  • DIY Solar ~ My progression of building a solar system from the beginning of 2020 to now & everything in between.
    My 1st cabin solar furnace blasts out so much heat, I decided it was time to make another for my shed.

    I needed some fresh air in my small greenhouse but did not want to draw in cold air so i made small box to fit window I had 36”x36” window with 2x4 s used 6” duct with cheep 6” fan tossed in anything black kinda made some baffles so air would not go straight through and was amazed at temp difference 30 degrees above outside air 50 degrees = 80 inlet its amazing what you can do with the sun

    Thanks. Nice build and walk through. Please allow me to suggest never stepping on the very top of a step ladder, if I saw that correctly.

      That was an unnecessary comment. If I was a bumbling panzy I might listen. I've been on the top of ladders all my life with no issues. I can judge what's safe on my own, TY!

    By slowing down the fan a little, it would not cycle on and off. I suggest a rheostat for the fan motor. Great job.

    You should add a Dacron filter on the intake to keep the dust buildup out of the box.

    Nice job 👍 I'm sure you'll come up with a pivot version for sun tracking...lol.

      Not a chance & no need to, it's facing where it captures the sun from morning to the end of the day.

    I'd be drawing from the upper area and discharging to the lower area

    Would adding internal baffles increase the air distance traveled and heat it up more? Or are you generating enough heat as it is?
    Can you use acrylic instead of glass?

    • @HotRockCentral
      @HotRockCentral  2 місяці тому

      The incoming air is connected to a Y so it does a good job mixing the air thruout the box. Maybe baffles would improve it some but this keeps it less complex, fewer materials & lower cost.

    Need information on where you purchased the controller. I like the panel on the 4x4s to get it above the roof line. I need mine that high because of the shade of the trees behind the shop. Great video.

    I'm assuming that you block the intake and exhaust during the summer months. Is it safe to let the Temps rise during the hottest times of the year inside the box? Also have you thought about running a maze of copper pipe or pex line inside the box? This way it could be used to circulate hot water thru a water tank and be used all year round. Just my thoughts. I may tinker with this concept. Good job!

    • @HotRockCentral
      @HotRockCentral  Рік тому +5

      I have an electric butterfly valve I can open at the top if I don't need as much heat as it can do but in the summer I have a tarp over it & the butterfly valve open so it doesn't get too hot inside. As far as running pipe thru it, I did try that on another project & a video of it is up here but it didn't heat water very good 'cuz the blower is sending room temperature air thru the box & draws all the heat from pipes to be of any use however if I had another layer of glass over the pipes separating the air flow from the pipes, then that would likely work out ok & I may give that a try eventually & report the results if I do.

      You'll find a dual purpose water heater & furnace on another of my vids & all I do Is put a tarp over it when it's too hot to need it & in the middle of summer my eves block any sun from getting to it so it doesn't need covering at all then.

    Does the box have any metal in it or is it just painted wood? Do you have a build video?

    Nice project,but why you have choose to use wood?I mean wood will get the damage from the sun and snow,rain..?

    • @HotRockCentral
      @HotRockCentral  2 роки тому +1

      It's treated wood, it'll hold up fine once I slap some paint on it. What would you have used?

      @@HotRockCentral Well,maybe i would use aluminum profiles for partition walls,just paint them,they can last forever,i also plan to make one solar furnace.
