Jousting was kind of like medieval gambling between knights (and is in Asoiaf too). The goal is to knock your opponent off their horse, and once dismounted they can continue to fight on-foot or give up. It's usually done at a tournament for some kind of prize, so living to fight another tourney is preferable. Deliberately killing your opponent or targetting their horse, like Daemon does, is against the rules and grounds for disqualification or worse. Knights also put up a wager of sorts: their armor. Most knights are at least minor nobility so if they lose they can buy their armor back from their opponent in a process known as "ransoming". Hedge knights or poorer noble houses can have a hard time replacing their armor if they lose, which makes it a much bigger gamble. Anyways thats my ted talk.
Hey just a comment to your TED talk theres no common set of rules for jousting. So deoending on the rules, there are some, not many, joust where killing is sometimes legal.

Yeah, that was my experience as well. I really liked the first 4 episodes, but from episode 5 onwards it truly felt like Game of Thrones to me.
i actually liked the first 5 a little more than the last 5. but obv last 5 is the real storyline
