as possible to give the audience the feel of really being in that time period.
Yes because light behaved differently back then.
If you mean not having stage lights and keeping it just to natural light and candle light, then yeah
@@blake_229I live in new england, and its never this bleak for an entire stretch of time that this movie encompassed,...so, no its not portraying reality at all.
Even in the dead of winter the sun is shining.
People do not get the fact that this is an actual greek tragedy in terms of structure, the family is doomed because of the fathers hamartia, his hubris, in the same way Oedipus family was doomed.
Pretty interesting analysis here man. I really think this film is an instant classic.
Stefano Piroddi I know this comment is old as heck almost any story can be broken down to the Greek tragedy! Good eye for picking up on that.. Great movie great review🖤⚰️
Oedipus's family was doomed because his father was incompetent.
What does hubris and hamartia mean? I love greek leyends, and loved the film, but English is my second language so I don't understand all the words, thank you

Just saw this movie. I can't sleep now. It's so depressive and haunting.
And not a single cheap jump scare.
Yes yes yes!! You are right to love this movie. It was bone chilling.
bro, that fucking black phillip scene jump scared me two times
A horror movie that doesn't suck? There are only like ten of those in existence.
+waterblonk exactly
+waterblonk Nah there's LOTS of great indie horror out there. You just have to dig a little bit to find them.
At the rate we're going, we might have 20 by 2020 (Babadook, It Follows, Witch, 3 years in a row of good stuff)
Alien, The Exorcist, 2015's It Follows, The Descent, The Sixth Sense (maybe it's a thriller), Halloween, Eraserhead, Rosemary's Baby, Psycho, Jaws, Cabin in the Woods, Evil Dead Trilogy, Texas Chainsaw, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Thing, Carrie, 28 Days Later, The Conjuring, The Audition, The Haunting, Poltergeist, The Ring, Hellraiser, The Omen, Silence of the Lambs, Scream, and one of my favorite movies of all time The Shining!
There's about twenty five for ya!!
+Daniel Mashanic All good except for The Descent. I just don't get the appeal on that one.
As soon as Chris said 1600's it suddenly dawned on me that I haven't ever seen any film based on the Roanoke colony. I'd imagine that it would make a pretty good mystery / horror film.
Does anyone know whether there has been one based on it already?
No but there were great Supernatural episodes based on it especially Croatoan
Ahh yes that whole arc provided some great entertainment.
It frustrates me that I forget so many Supernatural episodes until they are mentioned again lol. In my defence, there are a LOT of episodes!
+Harvey “Dizzy” K very true, and I wish they had done more with it, like it almost feels like a bit of a loose end, but they were pretty damn great
The crucible it's similar in a way
I think the second episode of sleepy hollow on fox had the ghosts of the colony if I remember correctly
This is the only horror film that is scarier the second time you watch it. I can't say that about any other horror film.
Why is it scarier the second time around ?
SleepingDog because I was able to focus more on the creepy dark themes vs the overall story
I am too creeped out to watch this a second time
Not as scarier as what khuminids do to children in their neibourhood in the name of thugs like hezboll----..
Hereditary for me
As soon as the credits started rolling, the guy next to me grunted "Well that was shit" and then as we were walking out of the theatre he then said "It has nothing on Annabelle, that shit was scary as fuck"
That just confirmed what I already knew. That it's a horror film for people that haven't been fooled by modern, cash hungry production companies into thinking that jump scares and surprising loud noises result in a film being "scary as fuck"
The acting and direction were great, cinematography was chilling and claustraphobic, and the score was perfect
That must've been annoying having to hear that guy breathe through his mouth the whole movie.

Film was brilliant. Fucked up beyond all recognition. The witch fucking killing a baby then mashing it up to make a flying ointment was one of the most fucked up things I've ever seen in a movie. The cinematography was the best I've seen this year so far. The candlelight lighting was hard to take my eyes off. The ending is perverse but it's brilliant and daring for a filmmaker to go there. I think it's an A take the minus away.
I just finished it (finally) and couldn't agree more regarding the murder of the baby. Not to mention it was in the first ten minutes of the movie. I really enjoyed it but I think I need to watch it a second time to fully appreciate it. So, was the goat/man in black supposed to be Lucifer?
+07foxmulder I just finished watching as well and I fucking loved it. Really scared the shit out of me, especially in the final 30 minutes. And yes, I do believe the goat/man was the devil.
+Johnny Sobczak I didn't scare me but it left a lasting impression. I can't stop thinking about. It was definitely a creepy and unsettling movie. I'm looking forward to this directors career.
+07foxmulder yes it was. They explain that when she's saying the kids are possessed.
+Tyler Jacobson I remember something being mentioned about it. But my dog was being a dick the entire time I was watching it so I was constantly distracted.

The Village is a great movie but is a 'drama-suspense'. But it was erroneously anmounced as an horror movie. That was the biggest issue with that. Both movies look similar but are totally different..
I couldn't understand ~75% of the dialogue. Pretty frustrating when you're wishing for subtitles, but they're speaking your language.
I had to look for the script on the internet and I was rather listening to the movie while reading along than actually watching it.
nicodimus2222 I have the Blu Ray and the subtitles were fine and even then it's not that hard to understand if you know any "old English" but yea I get where you're coming from
All of you telling me to watch it with subtitles...I watched it in a theater. Not possible.
nicodimus2222 You could always buy it on the Blu-Ray and watch it again with subtitles.
Only problem with that plan is that I don't buy blu-rays to movies I don't like.

If you don't like psychological, philosophical, and religious subtext this movie isn't for you. There were so many layers. I wish more movies were made with this much substance. Don't take it all at surface level. Think about how the characters are actually being effected. Think about what it was like to live in that time. I'm really surprised by some of the comments on here. This movie will always be a classic to me. I have no complaints about it.
What do you guys wish it was like, The Conjuring? I thought that movie was great too. What movies do you hope this one was more like? Oculus I loved. Babadook was pretty damn good because similar to The Witch it was more about real human emotion. It Follows for me was interesting but I was very mixed on it overall.

I’m not the biggest horror fan. But I love this type of horror. It just keeps you in an unsettling and tense place the whole runtime with no cheap jump scares. The horror doesn’t ever hinder the story or character arcs. A great psychological horror drama.
I never felt the slowness of this film. Loved it all the way up until a couple people float, I won't say more than that about it. Great movie. And that G.O.A.T. horror mascot of the decade.

I know exactly the scene you're referring to in regards to the son. I saw the film twice, and I still can't believe they got that kind of performance, with all the nuances and implications, out of an actor who can't be much older than 13. Incredible acting all around. I'm normally very critical of films, even ones I like, but this one didn't put a single foot wrong.
I just watched it on Netflix and couldn't agree more with your review. I was surprised how much I got into the family, and that made it so much more intense when...

@@momsspaghetti726 just cause it dosent have cliche predictable jumpscares with a stupid plot and bad acting dosent mean it’s not horror
This movie has become one of my annual Halloween favorites, along with the likes of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist. It's one of those movies that rewards repeated viewings with new insights and details. And I loved the color palette, it IS dour and it's supposed to be. :)
I saw an early release with the director, Robert Eggers. Brilliant use of low-light environments! At times, the scene is lit by a sole candle. He was able to accomplish this because he used RED cameras with older lenses. The camera settings had to be settled and the lighting was adjusted for each scene. Robert was a set dresser for years. Which informs the period-correct hand-made dresses and shirts. Also, the location for the farm. A friend of mine, also a horror film buff, asked Eggers about the excellent score. Robert answered that the original cut had only a minimal score, the score was enhanced and vocals (chorus) were added only during the final edit of the movie. Serendipitous selections, indeed!
The experience of going to this movie was a Love-Hate thing for me. While I really enjoyed the film, thought that this was one of the best horror movies ever created, I really hated the theater experience. It felt like watching a movie with a bunch of toddlers, how the audience was dumb is beyond description. It made me feel sad for humanity.
That's the same experience I had. But then again it was never made for them. It won't work for everyone.
Matheus Storpirtis It's depressing how many people fail to recognise an excellent movie when it's right before their eyes. Knowing that some even laughed at certain scenes is almost worse.
This was genuine horror and not the stale, repetitive rubbish that dares to call itself 'horror' we get now. Every scene was beautifully shot, it was disturbing and unsettling, it was eerie and of course all the performances were superb!
I fortunately waited until this cams out on DVD and watched it with my brother so I didn't experience the audience you got in the cinema. An amazing and chilling experience!
I completely agree. Several people walked out in the middle of it when I saw it. When it was almost over where she speaks with the Devil more people walked out. Wouldnt even wait 5 more minutes to see how it ended! It made my experience in the theater pretty sour. Bought it on blu ray as soon as it came out and loved it so much more
Self righteous fuck
Yeah, I watched at home and glad I did.
This movie was creepy, man. I just wish they showed more in the ending
@Kila ishere those witches, when not old, we’re all sexy and fine bodies! The hell are you going on about?
I really wanted to like this movie and it just didn't do anything for me. I like dialogue heavy movies but this was just not that great
Chris, I actually loved the muted colour palette because when blood does show up, it's redness really pops. I don't think I've been as aware of blood letting as I was in this film - it's usually something we see so often we take it for granted. The desaturated colour scheme went a long way towards building that.
Chris, I love your reviews! Even in cases like this when I see a movie months/years later I always come to hear what you have to say about it. Whether I agree with you or not, I always learn something or think about something in a way I may not have. You do a great service to enjoying movies more which is impossible to measure. Thank you. A+
All these people calling it boring and not scary piss me off. This is a brilliant film with extremely creepy elements and macabre twisted imagery. Yeah, it isn't full of retarded jump scares, but it's atmosphere is absolutely brilliant. Watch it late at night, all lights off, with surround sound speakers and then you will see that it is an amazing film. Like with the babadook, some people loved the movie and found it horrifying while others found it boring. The people who found it boring should go watch paranormal activity 4 or the freaking nightmare on elm street remake.
So people can't have opinions?
I loved Babadook, but this film wasn't as good nor is it as scary. If the film utilised the witch more, it would be had been better, because it every scene involving the witch was disturbing and uneasy.
Krivonius Y Alright then. I guess that I can kinda see your point. Still, I loved both films. I do think that the babdook was better though.
I thought The Babadook was corny, childish, and not scary at all. But I thought The Witch was creepy, disturbing, and kinda awesome. So check it out, we're 3 people with completely different opinions. Who woulda thunk?
Filip Krivokapic But the daughter is the witch. It's the story of how she became the witch

Thanks Chris!!! I'll be watching this one tonight. I always love coming here for your commentary and movie suggestions.
The colors help building the depressing/spooky atmosphere. Two details I like about this movie, are that the story is based on acual historical documents so it gives a realistic idea what life that time must have been like. And two the concept of self fulfilling prophecy was very interesting.
Hey Chris you should start a series where you review cult classics of your choice while there's a gap in movie releases that'd be cool. For example films like Goodfellas, Donnie Darko, Trainspotting, ect
Is Goodfellas considered a cult classic? I thought it was a widely popular movie.
+johnriddell71 well it's considered a cult classic to some websites and people but I wouldnt know 100% I wasn't around in 1990. But I'm sure it can be considered a cult classic. The film definitely has a cult following
+Juan Perez well a cult following means die hard fans like myself. The point is if just like for him (Stuckmann) to review those types of films
+Juan Perez Pulp Fiction is often considered a cult classic and it made loads of money and critics loved it. I suppose it is an exception.
Hey chris, what do you use A's for? Ive noticed you use A-'s for films that are super good and then A+'s for films that are your kinda top "echelon". Or more how do you choose between A and A-'s. Thanks for the great reveiws that also dont actually spoils scenes or major plot points like so many others on youtube. I love seeing a movie without knowing much about it, that way everything intended to be expirenced freshly actually is and I can be more impacted by the film. Lookin out for the film going expirence and movies in general Thank you.
Dude. I'm a fan of your videos. One question, do you make videos on movie explanations? I watched hereditary a day before and was looking for explanation video couldn't find it in your channel and same thing with the witch movie.
The biggest problem I had with this movie is that you can’t really hear what’s being said! Did anyone else have this issue? I had this on full volume and still struggled. The movie was good and I loved the way it was filmed.
I totally loved this movie, in fact I think it is one of my favorite horror films of all time

I am finding a lot of people didn't like it because they were expecting 9aranormal Activity or Saw. Not that kind of movie. More of a creepy psychological drama that gave me the serious heebie jeebies. People also had a hard time with the Olde Worlde vocabulary and accents I agree with you about the scene with Caleb...I was holding my breath and had no idea what was about to happen . His acting was spectacular. I thought myself desensitized from all the horror fik0lms I've seen, turns out I was just waiting for something like this. Top Five scary movies EVER in my opinion.
+Corinne Waters Which scene are you referring to? I've seen the film, but it's been awhile. Are we talking about his encounter in the woods?
***** nope, the apple-and-rapture scene. My heart was racing.
Watched the movie just now, possible reason to the environment being so grey is to make the blood pop more, also the fire or candles, especially around the ending
I finally checked this film out tonight, absolutely loved it! I wanted to go back and watch your review again, always cool to put the reviews into context, before and after watching a film.
Side note; watching your older videos is great man, you remind me a lot of the Brendon Small character from Home Movies. Specifically the episode when he decides to review films 😅
This review is spot on. I found it VERY interesting, while others seem to think it is boring in parts. I found it to be very realistic and creepy. Good review.
I watched this film a few months ago during the London Film Festival and I thought it was brilliant. The ending is perversely satisfying. I'm so glad the film actually went there. Definitely one of the more unique and claustrophobic horror films of the last few years.
Yes it's absoolutely brilliant. I'm so glad there are a few people out there mature enough and intelligent enough to understand this movie and truly enjoy the sheer terror experienced by this poor family. It makes me angry and frustrated when I hear people bad-mouthing this movie and discouraging people from watching it, when in actual fact they are just too immature to appreciate it, and most likely didn't even understand it properly.

I know this review is years old now, but i just watched this for the first time today. Fantastic film.
It looked like it was filmed in Jämtland or Västernorrland. The way the trees look, and the tone kind of remind me of there during the autumn.
I really did like this movie. I loved how it was different and not that crappy stereotypical jump scare movie. However there were some things that had me confused and made me dislike it. The number one thing that made me not like it was the music that was chosen. For how slow the movie was going the music was too loud and hyped up for scenes that didn't really have much going on (like when they first departed from the plantation and when they found the foundation for their settlement). The other one is something everyone could relate to, it was almost impossible to tell what they were saying half of the time XD. The only other thing that had me confused was that some of the stuff was left unexplained. I understand why the witch would take the baby and how she used it, but I didn't understand what she did with Caleb and the twins. The only thing I can think of that she used Caleb for was either to send him to the family to stir up the family and separate them, or just to be amused. Then later in the movie we don't even get to see what she did with the twins. All we saw was her laughing then the next day we just see Thomasin asleep with the goats slaughtered. Were they killed? Did she take them to use them for spells like the baby? We never really knew what she wanted or what she was thinking. I know that that is was what it was that made it scary, not knowing what she wanted from them, but it made things unclear and confusing. It was overall a good movie, it just lacked a bit of suspense and a lack of explanation.
the family members are the seven deadly sins
can you elaborate on that? I know the father said he's prideful, but the rest?

Chris do you not think the dark filter worked very well if u consider how it made temptation by the Witch (devil) very clear with bright red colour's at points? I personally thought it paid off very well
I think some of the dull lighting choices were built in. Eggers went to great lengths to make everything as authentic as possible. The clothing, language, etc. So- I feel like he was using as much natural light as possible, having the setting/atmosphere play its part too.
Honestly, my favourite horror movie of all time and one of my favourite movies of all time! This movie literally rocked me to my core like no other has.
This movie was great. As you said, it was designed to make you feel uneasy. That's exactly the point of a horror movie! Not silly jump scares, but that uneasy feeling that slowly creeps up on you and doesn't let you go until well after the movie's ended.
I love the fathers gruff voice. Ive never heard anything else like it.
Also Chris, thank you for making these videos. I just watched "the visit" after seeing your review of it and im glad I did. Next on my list is "the lighthouse" when it comes out. Im super excites about that one.
Cheers.
I'm 4 years late. But I saw this movie in theaters with about 6 other people. 2 walked out. I really liked it but found it hard to explain to friends after seeing it. After watching it a few times since then. This is one for the ages. Eggers is no joke.
Why does Chris look so angry in the Thumbnail XD
This was the best horror movie I've seen in a long time. I was genuinely creeped out through the entire thing.
I think the use of such a ‘bland pallet’ was to bring a greater intensity to the reds and blacks used in the more heightened/darker moments.
Otherwise great review.
Glad I wasn’t the only one who liked this flick.
Always appreciate the work you put into your critiques and commentary.
Honestly must watch this movie another time, I watched it in theaters expecting so much from it, and it wasn't what I was expecting which made me not like the movie very much and not appreciating the beauty this movie has to offer.
Why would you be expecting anything? I don't undersstand why people go in to see a movie expecting a particualr thing which invariably ruins the entire experience. Just go in and experience it without thinking about anything. It's much better that way. I don't even watch full trailers. If I get the feeling I'm going to like a particular movie in the first few seconds of a trailer - and my decision is made, yes I'm gonna see it - Bam, trailer gets shut down instantly. Why ruin the experience for yourself? They give far too much away in trailers and sometimes even mislead you. Don't watch them.
Who’s coming back to this review after watching The Lighthouse?
Man, I'm so happy to see someone else enjoy watching this film. I think that I was the only person not complaining about the movie once the end credits roll. I think it was the Old English speak that turned people off. There was one person who actually left the theater during the beginning when the dialog started. It's a very dark horror flick and I dug it.
Oh yeah, there were comments about "There were no jump scares" and "It wasn't really scary" from people leaving the theater. I got that creepy horror vibe once the movie kicked into gear for sure.
Chris, Love your reviews man. Keep up the great work. If you ever have time, you should make a Witch EXPLAINED video because this move had a lot of interesting pieces that I think you would do a great job diving into. The ending was indeed confusing but I think that is partly what made it so great. I would love to hear what you thought of everything. Thanks again for all you do!
Yeah this movie definitely had an amazing rear-end....
So it's good, that's all I need to hear, gonna go see it blind.
Han Solo Dies
+Lord Roy You mean his hair...right...RIGHT!
Bob Lee
It's just a phase though.
How can you see it if your blind
STOP OPRESSING ME BECAUSE OF MY DISABILITY!!!
Chris, where did you get that Spielberg shirt? I want it!
I can't believe you didn't mention the amazing performance by the Goactor who played Black Phillip. He delivered his lines and performance perfectly. :p
The Witch is a masterpiece. Finally a good horror film. This movie is in my list of the best horror films.👍👍
A 90 minute movie was actually good? These are strange times.
What scene is he talking about at 1:45? I watched the movie and liked it very much, just wondering
The coven chanting the 11th Enochian key around the fire was hot as fuck
Where do you find these movies, Chris?
The cinema
This movie is pretty well known, what are you talking about?
Ronan McCann I walked right into it.
Its one of the big 5 on rottentomatoes this weekend and there's been underground buzz for about half a year now. You just have to give a shit about movies.
Squidward: where did you get that??
Patrick: I found it
My favorite movie of 2016
Chris what scene scared the crap out of you was it when he saw the hot witch or when he was praying while he was in the forest?
perfect diction. where are you from man ? :) blessing for non-native speakers to listen and easily follow everything said in the review. good review too.
please review 'The Punisher' 2004
That should be a hilariocity
+Noah Caboose that was actually a pretty good underrated movie
+Noah Caboose it's not that bad, the Dolph lundgren and the punisher war zone are worse.
+Aaron Jones Thats the one I was thinking of
+Noah Caboose nah the one with Thomas Jane? It's not good but not hilariocity bad.
"Anya taylor joy, I hope I said her name correctly"
Dude what is it with youtubers and having no confidence when it comes to names. It's a trope at this point. Anya is a pretty fucking damn intuitive name, plus the fact it is something that any normal adult would have seen *numerous* times in their life. Yes, it's not really an English name, but it's a very common nickname in Russian.
Apologizing about butchering a slightly different name just seems like it'd be a bit alienating.
I hate when ppl do that too. It's so self deprecating and phoney.
the color palet in this movie was perfect. added so much to hopelessness.
I'm so excited to see what he does next after watching The Lighthouse
Hey Chris idk if you play games or not but I highly recommend Life is Strange. Just finished it myself and damn is it powerful. Anyways try it out and give a review. It's practically a movie anyways...
That was good shit
+Noah Caboose I know right? Was an bad ass game. I don't think I've ever seen Chris review a game but if he ever wanted to this would be the one. It's so cinematic. Would be the perfect game for him to review.
Great game!
+Jesse Guzman Oh didn't realize. But yeah I really want to hear his thoughts on this game. I'd be genuinely shocked if he did not like it.
+Alex Markivich He should definitely review that game. I'd say it's one of the best games ever made. Although the last episode let me down. Still overall the game really effected me on an emotional level.
