I’ll have to dig up my old guide, but I could’ve sworn it did say that Jack was a Black Cat under his pumpkin mask. What adds to it is the superstition surrounding black cats and the belief in many cultures that they were tied to witches and magic.

The difference is folklore is supposedly based on true life accounts. Like Bigfoot. Mythology is based on hundreds of years of passed down legends. Therefore, they are somewhat similar but definitely not the same or even virtually the same.

Something interesting i also noticed about some characters is their relation to roman gods. Apollo roman/greeck god who is associated with music and birds. Diana is a roman goddess of the hunt with a deer as sacred animal. Apollo and Diana are also siblings.
Well...Diana pretty popular name, lol. And Apollo (the God), doesn't really have a association with birds. Not really the thing he's know for.
There's just countless things relating Apollo (the character), to America, and American things, that I highly, highly doubt his name is reference to the Greek God.
But we do need a villager that is a direct reference to like, Zeus, or something. Imagine a dog villager with a "storm" themed house or something. Or has those Greek looking posts in his house. Idk.

@@user-nw6di1fn2d Oh...that would just be impossible, lol. Also (this isn't confirmed), but I believe that there is only one Sprocket and one Ribot, and the numbers are just in order of when they created. So the other missing numbers, are different robot animals. That's how I always thought of it.
Pashmina also has a dark backstory to her name- a pashmina is a type of scarf that is made from goat fur, and pashmina is a goat villager
Fun fact: the original sheep was actually named Dolly after Dolly Parton since she was clone from breast tissue cells lol

One of my goals at the moment is to have my village be a monster mash, filled with the weirdest villagers possible. I've already got Lucky the mummy, Hopkins the inflatable bunny, Zucker the takoyaki, as well as Coco and Drago. I've also got Ankha, but while she is my favorite villager I haven't quite decided if she is weird enough yet.

Ankha could be a reference to King Tut and a lot of the people who opened his tomb got cursed so maybe that could be a justification for having her. I recommend Del because he’s a boat.
Listen, you can't understimate the amount of puns found in the Spanish translation for the game. Like, the translators REALLY went all out, they had the time of their lives.
-Both Isabelle and her brother Digby have names that reference the fact they are dogs: Canela (meaning cinnamon) and Candrés (from the given name Andrés) are puns on "can", a word that means dog.
-Mabel and Sable were named Pili and Mili after two famous actresses that happened to be twins.
-Sahara's name is an actual word (albeit a very infrequent one): Alcatifa (which is a Spanish word of Arabic origin meaning a very fine rug)
-Flick's name is Kamilo, which is a given name (Camilo) similar to the word camaleón (chameleon in Spanish) but with a K so it sounds more punk and alternative.
-Jingle is called Renato, a given name that acts as a pun on his species (reno in Spanish)
-Timmy and Tommy are Tendo and Nendo, which are references to...you guessed it, Nintendo.
-Blanca (same name in other european languages) is a girl's name that means white. As in...the colour white and the fact she is "en blanco", meaning, blank.
-Lottie's name has the same pun in Spanish: the name Nuria becomes Nutria( otter) adding a t.
-Wendell is called Da Morsi, a pun on morsa (walrus) and Da Vinci (being an artist and all that...)
-My favorite one is Paquito, a duck. In Spanish, little duck/duckling is "patito" and Paquito is a varian of the name Paco, so it ends up being "Paquito the patito" and that is super cute.

Thanks for these! The facts are so interesting. As a bonus, Gladys is a reference to a Japanese story about how a young man saved a crane which ended up turning into a human lady. To repay his kindness, she made cloth for him from her own feathers to sell to the emperor (the man was very poor). That’s why Gladys has the kimono and loom in her house. :)

Yes indeed. I like Julian a lot, but Phoebe is so so so underrated! I was always bound to like her as I love phoenixes. Hans is pretty cool, I wouldn’t hunt for him but if he moved in I would like him
When you're on Harv's island and you pick up Sprocket there is a weird noise that sounds like metal moving, and I couldn't hear it when I picked up my other villagers.... Not sure if I imagined it
I believe all 3 of the robot villigars make metal sound. I have Del and when he walks around i can hear it. So you weren't imaging it. Hope this helped

Yeah she might have been named after that, but she's a gyroid. Back when gyroids where a thing, she had a bunch of them in her house.
same, depictions of coconuts have those 3 holes that look like two eyes and a mouth, plus her texture looks more like a coconut than a gyroid.

Another fact: if you scan a QR code of a horned hat or non horned hat you’ll be able to wear them in new horizons. You’ll need new leaf if you want to make your own but I found other ways.

Neat tidbit about the three robot villagers: they have a unique, metallic walking sound. It can be tough to hear with all the ambient noise, but it's a nice touch to add some depth to our villager friends who are a little different.
Patty the cow is also supposed to be a reference to a "cow patty", meaning cow poop lmao. Poor Patty. I've also always thought that in addition to Drago being a dragon, his name might be a reference to dressing in drag, since it looks like he's wearing lipstick.
I thought it meant a burger Patty lol.
And here I thought Bow and Meow were based off tamagotchis

Honestly, in my opinion most of the German names in game are so unrelatable. It's like the translator simply picked old fashioned, boring names totally at random 😣😠

My personal favorite villager fact is Kiki being based on Gigi from Kiki’s Delivery Service in the English translation, something that I thought was super clever.
No. 7 definitely explains why Patty is a peppy villager.
Nana the monkey's name is based off the Ice climber Nana from the Nintendo game Ice Climber. It also explains why her catchphrase is Popo (Nanas Climbing partner). It's also a reference to Ba"Nana".

-Nan and Chevre have a picture of each other in their houses in reference to a Japanese nursery rhyme
-Apollo and Whitney may have dated
-Graham has a pic of Francine and Chrissy in his house cause he's a fan of bubblegum K.K.
edit: I have Chevre, Apollo, Whitney and Coco. Used to have Graham but I didn't like him and one day I looked in his house, saw the pictures really high up on the wall and got a little creeped out

another fact/easter egg that not many people know about is about the villagers Chevre and Nan. there house are exact mirror opposites of each other in black and white. i think it may be based off a japanese nursery rhyme about a white goat and a white goats letters, it goes like this:

Fun Fact: Weber the lazy duck villager is named after the webbing of duck feet and is possibly named after Carl Maria von Weber, a German composer from the 1700s. Further backed by the instruments in his house.
