You know, I am honestly surprised. I have been born and raised in Maine my entire life and I was worried about the girl's reaction to Moxie. It's a distinct taste that grows on you, I used to despise Moxie; it was all my grandfather ever drank.. but I like it now that I'm older. And your daughter is RIGHT, Moxie originally WAS made for medicinal purpose lol She's a smart one already; and very cute lol Also "coffee cakes" usually don't taste like coffee; it's just the texture that makes it a coffee cake. The crumbly, dry fall apart texture, they are to be eaten with coffee usually. Here, if there's coffee in it, it'll say coffee flavored or coffee infused. I am pleasantly surprised with this reaction ^ ^ Although I would've sent salt and vinegar Cape Cod chips personally lol (I can't even eat half a whoopie pie though; and its our state dessert - its just so sweet, it takes me a while to eat one)
I love seeing people try the food and drinks I have on the regular here in Maine! Moxie was first used for medicinal purposes, so Chloe had the right idea!
+TylerLasagna ; Indeed she did, smart little girl. I'm from Maine too and their reactions to Moxie was actually pleasing. I was worried they wouldn't like it like I did as a child; but now I drink it from time to time; it's definitely an aquired taste.
being British and living in the US I miss coffee flavored coffee cake and was disappointed to discover that Americans don't actually put coffee in there coffee cake, I guess I'll just have to make my own and market it here "English style coffee flavour coffee cake" yum
Children’s taste buds feel/experience flavors more intently, usually refuse strong flavors. so Phoebe willingness to try things means she has a great sense of adventure. Good going!
A life-long resident of Minnesota, I remember Boston Baked Beans candy being a staple of the candy counter at the corner store as a kid. You can still find them at different shops here and there, but it takes some looking. They're a product of Ferrara Pan Candy, which is based in Chicago, so they're a very midwest thing here in the States.
Live in Maine and was awesome seeing this in the recommended videos when watching your other videos. Interesting to see how you guys enjoyed our treats that we have here. Cape Cod chips really are the best.
I was born and raised in Portland Maine and then I moved to England for 10 plus years. I then moved on to Morocco and somehow ended up back in Portland Maine now. Glad you enjoyed the treats. I just may have to send some others.
Loved this as I am born and raised in New England. The coffee cake is not really made with coffee. It is something that we would eat WITH coffee. The traditional coffee cake is a spongy vanilla cake topped with a crumbly cinnamon topping (sometimes with nuts). Chloe saying "wicked pissah" made me laugh. It's a swear here!!! Hearing it from a little nugget like her made me laugh out loud!!! So cute!
This video was precious! I smiled through the whole thing. I hope you plan on having these co-hosts in more videos! Oh, and Happy Easter to everyone who celebrates it!
As someone from Maine, Yes sweetie, Moxie tastes like medicine!! Haha. That was adorable! I agree with her. The aftertaste is very medicinal! :) Adorable video!
Chloe is learning..always blame dad for the trumps..or the dog ;) Loved the family's addition to this taste test Barry. Chloe's little additions made me laugh - she takes after you! 'My tummy is on fire!!!' I think it was your fault she got those trumps.. Haha! Happy Easter to you all, I'm sure you're all nibbling away on chocolate as we speak x
Someone probably already mentioned this but American coffee cakes don't have coffee in them. They call them that because you eat them with coffee. That crumbly soft texture is supposed to go perfectly with coffee.
Moxie originally was a medicine so it's fitting that she thought it was. I live in Maine about 5 minutes from where it was originally invented and every year we have a big festival dedicated to Moxie. It's definitely a drink you either love or hate.
You have a gorgeous family! I enjoyed your adorable co-hosts immensely, I hope to see more of them! Couldn't help but smile through the entire video. :)
wicked pissa! i didnt know it was a beer, a common saying by locals. Im surprised they sent cape cod chips for a "maine" box. there are chips (crisps) that are very similar called Maine Coast.
My Virgin Kitchen Keep up the great work. Man I wish you could go to an event like CraveCon It would be so cool to meet you. I just found your channel recently and have been catching up on your videos.
My Virgin Kitchen You should look it up it is a foodie con happening in the states in Galveston Texas. It looks like it will be a blast. There are too many videos to watch all of them I am having to slowly go through the different ones.
Moxie is an old-fashioned soda that has been around, iIRC, since at least the 50's. Also, you finally got to try whoopie pies! I love making them. They are the best! BTW, in the states a 'coffee cake' is just a kind of cake you eat while you have a cup of coffee (no coffee involved in the cake itself). I like a good apricot almond coffee cake made with sour cream in the batter.
It's fun to see how fast your girls are growing up. I've got three nephews about of 10, 8 and 6 myself and I can't keep up with them. It's like I'll visit them at christmas and the youngest is learning to read, then I'll come back for new-year and he's reciting Shakespeare. Wow.. I just realized how old I'm getting. Anyway great vid and happy easter to you and your family :)
Most prepackaged coffee cakes here in the US don't actually have coffee in them but instead are meant to be enjoyed with a nice cup of Joe. Similar to tea cakes I'd imagine. Probably why she didn't taste the coffee. Great video!
I am a Mainer now living in Texas. Moxie is famous in New England. Moxie is bitter-sweet. You either love it or hate it. No middle ground. I always buy cases of it when I visit Maine. The jalapeno potato chips are relatively new. An interesting note: I work in a Texas prison and the prisoners will break up the jalapeno chips and mix them with hot water and make a soup. Surprisingly good. Sadly they couldn't send you Maine lobsters or clams called quahogs. Another treat for us are Italian sandwiches. They are very simple. A long submarine roll with luncheon meat like ham or salami, cheese, sliced tomatoes, Bell pepper, onions and pickles with a dash of flavored oil with salt and pepper. I will put the same ingredients together but it doesn't taste like Maine. A gentleman from Maine opened a Maine-style Italian sandwich in Houston where he also sells Lobster Rolls which is lobster meat mixed with mayonnaise served on a submarine roll. The man started with one shop in Houston and the sandwiches took off and he now has 3 shops. Plus, he sells Moxie!
American coffee cake is typically what you call a yellow sponge with a crumble topping rather then a frosting or icing. And the coffee portion would be the beverage served with the cake.
Aww, how adorable! Can you and your lovely daughters and the beautiful Mrs. Barry visit Texas next time you come to America? I would love to show you around and cook some old-fashioned foods. And I love your shows, your daughters can call me their honorary Granny😍
+vxscop ; I am a Maine native as well, and I USED to hate Moxie, but it grew on me as I got older. It was all my grandfather ever drank. And Chloe was actually right when she said it tasted like medicine, considering Moxie originally was used for medicinal purpose. But it's definitely an aquired taste.
Yet another Maine native chimes in here: when it comes to Moxie, there really is no in-between. You like it, or you don't. Personally, I do! As for "Wicked Pissa": I've never tried it, but it should be pronounced with a "soft" i. "Pih-sah". Finally, contrary to what Hollywood would have you believe, not everyone in Maine talks with what is actually known as a Downeast accent. In my opinion, though, the best examples of a Downeast accent are Marshall Dodge, and Tim Sample. Two of Maine's greatest humorists. In another video of people trying Maine snacks, I learned something new: 90% of the blueberries consumed in the United States are produced in Maine. 😉
Funny you mentioned cranberry sauce. Maine is famous for cranberries. Lobster and other seafood too of course. Perhaps you could try a Maine themed dinner from ingredients you can get locally. There is a pretty good chance the cranberries in your local store came from Maine anyways. Also, flavored sodas started as medicine a long time ago and were sold as health drinks in pharmacies. So it is no wonder it smells like medicine.
Barry if you can get your hands on some mackinaw fudge from Mackinaw City/Mackinac island in Michigan, USA you gotta try it. It’s so rich and good. Also any teal Travis city cherry treats from Michigan as well. Some of the best Michigan goodies. For sodas: faygo (specifically candy apple, root bear, and rock n rye) and Towne Club soda (Michigan cherry, Honolulu Blue, and tiger citrus punch for some awesome flavors). Jays chips/crisp are good too. From Michigan and we have some awesome though very regional goodies.
Hey Barry, some US soft drinks like root beer originated from the medicinal root teas the pilgrims and later settlers were introduced to and developed a taste for, by the tribal peoples, Indians. Root beer is flavored by sassafras root, Moxie by gentian root. There is also birch beer flavored by birch bark. I believe British people developed a taste for the ginger root your ancestors were introduced to by imports form Asia and developed ginger beer (which I love, better than ginger ale)
Ever heard the saying 'out of the mouths of babes' ;) That's the true beauty of children. They don't mince words. Adults could learn a thing or two from them :)
Your littlest is cracking me up Oh My Goodness she is so cute!!!!
You know, I am honestly surprised. I have been born and raised in Maine my entire life and I was worried about the girl's reaction to Moxie. (I can't even eat half a whoopie pie though; and its our state dessert - its just so sweet, it takes me a while to eat one)
Here I thought that Blue berry pie made with wild Maine Blu berries was the State dessert
Kayter Tot im proudly born an raised here in maine, never like moxie.
I grew up in south China, maine
When Grandpa comes on Christmas he brings us a year's supply of Moxie. We try to make it last because we like it.
I can eat an entire whoopie pie but my parents insist on splitting theirs
When I tried my first moxie it became my new favorite soda. It tastes like the old school rootbeer they served at pioneer days growing up
FYI, Coffee Cake goes with your Coffee, it doesn't contain coffee.
lmao thank you
Phoebe should make her own cooking videos on your channel! You have such a sweet family! :)
+MissCamiMuller I am planning on having a kids cooking slot on the channel with my girls and nephews
+My Virgin Kitchen that would be so cool!

+Alex “AlexAvenger” Smith Yeah, I thought the same when she said that. heh
they have seasonal flavors of cape cod chips throughout the year and my favorites are the crab seasoning flavored ones they have during the summer
Your children are precious! 🌸
(✿◠‿◠)/♥ Very cute & precious! :D
Awww I love Chloe's natural reactions. :) love these videos with your children
Great vid! And FYI coffee cake is just cake made to be eaten with coffee, it's not made with coffee.
+Crimson13 oh right we have coffee cake here and coffee flavoured generally
+My Virgin Kitchen coffee flavored coffee cake
being British and living in the US I miss coffee flavored coffee cake and was disappointed to discover that Americans don't actually put coffee in there coffee cake, I guess I'll just have to make my own and market it here "English style coffee flavour coffee cake" yum
+My Virgin Kitchen Is your coffee cake, more cake-like or crumbly like what we usually have here in the US?
+Alan Roberts Sounds good to me.
Some people call it coffee cake but often times they're just cakes you have with your morning coffee.
You are literally such a good dad and your girls are so cute. Your family is so adorable. Love the videos x
Children’s taste buds feel/experience flavors more intently, usually refuse strong flavors. so Phoebe willingness to try things means she has a great sense of adventure. Good going!
Our videos are so wholesome and fun! So innocent and happy!
And your daughters are beautiful, you should be proud! X
loving how you're involving the family Barry. makes for great watching.
I love your little family! Smiled and laughed through the whole video. Thank you for sharing. Just too cute. I love Maple Nut Goodies.
Live in Maine and was awesome seeing this in the recommended videos when watching your other videos. Interesting to see how you guys enjoyed our treats that we have here. Cape Cod chips really are the best.
My grandson and I love your videos, especially the ones with your family.
I was born and raised in Portland Maine and then I moved to England for 10 plus years. I then moved on to Morocco and somehow ended up back in Portland Maine now. Glad you enjoyed the treats. I just may have to send some others.
Miss Chloe knows what she likes - that whoopie pie didn't stand a chance
+Bettie Turner was a big fan of that chocolate burger lol
Loved this as I am born and raised in New England. The coffee cake is not really made with coffee. It is something that we would eat WITH coffee. So sympathetic, thanks to you Barry and the gang!
As someone from Maine, Yes sweetie, Moxie tastes like medicine!! Haha. That was adorable! I agree with her. The aftertaste is very medicinal! :) Adorable video!
I SAW THIS TITLE AND AUDIBLY GASPED. NOBODY EVER DOES ANYTHING FROM MAINE. THANK YOU!!!!!
Your videos are probably the ones that i enjoy the most on youtube, so joyful and cheerful :)
Nice to see someone from the UK try American things that aren't the worst possible stuff to send. Your daughters, wife , and dog are adorable.
Chloe is learning..always blame dad for the trumps..or the dog ;)
Loved the family's addition to this taste test Barry.
Kids are so cute. So happy to see very warmest family time. Good luck !
Cuteness factor off the scale. You have an adorable family!
Both kids r cute but chloe is so funny
cuteness overload! lovely family, so silly. How could anyone dislike this video.
The girls are so adorable!! You are a lucky man and have a beautiful family!
Actually coffee cake is made more for eating with your coffee rather than a cake with coffee. Oh and you should do a tiny shepherds pie!
Oh my gosh, the adorableness is too much.
3:10 LOL your daughter is so funny ^_^ good morning! Happy Easter =}
Absolutely adorable. The better half and I got a kick out of this because we are from New England.
I laughed non-stop during that.....they are just natural performers!
I love that you call your daughters "mate".
Yay! Glad you liked everything! Ive lived in Maine all of my life!
I so enjoyed seeing your family try all these goodies. My favorite is the maple nut goodies, yum lol. Your little ones are too sweet.
Your daughters are so adorable Barry!! Great video, really enjoy these taste tasting videos 😄
Moxie originally was a medicine so it's fitting that she thought it was. I live in Maine about 5 minutes from where it was originally invented and every year we have a big festival dedicated to Moxie. It's definitely a drink you either love or hate.
+TheCarGuyDevinC I live about 2 hours from Maine and I've never even heard of Moxie...
No worries about the accent, I've lived here all my life and still can't do it.
More vids like that please!!! That was amazing Baz, really pushed the boat out and it was spectacular. Loving the vids, keep it going!

We do alot of blueberry stuff. My grandfather on my dad's side grows them in his yard.

I love your videos and your daughters are so cute and they seem very kind
Going to Maine later this year so I'll be looking for all of these, especially the maple syrup
Maine native here, and I hate Moxie, it's like root beer with an after taste of motor oil. Never again
Moxie is good
You don't know what you're saying.
Yesssss nightquil with 10-30 motor oil. Stuffs gross!! But im a proud mainah 100%
Yet another Maine native chimes in here: when it comes to Moxie, there really is no in-between. You like it, or you don't. Personally, I do! oh i had to laugh so much. your little one is sooo funny. make more videos with your girls

i love the vidoes with the girls! Chloe's faces are priceless.
I'm from Maine and when he was trying to have the accent it was hilarious!!😂😂
Sarah Marie I couldn't stop laughing! to funny!
"coffee cake" is not coffee flavored. It is meant to be consumed WITH coffee.
Damn Barry back at it again with the amazing quality. 2160p!
I love it when UA-camrs get there
their children involved in videos that are normal for their channel and not child orientated.
"my tongues on fire!!" HAHAHAHA so cute😊
Your daughters are simply adorable
I love it when you have your family in your videos they are so cute! I love Maple syrup, so I would love all of those 😍😍😍😍. Great video!
Maple Nut Goodies are one of my FAVORITE candies. Yum!
Love the drawing of food on the fridge!😂
I saw this and I was so happy :D Not many people send things from Maine nor are we noticed as much as other states :3
You're kids are so cute. I couldn't help but laugh when Chloe said her tongue was on fire.
Here in the states coffee cakes aren't actually made with coffee. It's called that because they're normally served with either tea or coffee.
Chloe is a bit too honest 😂
+Conor Otoole There is no such thing as 'too much honesty'. If the truth is ugly, it's still better to face it.
+SpiegelDasKaetzchen true, she's perfectly fine (for now) :D
Ever heard the saying 'out of the mouths of babes' ;) That's the true beauty of children. They don't mince words. Adults could learn a thing or two from them :)
I know I'm only joking!
I love watching your videos. They put me in a good mood (:
I laughed so much at the New Zealand bit and nearly dropped my breakfast
