That was SO entertaining. Funny - as soon as you mentioned being adventurous and taking the bus, I pictured a dilapidated, smoke-belching old clunker packed with people and their goats and chickens jammed into every possible space. The Mayan ruins look fantastic - almost unbelievable! And those monkeys - in slo-mo - and gorgeous jaguar? Wow.

We agree! It is super fascinating! It was warm there! We're sitting on a boat in south Florida right now and a frozen waterfall sounds pretty dang good!
@@AdventuresofAplusK It was. Hanging Lake in the winter is a great hike if you wear crampons. The snow is packed and its easy to get a permit. We just randomly woke up one morning and got our permit online for that same day easily and there were plenty of permits left for the day.

Eventually the story took shape and it was an enjoyable exercise. One co-author chose the name of Gwyneth for her character, while I chose the name of Harold for mine. You can imagine that I nearly fell out of my chair when Adam used the same names for the mannequins! On a more serious note, my wife and I both have enjoyed following your adventures this past year. Your content is creative and well-presented. Perhaps the one thing I appreciate most is that you both have maintained your sense of wonder and you are able to convey this through your videos. Keep up the good work!
Those ruins are breathtaking - such rich history! Were you able to go into many of the rooms from where the doors lead? Love all the iguanas! Your chocolate drink creations reminded me of a stop my family made in Santa Fe at a little shop where we drank chocolate with different add-ins, too - YUM!! And I'd love to learn more about the backstory of Harold and Gwyneth, and what happened next???
They had a few doorways open, but you couldn't go any further than just one room in. The iguanas were a fun sight! We had chocolate covered chili peppers in Santa Fe! Harold and Gwyneth have been married for 43 years and live in West Duncansfordshire in the North Highlands. As you can tell Gwyneth is cranky and demanding and Harold just puts up with it because believe it or not she cooks a mean Sunday roast. 😂

That was beautiful. I've been to Tulum and Chichen Itza and Uxmal looks like it might be even better than Chichen Itza. Adam dropping some sound advice at 13:40. I have firsthand experience with that, although it was large seabirds.
Great video…the bus seemed like a lot of fun with those jams! Lizards=squirrels…😂. I love the Harold and Gweneth story…so funny! I would love the chocolate drink! Keep traveling safe!
I took the SUR bus to Uxmal today (11-03-24), and it was such a easy process! HOWEVER the bus coming back was a nightmare, the 3:00pm which came at 3:45pm just drove by. The bus was packed! We waited for the 5:00pm bus which came at 5:40pm also didn’t stop. It was getting dark and there was another couple from Germany who had paid for a return ticket. Luckily for some reason I only paid for a one way. The lady at the snack stand called a taxi for us which cost $1200.00 Pesos ($83.00CDN) Never go to Uxmal on a weekend or holiday. The entrance fee to Uxmal is now $556.00 Pesos. But overall your video was VERY helpful.

We visited Uxmal in 2019. Beautiful and unforgettable. We also went to Kabah down the road but missed out on Sayil, Xlapak and Labna on the Puuc route. Thanks for the memories!

They let you film??? LOL! When I was there last year I had several of the "blue shirts" tell me filming for UA-cam was absolutely prohibited ... even though I paid for the ticket for my cameras. Glad you got to see it (and film! LOL!)
Oh how weird! Once we made it through the turnstiles we didn't see ANYONE that looked like they worked there. We are usually pretty discreet when we film, but we didn't have any issues anyway. That's a bummer! Especially since we've seen several videos on UA-cam from Uxmal
We made sure to do enough research before hand so that we could get the gist of it and share what we thought were the highlights and would interest folks. If we weren't filming and had more time to spend there we would love to hire a guide to learn as much as possible. We do like to hire guides when we can

Just getting to this video but I lived in Guatemala for 2 years back from 1999-2001 in my college years and it is very hot. I never saw any ruins in Mexico but did see a few in Guatemala although I would like to see these and Tikal of course. Hopefully someday I can go there.

Hey there! We're in Mèrida now and just went to the ADO station to buy tickets for Uxmal tomorrow. Unfortunately, we were unable to buy round-trip tickets. Maybe it differs depending on which ticket agent you get? We were able to pay by credit card. I just thought I would add that detail for others looking into going.
Oh that's so odd. We read that happening to someone else on another blog. I wonder if it was because you were trying to get it the day before. It could be the agent also. That's a bummer! Hopefully you were able to go and had a good time! Thanks for sharing your experience! If you see this we'd love to hear how it went!
Too bad you didn't get a guide there. YOu really missed a lot of explanations to everything you saw. That sound from clapping was the bird quetzal, which is very important. We have done all of the major ruins in the Yucatan, and Uxmal is a favorite of ours. Chichen Itza is another great one but you need to spend the night at the old hotel next to it, and go in when it opens, and get a certified guide. It isn't cheap but you miss so much without their expertise. There are vendors but they are set up in a specific area and don't bug you. It is also a whole day visit, but if you are a history buff, like us, it is a must.
AC bus is great for foreigners. Not so great when you realize the locals aren't used to it and get sick 🤢 because of it. Keep a bag handy for the locals 😅

Chiten Itza wasn't that bad - vendor wise...hearing the Jaguar noisemakers every 10 seconds was a little annoying though. I got myself a great straw hat for only $5! (back in 2017)
We are sure it’s great too! We just had heard from many people that they enjoyed Uxmal more and we always enjoy visiting the less popular spots! (Although Uxmal is still very popular)

In 2020 we made a day of Merida>Uxmal>Cenote Kankirixche>Mayapan. We had a great time! Missing Merida and Yucatan right now.

Hey there! We're in Mèrida now and just went to the ADO station to buy tickets for Uxmal tomorrow. Unfortunately, we were unable to buy round-trip tickets. Maybe it differs depending on which ticket agent you get? We were able to pay by credit card. I just thought I would add that detail for others looking into going.
Oh that's so odd. We read that happening to someone else on another blog. I wonder if it was because you were trying to get it the day before. It could be the agent also. That's a bummer! I have been in that part of the world and one of the things I remember is how hot and humid it was. But we’ll worth the discomfort.
Yes it was warm and steamy, but totally worth it and part of the experience!
Too bad you didn't get a guide there. YOu really missed a lot of explanations to everything you saw. That sound from clapping was the bird quetzal, which is very important. We have done all of the major ruins in the Yucatan, and Uxmal is a favorite of ours. Chichen Itza is another great one but you need to spend the night at the old hotel next to it, and go in when it opens, and get a certified guide. It isn't cheap but you miss so much without their expertise. There are vendors but they are set up in a specific area and don't bug you. It is also a whole day visit, but if you are a history buff, like us, it is a must.
A guide is always a valuable resource!

AC bus is great for foreigners. Not so great when you realize the locals aren't used to it and get sick 🤢 because of it. Keep a bag handy for the locals 😅

Chiten Itza wasn't that bad - vendor wise...hearing the Jaguar noisemakers every 10 seconds was a little annoying though. I got myself a great straw hat for only $5! (back in 2017)
We are sure it’s great too! We just had heard from many people that they enjoyed Uxmal more and we always enjoy visiting the less popular spots! (Although Uxmal is still very popular)
