Honestly, maybe they should add an entirely new villager type: Sassy/Rude. Edit: Sorry, just wanted to say I know the cranky and snooty villagers were supposed to have this type of personality, but in New Horizons they more seem like old people and rich aunts.
I hope in future games they treat you like a stranger with varying levels of friendliness depending on their personality and then depending on what you do from there will determine how they treat you. Maybe if you become enemies with them they could pull “pranks” on you like sending you/giving you a piece of rubbish or planting a pitfall seed somewhere by your house.

I used to have Mathilda in my GameCube town called "Timeout", and she was my absolute favorite villager in the game despite her rudeness, but there was just something about her that I couldn't bring myself to hate, I really dig her design. I'll never forget the time she gave me the OG Zelda for my birthday gift in the game, and since then we immediately became great friends. Now I strive to find her again in New Horizons to hopefully get her on my island. 😭

I honestly get why they censored the villagers in the newer games and made them less savage, but I wish they added a setting that you can turn on (but is off by default) that’s a villager sass meter. That would be the PERFECT solution, since I think so many of us miss the old villager personalities!
I know a lot of parents would be super mad if they added in the size so I kind of wish they had a switch thing where you can turn on the villagers rudeness but you can also have it off
I totally get that, I would personally like for it to just be like an option, a switch to turn on or off. And it’s up to the player to decide what option they would like! I'm back and forth on it... I feel like if there were islanders that actually weren't pleasant to be around, it would give more weight to who you try to recruit to move in. Right now since everyone is nice, it just feels like the population of your island is a fashion accessory.

I also wanted to add that in New Horizons if you have a sisterly villager and a cranky villager they may have a conversation very much like the examples you provided! I had Pashmina and Vladimir and they had a whole convo where they just insulted each other back and forth and it was hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣
As a Bunnie fan, that's her natural catchphrase that she still uses to this day. It always makes me laugh when someone with a cute catchphrase has to belt them out when they're stomping around, angry. I miss this dialogue so much, I still check my Wild World game because Bunnie is there, soon as she leave/if she leaves it goes byebye. She told me how much she missed me by telling me she went on a diet and lost so many pounds but because she missed me or was worried about me she gained it back. A little messed up but it felt like the most touching to me. Chow got angry with me but that was the thing, when Grumpy villagers got angry it only showed you just how much they cared for you if they got that upset. They look hard and in the beginning they are rude to you but once that friendship is there, it gets sweeter. He called me an idiot and told me how rude I was for leaving without saying anything and to come by every day so I didn't do it again, also to keep an eye on me.
I gave Reneigh piece of clothing that fitted her super well and she said "wow that's big hearted of you! well you have a normal sized heart" I was so sad I give her a gift every day she was one of my starting villagers and I have her photo

I have Ankha in both New Leaf and New Horizons and she was mad rude in New Leaf, but I loved it! She’s so funny and cool now in New Horizons. I love her so much. I also have Julian in New Leaf and New Horizons. He was a creep in New Leaf, selling me fake art. He made me so mad, so I put a pit fall seed in front of his house! In New Horizons, he’s so chill. I hardly can’t believe how much mellowed out Julian became. Also, don’t ever miss an appointment with your villager in New Leaf or any of the previous games! They will be so mad at you for the entire day! If you leave your town for too long in New Leaf, the villagers will be pissed at you. Ankha had the nerve to tell me that she could run the town way better than me if she felt like it!
I have a BIG grudge against Claudia. I had her in my new leaf town and she was so rude to me and my villagers. I also then accidentally autofilled in nh and GUESS WHO MOVED IN! That's right. Claudia. She was mean to me and all of my villagers even in New Horizons. If I ever see her again on my island I will die.

If you have the right villager types on your island they'll say amusing or rude things to each other. Have a cranky, a sisterly, and a snooty. If you have two crankys that's the best. Some dialogue I've had is; Butch to Cherry: Fine by me, you forked-tongue airhorn. The floor is all yours. Tell 'em. Butch to Cherry: I.AIN'T. GRUMPY. Plus, it was YOUR ghastly ogre scowl that chased the kid off. Cherry to Butch: Would THAT work for you, you dilapidated sourpuss? Cherry to Shep: Fine. Yeah I can cater. Did you want that knuckle sandwich with or without lettuce? Butch to Dobie: You should consider lightening up a bit, pal. Why're you always such an ornery cuss, anyhow? Dobie to Butch: You wanna see a surly grump? Maybe try lookin' in a mirror! Portia to Butch: But even so- a hyacinth! And a yellow hyacinth at that, my dear. Why in the language of flowers, a yellow hyacinth says, "I want to be more than friends." If you have more than just the normal and lazy type (I know they're the cutest) you can get some amusing dialogue.
to be honest it would be so easy to implement it into the options, just a toggle for enabling rude dialogue options. that way its disabled by default and youre free to turn it on

So I was just playing my game and I set the time for Agent S to visit my house and waited until the exact minute she would arrive but she didn’t, that’s when I realized I accidentally waited on the next day. So then I went up to her and she was mad about not visiting and she told that exact threat to me. I’m about to send a payback letter about threatening to burn her house down.
Quillson is really mean in New horizons. I accedentally gave him an oarfish and hé gave me A baby suit 😡😡 he also says that everyone is already looking forward To have him on the island. He always made my peppy villagers insecure.
Opal had a complete stomping meltdown over one of the inoffensive little bunnies and I couldn't calm her down so I told Isabelle. Opal was so frosty to me after that. "Oh, look who's here.." (walks away.) I regret I didn't have pitfall seeds until after I got rid of her.

I wish I still had the exact thing she said, but Renee when she moved onto my New Horizons island just looked me over and first thing she said was something like "what? you wanna fight?" which really caught me off guard with how friendly the islanders usually are. Also just one that was more funny because of how sometimes islanders give you random gifts or ask for things you're carrying... Marshal the other day came up to me saying he saw a toilet and it reminded him of me before giving it to me... and then right after Nate in dialoge had a *sniff sniff* is that a toilet!? When talking to me haha
I do and don't miss the rude villagers, on one hand I like kabuki reading as wholesome grandpa, on the other hand I miss villagers like the ones I made such good friends with feeling special BECAUSE the lazy and normal villagers were so sweet back in gamecube (with a few others thrown in of course)

Peter Lorre's character Joel Cairo goes off on another villain called The Fatman and calls him things like a bloated idiot and a stupid fat-head. The line was even parodied in famous animation like Ren and Stimpy.
I have no idea why, but my brothers and I had a vendetta against bitty growing up We would always send her death threats in the mail with trash attached as presents to try to convince her to move out of our towns. She's on my new horizons island now, and we've become good friends. It's funny how things work out. Thank you bitty for helping to teach me how to be nicer to others ;)

As I was watching this video, for the first time in forever, two of my villagers had a conversation, but it was just Pinky saying she’d have a butterfly for a roommate. That’s it. They both asked me what bug I’d have as a roommate and I answered “let me think about it” (“ew gross”was the other option). They just said a couple more likes and ended the conversation. I didn’t even get to really answer. I miss when they’d have disputes and I’d have to ease the tension. It actually made what they were talking about interesting. Now I never see my villagers talking, and when they do, it’s so boring. And this is just one example.
I had that penguin villager in Wild World, I think his name was Ronald, and his catchphrase was dummy. So he'd be like, "Hey, how are you doing, dummy?" I was probably like 5 years old at the time, and we he said that, I'd push him to the beach, and block off the exit by digging a w'Hole' bunch of holes around. Yeah.

Chow got angry with me but that was the thing, when Grumpy villagers got angry it only showed you just how much they cared for you if they got that upset. They look hard and in the beginning they are rude to you but once that friendship is there, it gets sweeter. He called me an idiot and told me how rude I was for leaving without saying anything and to come by every day so I didn't do it again, also to keep an eye on me.
I miss the rudeness so much. Gracie was my nemesis! I wanted to spit on her dang car she irked me so much! Lol

The thing is being really friendly with someone you just met is so unrealistic I mean I was mean to my now best friend when I first met her so It makes sense for your villagers to not be entirely buddy buddy when you first meet them but still be civil like my neighbors are with us even though we don't have any sort of friendship just like the older games but now they just start off like you have known them for like 10 years which makes no sense sorry for my long comment and thanks to anyone who read it all
I have Ankha in both New Leaf and New Horizons and she was mad rude in New Leaf, but I loved it! She’s so funny and cool now in New Horizons. I love her so much. I also have Julian in New Leaf and New Horizons. He was a creep in New Leaf, selling me fake art. He made me so mad, so I put a pit fall seed in front of his house! In New Horizons, he’s so chill. I hardly can’t believe how much mellowed out Julian became. Also, don’t ever miss an appointment with your villager in New Leaf or any of the previous games! They will be so mad at you for the entire day! If you leave your town for too long in New Leaf, the villagers will be pissed at you. Ankha had the nerve to tell me that she could run the town way better than me if she felt like it!

I have a BIG grudge against Claudia. I had her in my new leaf town and she was so rude to me and my villagers. I also then accidentally autofilled in nh and GUESS WHO MOVED IN! That's right. Claudia. She was mean to me and all of my villagers even in New Horizons. If I ever see her again on my island I will die.

If you have the right villager types on your island they'll say amusing or rude things to each other. Have a cranky, a sisterly, and a snooty. If you have two crankys that's the best. Some dialogue I've had is;
Butch to Cherry: Fine by me, you forked-tongue airhorn. The floor is all yours. Tell 'em.
Butch to Cherry: I.AIN'T. GRUMPY. Plus, it was YOUR ghastly ogre scowl that chased the kid off.

If you have more than just the normal and lazy type (I know they're the cutest) you can get some amusing dialogue.
to be honest it would be so easy to implement it into the options, just a toggle for enabling rude dialogue options. that way its disabled by default and youre free to turn it on

I wish I still had the exact thing she said, but Renee when she moved onto my New Horizons island just looked me over and first thing she said was something like "what? you wanna fight?" which really caught me off guard with how friendly the islanders usually are.
Also just one that was more funny because of how sometimes islanders give you random gifts or ask for things you're carrying... Marshal the other day came up to me saying he saw a toilet and it reminded him of me before giving it to me... and then right after Nate in dialoge had a *sniff sniff* is that a toilet!? When talking to me haha

Litterally why Gonzo was my favorite villager on gamecube. his house was right beside mine and he was just this pissed off old koala bear. he was just a grumpy gray old man in my childhood mind. I loved him
As I was watching this video, for the first time in forever, two of my villagers had a conversation, but it was just Pinky saying she’d have a butterfly for a roommate. That’s it. They both asked me what bug I’d have as a roommate and I answered “let me think about it” (“ew gross”was the other option). They just said a couple more likes and ended the conversation. I didn’t even get to really answer. I miss when they’d have disputes and I’d have to ease the tension. It actually made what they were talking about interesting. Now I never see my villagers talking, and when they do, it’s so boring. And this is just one example.
I had that penguin villager in Wild World, I think his name was Ronald, and his catchphrase was dummy. So he'd be like, "Hey, how are you doing, dummy?" I was probably like 5 years old at the time, and we he said that, I'd push him to the beach, and block off the exit by digging a w'Hole' bunch of holes around. Yeah.
