When I first watched this video I thought "hmm, those trees look familar" but figured it was just a coincidence. Then I looked at the description and realized it was where I grew up in the Central Valley. THEN I realized "Hey! I've been to a party in that barn before!" Small world. Great video!
I have always loved this poignant song from the very first first time I ever heard Iris singing it. I also enjoy playing it on my guitar. Your beautiful, heartfelt rendition does the song complete and consummate justice. Thank you.
Oh my gosh. I have been on the road from Maine to Alaska working for nonprofits for the last twenty years. Yes, the work was needed. but i miss...'the base'. very nice song and very well done....thank you so much.
Oh gosh, where have I been all of your life Miss Iris. I have been listening to music for 55 of my 60 years and heard that voice style maybe once as a child. But Elvis and Big O captured me then doo wop, Beatles, and rock and roll even Pink Floyd, Cooper and on. Never satisfied and not sure why. until Now. I missed my roots. My Southern porch gatherings. Through that Beautiful Voice I have closed my eyes and visited Mama. I have been home
I love this group and this song, it’s always the last one I listen to at the end of the night. Also trying to play it on my guitar, just started to play so it a bit rough, I’ll get there. Thank you for your sweet voice.
Gosh that girl can play a guitar and sing fantastic! Love to see women playing the guitar and giving the men a run for their money. I've been playing guitar since I was about 12 years old and I"m getting ready to turn 57 in April
I've always thought in general women sang American folk songs better than men...its just something special about the female voice and delivery...sorry fellow guys but that's the way I hear it!
I've heard the great Iris Dement sing this composition of hers many times, including in concert -- and your version is comparable, i.e., great! Especially, I like the way the singingl style is so close to Iris' distinctive style. Very sweet. Great work!
Congrats on the beautiful performance of my favourite song by The Oldtime Stringband, which I've only heard for the first time tonight. No one will ever top Iris Dement, but you have done her proud. Great backing, and the location combined with other parts of the clip depicting an American town, are all top shelf. Colin Carrington from country Australia. Love the ending, sliding the barn door and cows mooing. I'll look for more from your band.
Beautiful song. Haunting to me, even more so because politicians in league with greedy businessmen destroyed our little hometown of Martin, Floyd County, Kentucky. The sun actually did go down on our town. Love the song! Good strong lead vocals and great supporting musicians.
+blauwgrasschelp Ours was literally destroyed. It floods every ten years or so, so they claimed that they were going to tear it down, put in fill dirt, and build the town back on higher ground. Well, they drove the people and businesses out of downtown, demolished some buildings, then claimed that they had run out of money. Sad.
+blauwgrasschelp I like your music and the american folkmusic I'm not american but I like it and I think that you are an attractive mature woman.Greetings from Mexico City.
Fabulous rendition. My only little concern is that I can't hear the bass but other than that, it's dead-on. Has anyone (other than me!) ever noticed that this song is actually a lullaby?
Great, Great version. Iris would approve.

Fun! Tulare is a unique place
Gives me the shivers...most my age at 73 has probably experienced this happening.
After listening to this performance I could happily sit in a barn listening to The Oldtime Stringband all night. Lovely stuff. 😊
A beautiful rendition of an Iris Dement song. So peaceful and sad.
Yes, it makes me cry. Couldn't sing it live for a long time.
Yes, yes she does a great job!
Love her singing
Thanks for the pics of Tulare Calif. life in the old San Joaquin. Was a wonderful time in the 60's.
I love this song. It makes me so sad, but I still am drawn to it. It is so beautifully done! Thank you so much for sharing it.
I sing it when I'm homesick
Right now, my advice is to be really careful. As an active 88-year-old diabetic with type A blood, it may well be life or death for me.
Yes, I couldn't sing it in public for the longest time. Got too weepy.
Love this version, thanks. I always listen to the very end just to hear the cows !!
Ha ha
I love Iris Dement and you do justice (easy) to her🌻
Thanks
Beautifully done - it brought tears. Iris would be proud.
I have always loved this poignant song from the very first first time I ever heard Iris singing it. I also enjoy playing it on my guitar. Your beautiful, heartfelt rendition does the song complete and consummate justice. Thank you.
I like your appréciation. I like it also
Great cover, beautiful voice. Cheers from dairy farm country in northern NY on the Canadian border🍻🦅
Gold Stars and Happy Faces...Excellent song. Thank you.
I love her voice and I love this song. It echoes the disappearing way of life I have seen in my 88 years.
Hey John, my name is John as well. She has a great voice. Crazy life, isn't it?? What advice would you offer??
Oh my gosh. I have been on the road from Maine to Alaska working for nonprofits for the last twenty years. Yes, the work was needed. but i miss...'the base'. very nice song and very well done....thank you so much.
That's beautiful
Agree with most all comments. Beautiful cover of a great song. Love the banjo picker.

Great work!
Love Iris, though I've never been lucky enough to see her in concert. Thanks
Thanks for your comments and for listening
I have to agree this woman sings very much in Iris’s style. A great rendition! Thanks
Very nice...cheers from Australia
Great video and performance of such a nice song, fantastic!
Nice to hear. It was fun to make even though it was 114 degrees at the time. Typical summer for Tulare.
Thanks. It was very warm so we were lazy, but I don't think that deters from the song's message
Fine cover. Well done.
Thanks for covering this! Well done. Love it!
Nicely Done , Congratulations !
Love this song. Fantastic cover.

Beautiful song. Haunting to me, even more so because politicians in league with greedy businessmen destroyed our little hometown of Martin, Floyd County, Kentucky. The sun actually did go down on our town. Love the song! Good strong lead vocals and great supporting musicians.
Thanks. We should cherish our small towns! Shelly

anybody know what happened to Raul & the Mavericks best version + Video of 'Our Town' ?
Sorry, I don't
Guter Song bringt einen in nachdenkliche stimmung
Bravo 👏🏻
Que chula con que sutileza entra el violín me gusta
great
Ding,...WINNER!
Do they ever play in England?
This band can make me smile, or shed a tear for my town.....just give my Barlow knife to my kid.
not just the demise of the town, a metaphor of the rot of the USA
Sorry Scott, I don't agree about your comment. Don't mistake good small town life for not following what passes as value today. Have faith.
IDIOT. MORON.
IT IS PRECISELY THE CORRECT METAPHOR. THE IDIOT COMMENTING BELOW IS SOME AMERICA-HATING LEFTIST.
@@melanigaster I grew up in a small town. I moved to another... "Nothing good ever lasts."
@@melanigaster has your opinion changed since November 2020? We are seeing some chaos in the last few years and it is orchestrated...
Impossible to match Iris. She's peerless.
Agreed! I just love the song. I never could sing it before because I would start crying. Iris is a great songwriter.
Fabulous rendition. My only little concern is that I can't hear the bass but other than that, it's dead-on. Has anyone (other than me!) ever noticed that this song is actually a lullaby?
what are these other instruments apart from Guitar?
+Joe JM Fiddle(violin), doublebass and 5 string-banjo
No Cow Bell ?
did they replace Iris Dement?
Good song, you all should have listened to it before hand. sorry huge fail
O.K., I'll admit it: I have a weakness for pretty tomboys.
Kinda strange band, they are all dutch except the girl who apparently is american or irish.
There is no music in the Netherlands
I think this girl sings it better than Iris Dement.
I love Iris. But thanks for the compliment.
Doesn't have the same Wham..
