- DIY Solar ~ My progression of building a solar system from the beginning of 2020 to now & everything in between.
Surprisingly exceptional results from this brand. Will also do lithium's, so those 12v lith's that aren't designed to balance evenly in series strings will likely perform nicely with this balancer.
i got an HC02 equalizer and am impressed as well!! seems to help tremendously.
Thanks for the video. I was looking into a battery equalizer.
I am setting up a 48v battery array. 4 banks of four batteries. 16 batteries total.
I guess I will need a separate equalizer for each bank of 4 batteries. The 4 banks will be hooked up in parallel at the ends of each string.
Great test ! thank you. but how much power does this balancer consume and is it negligible to the benefit ?
It really depends on the degree of imbalance between the batts. The more difference, the more it will consume. Just as an example, before I connected that batch, my charging meter would usually 0 out when all the batts were charged but now I've seen it as much as 15+ amps before the bank is fully charged which of course means those balancers used 15 amps to maintain balance but for a bank that size, that's nearly insignificant. However, when there's no charging those balancers will still be working to maintain equality & that means you'll lose some amps until charging resumes but unless you go long periods of time without charging, my estimation is the loss is not much to worry about unless you got some really out of wack batts.
How has it been doing since and did you buy more of them as you mentioned? I have 4 12v 100ah batteries (same spec, manufacturer) and found them today at voltages of 10.54v, 12.57v, 13.1v and 13.1v. I've managed to get the worst one back to 13.6v resting and it took 105ah (nice). The 12.57v one is charging currently. I've been looking at just the device you tested in your video and as ever it's a mix of good and bad reviews, enough bad to sow doubt so I'm hoping that you did buy more and they all worked great. Also, did you have to disconnect the charge controller and inverters while doing this or can they coexist with the equalizer without issue? Thanks!
Yes I got what I needed to do my whole bank & last check they were all within .3v. It doesn't matter if the chargers or inverter is running to hook these up. I did have 1 batt that had such a bad cell in it, the equalizer just couldn't compensate but for batts with decent cells it works great.
Can you leave the equalizer connected full time including charge and discharge and does it equalize charging?
Yes, I have them permanently connected
Also can I get a honest review on the product did it do well after a year of it being used and also for a 48v two parallel strings system (i.e (12v x 4)x2 in series) do I need the 48v balancer two of it?
They're holding up fine so far. As far as doubling up sets of 48v strings & whether these can still do the job I can't answer.
You're basically going to wire two separate strings together if you use only one device.
Hello sir, these balancer for 4s 48V. what will happen if I connect only 3s to 36V? without connecting one pair of terminal. Is this still work correctly? what is your advice. thanks
I couldn't say for sure but I think it would work, only 1 way to find out is to try it.
Instructions on my HC02's say they work from 12 to 48v. Just leave the unused wires disconnected and protect the ends from coming in contact with anything else.
You can also parallel two banks together.
Thx for that info, didn't know that.@@fauxque5057
See the comment below yours, it looks like they'll work on 24 &36v configurations.
hello sir if may ask if is it safe to install that on 4 lead acid battery rated 12v and forget about it? or do i need to remove that after i equalize?
Leave them hooked up permanently otherwise they'll return to imbalance right away.
Mine gets warm to the touch is that normal? I'm using it as a 48v equalizer with 16 individual, 3.2v lithium ion batteries in series.
I'd say you're using it inappropriately. It sounds like you're trying to use as you would a bms. Using this on lithiums should only be used with 4 12v lith sets.
Same I am using it in 4 12 v lithium batteries
In series
okay, u put on the "Thing" and the voltages are equal in 1 sec? as an electronic, i can only shake my head.....
If you didn't have the attention span of a schlep, you would have seen it was a 20 min span. Geez some of you guys are embarrassing!
Do these equalizers keep the batteries balanced through the absorption stage or just the float stage? I've had similar equalizers, but they only worked during float, so during absorption, some batteries would still over charge.
They work constantly. The only reason it wouldn't keep all batts balanced is if 1 or more were really bad
Thank you for your informative video. I found the device on EBay and looked over the specifications, it said that it could draw up to 10 Amps to balance out the batteries. That would mean it handling 120 Watts although it is an active device. It seems a little small to be able to do that. When I compared it to the Victron battery balance unit which has a huge heat sink which in comparison only uses only 0.7 amps for balancing although is a passive device. Still something doesn’t seem to add up here.
It does what it says, you saw how fast it eq'd those batts. They do get quite warm if there's a large imbalance. & they're still working since I did this vid. I wouldn't touch any victron gear, way overrated & over priced. I've burnt up 3 victron chargers so far & they don't honor their warranty.
Is powmr better than hao2 brand?
I can't say, but the rumors I've heard is it's the same thing, just rebranded
