I was looking at rings the other day. I was torn between,some amethysts,and rose quartz. Then there was one iolite ring in the store's vast collection of rings. I chose the iolite,bc I love it,and because I didn't have a single piece of iolite jewelry in my collection.
Now knowing all this,I can appreciate it even more. The blue violet color is like the night sky. It's beautiful,and what a fascinating history! Those 2 of my favorite subjects: gemology and history,I like how they go together,here!

When I first bought Iolite they called it a water sapphire.
That's right! It's also known as a "Vikings Compass" because it's said that Vikings would use thin slices of Iolite to locate the exact position of the sun on overcast days during their expeditions.
I have mineral looks like carbonado but i suspected as iolite because it has a density of 2.57
