Utter musical bliss. The Godfather Blakely continually prodding and demanding that his erstwhile adherents extend themselves to greater and greater heights while Hubbard lays wait in the corner like a big cat ready unleash the full weight of his artistic fury on this classic Wayne Shorter composition. Bravissimo.
I think this was recorded 7 Aug 1982 at the Beppu Jazz Festival. Terence Blanchard-t; Donald Harrison-as; Billy Pierce-ts; Johnny O’Neal-p; Charles Fambrough-b
The opening solo by Donald Harrison turns me on. I think that Terrence Blanchard is great and sweet also and at their ages - WOW. I was fortunate enough to see Freddie Hubbard once and l was far too unsophisticated to know l was witnessing Legend, gone too soon.
Very nice!! All the solos were spot on. I'm slightly bias though. I was a drummer, so secretly I was admiring the drummer playing while holding his sticks in the traditional manner. Not easy to hit some of those quick cymbal crashes he did and keep a great beat at the same time.
Oh yes! Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Terrance Blanchard, Donald Harrison, Kenny Garrett, Wallace Roney all came through the Art Blakey & the Jazz Messenger school of Jazz.

Wow. When Freddie is on his game - look out!
Freddie Hubbard plays with the passion of a 19 year old look at his bobbin weaving and blowin all those hot notes in the stratosphere!

Sweet tune for the Tuesday 6pm crew! I just want to be the dude clapping in the background.
Never heard Donald Harrison ever play a bad note!

He’s now a master musician and award winning composer.

All amazing but Terrence Blanchard is so funky. So much flavor in those licks
Art looks higher than charlie Parker

Exemplary describes these 2 trumpet players but 🙏 say Woody Shaw triplets!
