    What is most impressive is the lack of reaction to a fastball straight to the chest. But yes, I believe Ump was trolling that catcher a bit on this one.

    • @rileyesmay
      @rileyesmay 3 роки тому +19

      Most definitely. The umpires line up on the inside of the plate, so that was a fastball maybe 2 or 3 inches inside of the plate, and the catcher couldn't even catch it. Like you have 1 job, and your getting a scholarship for that? As an umpire I probably would have trolled him even longer because its pretty funny when the catcher misses balls they should have caught and cant find them

    It’s not “umpire interference,” it’s a “lodged ball in the catchers equipment/paraphernalia or the umpire’s equipment/paraphernalia.” Umpire Interference sends the runners back to the bases they occupied at the time of the pitch IF a runner is not retired on a play-attempted play by the catcher. This is a base award to the runners for a ball that goes out of play.

      great analysis of actual baseball rules. I love Jomboy but if fans were actually educated on the rules, they wouldn't hate on umpires so much. Fans and commentators more than likely have never read a word from an official rulebook.
      ball goes out of play (including lodging in umpires gear) from a pitch, each runner is awarded one base.

      In my high school game the ball got stuck in the wired fence at eye level and we had a guy on third. Fairfield won their first 27 games before they suffered their first loss. It took them their first 25 before they were finally ranked in the Top 25 because of their rather weak schedule and that every one of their games at the time except for one was against conference opponents. But I'm happy they still reached the baseball tournament and even won at least 1 game before their elimination.

  • @garygemmell3488
    @garygemmell3488 3 роки тому +4

    I had this happen to me once. You can't actually feel the ball going into the pocket because it happens so fast after impacting the chest protector. You also can't feel the ball's weight tugging on the shirt because the chest protector is between your undershirt and the pocket. The catcher saw it about 5 seconds later.

    Was at the Game. This was the NCAA Austin Regional, Game 5 (both were 1-1 facing elimination). Sitting behind the play it was clear the ball didn't go to the backstop and appeared the catcher was trying to fool the runner into advancing. Talk about being totally confused about what the hell was going on. After the game, had to look up the rules for clarification. The dead ball rule for umpire interference would not have advanced the runners. There is a specific rule regarding a thrown ball being stuck in equipment. That one does call for the runners advancing.

    For a second I thought he was gonna drop the ball and say, "Play on!"

    "Looks sketchy, no it is weird wild and cool." This sentence is exactly why I'm watching baseball again, it's good for the brain.

    Wow. The ball grazes the bottom of the catcher's mitt giving the ball just enough downward angle and top spin to dig into the pocket.

    I've seen that happen before in cricket but this is the first time i've seen it in baseball.

    Literally the day after this happened a ball was missed by the catcher and went right into the umpire's pant pocket and everyone didn't know where it was

    “I don’t understand it, I don’t understand the science of it.” Even though I was thinking the same thing, I laughed so hard when he said that.

    Love how the ump is looking around like he doesn’t know where it is

    A couple years ago in a scrimmage my friend on the other team was wearing a sweatshirt, and the ball was thrown directly into the pocket. When the catcher and ump looked around he casually pulled it out and handed it to the catcher.
