They also have polymer brad nails if you don't want to worry about hitting them later when cutting down material. I use them for cnc hold downs so I don't have to stress a cutter hitting a nail.
I've had good luck gluing up my staves as full boards then ripping the staves down on the bandsaw. One 6.25"-6.5" wide single glue up yields six 7/8" stave cores.
That’s quite an undertaking! You will be a door expert when this project is in the rear view mirror. Looking forward to seeing the door assembly. Kudos for taking this one on!
My local lumber dealer sells stile cores, 1-3/8 x 4-1/4” 10’ long for $25 each. Pretty sweet price to skip all that milling. Still debating buying or building my interior doors, but those being available sure makes me want to take it on myself
Hey I just finally got to watch the video and those doors are gonna be great!! I hope that your nursing all those fir splinters good, lol. Just kidding 😅 but I'm laughing from my experience. Fir is at the top of my favorite woods. The smell when you cut it............😊
I wonder if the glue up of 4 would have been smoother if you did 4 but instead of in a row, you put them in as 2 stacks of 2? Or, maybe even 1 stack of 3? I hope to have one of those vac bags soon - game changer!
I was wondering if you could accurately price this part of the job ? I hv done some doors with tenons and being picky about grain ( they were exterior doors). Almost 6 yrs later they are still there looking fine. My Dad built custom exterior doors on a table saw all “ straight grain “ Doug Fir . This looks like a really solid door material & with the right finish would make a beautiful exterior door ! Just amazing work Josh !

Any concerns about the thickness of the veneers and moving against the substrate? Some of the reddit psychopaths get really upset about anything over an 8th. I have made plenty thicker myself with no issue, but there seems to be a lot of opinions out there.
I love seeing your process! I’ve been following you on IG for years, glad to see you on UA-cam and I wish you success!
@@garrettlewis2845 thanks for following along
If we're not making mistakes..we're not learning. Looks like a lot going into producing those doors..nice work!
You’re right about that dude.
Yeah a lot of work has gone into these. But it’s been fun. A nice change from building cabinets.

Another good idea. I’ll have to pick some up.
Nice work! I too have found out the hard way that it never hurts to make one extra "just in case" while you have your machinery set up.
Yeah for sure
Scary stave work on the jointer, please use a pusher block! Great video. Looking forward to the rest.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching. Part two next week

I’ve never used a vacuum bag. Or a large door like this. LOL. Interesting to watch.
Thanks for watching

Hahaha dude the splinters are horrible working with this stuff
I woulda been lazy and just planed that bad veneer off the core and re-veneered it xD thx for sharing!
oh nvm just remembered you used nails xD that kinda nixes that
Yeah unfortunately it’s put nails in it. I’m going to break into short lengths for rails and resaw that veneer off
Great video as always
Thanks. I appreciate that
Amazing.
Thanks

Yeah that would probably work
Man how’d you clean the rollers on those glue bucket-rollers? lol mine dried!
Nice re saw tip
lol. Got to clean them right away with hot water

I’ve seen people shrink wrap those glued up styles or maybe a few wraps of painters tape but I think shrink wrap would be better
Yeah I started wrapping them in plastic
Could you stack them ontop of each other instead of beside so the bag doesn’t pull them?
Yeah that might work
What size did you dimension the popular staves for both size doors?
1 1/4” for the thick doors. 7/8” for the thinner doors

I’m not worried about it. The shop I used to work at we always made the veneers 1/4”
Why didn’t you just plane the veneer off the stave , to save the stave?
I’m going to try resawing it off and cutting it into shorter lengths for some rails
14:25 im having a heart attack watching you put your hand on the back of that board over the jointer. Just asking to become hamburger.
Yeah
