  • We took a trip to Hamden CT to hike up "Sleeping Giant" Blue trail. This was one fun hike that included some super steep cliff side climbs. After ascending the giants head we climbed down, only to climb back up to the super popular tower before coming down yet another trail. We'll be back for another sleeping giant trail very soon!
    Update! see the second half of the blue trail past the tower here:

    That trail beat the shit out of me, at a certain point it literally turns into an almost vertical climb

    My cousins and I got lost there in 1972 during a boring family reunion and only found our way back to the camping area many hours later.

      It’s a lot of fun, but watch out for the 50% chance of thunderstorm. Don’t get stuck up there during lightening!

      @@MikeGetsLost I made it safe thankfully, but did it again today and it was going to rain so we did half the trail and came down.

      I ended up hiking in the rain this weekend, it’s fun as long as there’s no lightning

    What's the parking situation like?

    • @MikeGetsLost
      @MikeGetsLost  9 місяців тому

      There is an enormous amount of parking in the main lot. There’s additional park on the road. There is limited space, mostly road side, at the eastern hikers lot

    You are out οf shape dude. And by the way, our 11 year Wheaton Terrier had no problem on any part of the trail. And she was not the only dog either on the trail. 😂😂😂

      This was straight off having Rona a couple years ago, the nasty one not the itty bitty cold version haha. Totally fine these days, I own a gym ;)

    High quality vid. Sorry to contradict, but I've seen lots of dogs go down that rock scramble. One guy carried his dog in one arm and walked down like it was just an ordinary staircase. You could've also just handed your dog down to someone at the bottom.

      First time up there. Since I moved ten minutes down the road I’ve been up many times and yes you’re right, tons of dogs.. and more than a few in guys arms. Our dog at the time though, no, I would t trust her up there. She’s a serious puller and she would have done something haha

    Just tackled the blue trail yesterday. Felt so accomplished to get to the top, I have never gone up a mountain like that before and your video helped give me some more confidence. I am definitely excited to do it again!

      I love the Blue trail, although the second half past the tower isn't as exciting it's still worth completing the entire thing!

    Awesome video tho don't think I'll be able to do the blue trail lol or at least not able to go all the way up top! I did hike Sleeping Giant for 1st time in November up the Tower Trail and too my surprise the tower was opened then.

      We actually did this shortly after parks reopened and we’re still way out of shape. You should definitely try if, and there’s a slightly easier trail on the cliff face to the side that’s less steep at the rock face

    The first time I watched this video it gave me anxiety lol! I'm doing the Giant Master Program, and this is the one part of the blue trail that makes me nervous. I hiked that part (above the quarry) once many many years ago, so I know I can do it again. Like everything else, it's just one step at a time. Thanks for giving me a great visual!

    Can you tell how long took you to get the whole trip?

    • @MikeGetsLost
      @MikeGetsLost  2 роки тому

      If you are fairly experienced and just go up the head you can do it in like 45 minutes. Add 15 minutes to get up to the tower and probably 20-25 to walk back down the gravel trail. If you just want to go up to the castle the gravel trail is very quick by itself and starts in the parking lot

    She makes it look easy. I know it’s not. Are there any easy hikes up to the tower?

    • @MikeGetsLost
      @MikeGetsLost  2 роки тому +1

      I was coming off some serious inactivity when I filmed this so it killed me but it really isn’t THAT bad. The gravel trail near the parking lot goes right to the tower and is as easy as it gets!

    What's the best way to get past the part almost near the top wear the rock gets fairly smooth and there's not much to grab onto I noticed it's very difficult to get past wear the rock is smooth it's almost near the top
