I also have a tradesman with the 5". I'm planning on putting in the larger. It's plug and play and you gain all of the advanced features. Same with the nicer dash. With the dash you just need the alpha obd app to correct the odometer. You can also make a ton more tweaks with the app. The trucks are basically Laramie ready.
What a bummer! We’re picking up our 2020 Ram 1500 Tradesman Tuesday and I was under the impression I could upgrade to the 12” screen! Everything about this truck is perfect (color, interior, seating, etc), and my husband is in love with it, but I’ll be driving it the most and am not happy about not being able to upgrade! You’d think you would be able to do this when you pay so much. My 2008 Town n Country has same features as this! Sheesh!
Hey so I had the radio with the uconnect 3.0 I upgraded to the uconnect 5.0 (the one in the video) and when I switch to reverse the back up camera shows up in the mirror and the radio shows a blue screen. I ordered a new rear view mirror with the microphone so will it be plug and play? Will it switch the camera to the radio and use the microphone for phone calls?
So I had to have the van jumped and after I started it the radio screen never turned on it’s still completely black. On/off button does nothing. Any plugs im unaware of to check or anything at all? Would really appreciate the help
Well done. Thank you very much. I used to have a car with a U-Connect 8.4, and the satellite stations that you pre-set were named across the top, along with the channel number. I now have a vehicle with a 5.0 screen, as you demoed. I haven't had it very long, but I find it somewhat cumbersome having to remember what station relates to each number. The 4 numbers isn't bad, and those are my most frequently used stations. But when you select all the station pre-sets, it tests your memory. Other than that, I like the unit. It's easy to use, and I don't need a navigation feature. I know my way around quite well without it.......Thanks again.
If I missed it I apologize, but is there a way to have the volume of your radio lowered for when you start your car?Every time I start my car, the radio comes on and it's loud as hell. Also, when I use my remote start as soon as I opened the door the radio starts playing and it's loud. I cannot figure out how to lower the volume so it's at a reasonable volume!
Hi did you ever find out how to do this ? I've had my car with this radio for 4 years and now the radio turns its self off every 20 mins or so and it wont connect to any bluetooth devices (eg phone) anymore either. I thought a hard reset might work. I've already tried taking the fuse out and putting it back in but had no luck.
I would revert to disconnecting your batteries from the terminals and leave off for 15 minutes. Then reinstall to see if all is back working to normal.
u said the main reason u did it was for the backup camera. Was the camera installed from the factory and worked when u installed the new radio or did u also install a new backup camera
Now all i need you to help me figure is how to control ipod. When I plug in my ipod to the usb, I can play it through the stereo, but my screen locks and I can only find a specific song through the U3 screen. How do I control ipod so I can scroll through the ipod??
It shouldent lock up but if it does you can go on eBay and some people can retrieve the code for you. It sounds risky but i used it and I was able to get the anti theft code and unlock my radio
I'm having issues with this radio after changing the battery my radio cuts off and reboots every 3-4 minutes i have tried multiple ways to rest and even done a hard reset ( disconnecting the battery and touch both + - together overnight ) still no solution in the issue i did read in a ram form that there's a hidden radio fuse under the hood near the brake booster anyone have had this issue and found the fix PLEASE let me know it's driving me crazy
It shouldn’t but if it does you can go on ebay and find somebody who can give you the unlock code. It sounds risky but I used it to find my unlock code and it worked and it only cost be $5
Jawco777 I would absolutely do that if I could, but all I have to do is just press the media button and I’m good...I rarely listen to radio, I listen more to my phone by Bluetooth and Sirius radio.
@@MotorHead18 I just got mine and I was afraid there was no way around that. Not a big deal just a bit irritating since I rarely listen to the radio either.
Thank you for this review!! This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a new Tradesman with the basic radio and was contemplating upgrading to this radio. Does the backup camera show up on the radio screen? Mines currently in the rear view mirror. Do you have the steering wheel controls?
Motor Head thanks! My current radio is the am/fm Bluetooth one. I forgot the exact name but it’s the next level down from this radio. How many XM presets are there? Is it easy to “channel surf” on XM using one of the buttons?
I had another question. When you turn the truck on does the satellite radio come on automatically or do you have to go through menu and select xm? In my old vehicle as soon as I started the vehicle XM came right on.
Hector Torres No clue, but I would just search the exact year/make/model of your truck and add 8.4 radio and bezel in the search function and it should pop up!
I have a ram 1500 with the same Uconnect and in my opinion it is by far one of the worst systems ever if you enjoy quality sound. I have been contemplating on replacing it with an aftermarket deck so I was just wondering if anyone has done that before and has it screwed with the functionality of the truck or the warranty? I like my sound and I would love to install aftermarket speakers that are run by an aftermarket amp and maybe a shallow mount sub under the seat. I know that you can install aftermarket speakers but because the Uconnect is so under powered it's basically pointless and it has bass roll-off. I've seen people use line out converters but it still doesn't leave you with the sound customization's like an actual aftermarket deck has. If anyone has information on doing this it would be great to hear feedback.
I would not recommend going with a aftermarket deck. There are settings for the truck (such as date/time, safety/assistance, and other settings within the settings button) that cannot be used with a aftermarket deck.
I also have a tradesman with the 5". I'm planning on putting in the larger. It's plug and play and you gain all of the advanced features. Same with the nicer dash. Good question, I would like to know as well!
On the xm how do you set those top 4 channels I can't seem to find out how
Go to the actual channel you want to save and just hold the button where you want to set it!
My connect 3 doesn't do the reverse sound and the stereo don't show me what is playing. My Bluetooth works great. My truck dodge ram 1500. Year 2019
Do you have the 5" display?
Que formato de usb soporta el Uconnect ? no me reconoce el formato debe ser fat32 o NTSC? Mp3 o cual?
I have a question. How to make Bluetooth default when starting the car? Mine has the radio and I would like to switch to Bluetooth. Help please!!!
That’s a good question lol but I don’t think it can default to Bluetooth because it loses connection naturally.
This stereos been good too me till now. Damm volume knob isn’t working it just stays frozen.
Ooooo that’s a no go
Thanks for the video, sold me on getting the tradesman with this radio. How’d you get a 2018 without the rotary shifter?
Dhobby Because it’s a 2500
Is there a GPS in this system?
Not that I recall!
Do you know how to hard reset the device. My touch screen is no longer responding

No clue man
With the compass is there any way i could put navigation??
Yes for sure
infotainment sells plug and play 8.4 radios
They do for a pretty penny!
I got mines from a dealer and my stereo came like that so pretty much I can’t hear no radio or anything till I get the 4 digit passcode

I have tried that disconnected the battery terminals almost for 1 hour and still doing the same.

Is there a bigger screen out there that has all the same options as the stock radio? I would like a bigger view when backing up
Mopar sells a plug and play kit for the larger radio uconnect system!
Where can I find the anti theft code mines is locked and I just got it from a dealers
Does it support Apple car play?
No, although my iPhone links up everytime I start the vehicle. It picks up everything I need while driving, phone calls and music!
It will if you get the SLT/Express or the Big Horn. Don't ask me why
u said the main reason u did it was for the backup camera. Was the camera installed from the factory and worked when u installed the new radio or did u also install a new backup camera
