24:36 - Fun thing about Necromantic Selection is that it can steal commanders, because the board wipe effect and the reanimate effect are done all at the same time before state-based effects are checked. Players returning their commanders to the command zone is done when state-based effects are checked, which is after the resolution of a spell or ability.
I love Animatou because butterflies are my spirit animal. Moth's feel like their other half, a darker interpretation almost. And so moth's have always felt very spiritual to me, and Animatou channeling them around herself gives off such a strong aura to me. Love the content guys! Keep it up
My favourite part of Commander. Gabriel destroys Paul's card draw, then when Paul threatens Gabriel's card draw he's all "I just want to draw cards!" I can't say I haven't done that myself. 😄 Also, that's a sweet Aminatou figurine. As a commander, I enjoy her being all about the top deck and is more about manipulating that than being about card draw. As a character, being tuned into fate is such an interesting and unusual gift that you need to walk a fine line to keep it from being overpowered in the stories.
Rules thing: Single Combat says creature spells can't be cast till the End of the casting player's next turn, meaning Paul couldn't play Lazotep Chancellor when he did. Fun match as always, regardless!
It's such a difficult sweeper to run in a creature centric deck I was surprised to see it in BOTH White decks in a Typal clash. In the end it was somewhat inconsequential, I doubt Gabriel would survive Darryl's turn even without taking 4 damage from the Army that either wouldn't exist or would've been summoning sick.
Lovely game with bonus background Matt! This editing must be a nightmare with customers hanging around, although it's definitely a positive to see the shop running well! I'm always impressed with how Esmond weaves the ads into game relevant moments, and the progress bar is a nice touch. Love this playgroup!
Aminatou was my first ever commander :) I love how her miracle ability can allow me to cast crazy enchantments people otherwise wouldn't see get much play. The deck caused me to get hooked on MTG a few months ago, and there's no turning back! Would be cool to have a figurine to commemorate my induction into the never ending cardboard addiction.
Congratulations! You've won yourself the Aminatou figurine :) Drop an email to quintessentialmtg@gmail.com with your mailing details and we'll mail over your prize.
really love the idea for the everything counters, those 3d printed (I assume) E tokens are really cool and stand out. lol. omo is the deck I want to build next, it seems silly but also busted
Reading the card explains the card! EDIT: I think you guys would get a kick out of PrEDH. It's commander but before any commander product was released (so caps at like 2011?)
41:17 he had black blade reforged in hand and if i counted right he definitely had enough lands for it to pump Aurelia to one shot. I counted twelve lands in all and Aurelia is already 5 that would have made her 22. Am i missing something here?
Checking on the lists.... Interesting, so you guys do not destinct/look to match deck prices?... I know it depends a lot on the way the decks are built and their strategies..., but facts are the most expensive decks tend to be the most powerful..., that made me feel bad for Paul, you guys abused the budget player
It's more they don't impose any budget rules and I just build whatever I find is fun. The way i play is typically is to try to push the most simple version of a strategy i can think of which should be able to keep up with other decks at the table and the simple plan tends to be the cheapest.
@lazyliz7008 Disagree.... having played other sources of entertainment much more reliant on Skill (Mainly Video Fighting Games, like Street Fighter for example, which are 80%+ skill intensive), I don't consider TCGs to be competitive, is more like 50% pay to win (because some cards are just Better than others period, they have to keep selling) the superior cards and/or deckbuilt online, 25% game knowledge and/or skill (because cards can be soo good they carry you, Rystic Study anyone?), and 25% pray to RNGesus to save you... I like budget decks too, but they do require more money to be more efficient/powerful most of the time (I think that Most decks can be powerful w/out playing braindead cards at around 200-250 USD)... All of the above to say.., unless the Budget player draws perfect and is Un-Interrupted, that deck Won't Win
@@JaimeAGB-pt4xl Yeah i think once you hit 100-200 bucks the decks really start to get really efficient and consistent. But yes, my thought process when building this was just to use winddrake zombies to trigger Varina while starving card advantage. That's why i countered stuff like the sea-floor oracle and desparked the coat of arms to control the cards in hand. The budget was quite incidental. The deck did do very well though until the heroic reverberate. in retrospect probably should have used single combat first. Was happy with it.
@@lazyliz7008 Yes, I was really surprised by that First Zombie cast with Inspired, very neet tech to be honest. I always check in videos that showcase commanders I myself have to check on different takes or tech I was missing... And I agree that, even if the deck price/quality wasn't agreed in this table, Varina had a nice showing despite the deck price discrepancy... Ps: My username in Moxfield is JGBpro88 in case you want to check my built or other decks I have
Matt busy working in the background is the cherry on top of this episode. I hope he gets to play on the next one!

Oh damn, good to know! I doubt he would have taken my commander anyway 😅
@@QMTG Probably not, but I've had that happen to me in the past. 😅

I love the randomness of our gurl Aminatou!
That reverberate was probably my favorite part of the episode. 😂
good to see the Chosen one again. Merry Christmas guys (in 24 days)
Same to you!
Aminatou is the creepy child archetype and the powerful child archetype rolled into one!

Another fun video. Great to see the return of the Chosen One! Gotta like the cheeky splashes in these kindred decks XD

Thank you!
Gabriel never stood a chance with a member deck like that ;-)
Hahaha suuuure. Nah it was a great showing though, he was a huge threat for a significant portion of the game. Hope you enjoyed it :)
FINALLY A NEW VIDEO WOOO
Yooo yeah it's been a while hahaha

Hahaha thanks! Yeah it's silly and honestly doesn't function at all without Omo, but can definitely feel busted once it gets going
I love aminatou, cuase its nice to have a proper miracle commander. The top deck and blink is so much fun.

I've been thinking of doing an episode featuring decks from different eras!
