- Tight on time but still want to experience an onsen in Japan? Here are four onsen facilities to consider near tokyo that does not require a trip all the way to hakone or other onsen towns! These are some of my favorite onsens to hit up everytime I'm in tokyo including an onsen theme park, a tattoo friendly onsen, & even one in tokyo! Not to mention, you can experience a natural spring water onsen from 1700m underground right in the heart of tokyo!

Thank you! This is so helpful. I am planning to visit Japan for 14-16 days and I have very loose travel plan that is basically explore as much of Honshu as possible, so I was just going to grab onsen whenever I could, outside of Hakone.

Might want to mention there's an onsen on the 12th floor of Haneda Garden, which is attached to Haneda Airport. Entrance is 4800 yen for non hotel guests, and it is open 24 hours. There are outdoor baths on the roof. I am planning on staying at the airport from when my flight arrives near midnight until the trains start up in the morning, so spending the night in the onsen is one option. Apparently for those with tattoos they sell stickers to put over them.. 😂
Google says the Oedo Onsen Monogatari in Urayasu is permanently closed… I’m confused. We are staying in urayasu for Disney so this would have been a great place to hangout!

Aren’t these sentos (artificial non-hot spring baths) and not onsens? Aren’t there no hot springs in Tokyo?
There ARE hot springs in Tokyo!
I've been to onsens in 46 out of Japan's 47 prefectures. La Qua by the Tokyo Dome was by far the worst one. Terrible service, nearly idiotic. Double standards, second class treatment to gaijin. Strongly recommend to stay away from it.

Which Onsens can I wear a swimsuit? If my swimsuit cover my tattoos would I be able to use it?
This is probably a very silly question, are the outdoor onsens always family-friendly/clothed and the indoor baths are generally all unclothed?
haha yes! In fancier resorts outdoor onsen a are also unclothed and separated by gender but generally the themed ones are family friendly

Are tattoos allowed in manyo club? And can you stay for 24hrs?
Unfortunately I don’t believe tattoos are allowed but u can stay overnight, there might be a small overnight fee so I would double check on their site!
Do these offer private hot springs for couples?
Some do! But they will def be an extra added cost- I’d recommend checking their premium menus/customer service to learn more
@@sophieeleung I'm actually at Oedo Onsen right now, and this place is amazing! Plus the admission is soooo cheap for what you get. They do have a private bath, but I saw on another site it was booked, so I didn't get to try it. I'm so glad they have the swimsuit baths because my other half and I are too shy to go to the naked ones. This place really does have everything I'm looking for. Highly recommend for those wanting to try it out. Thanks so much for telling us about it!
