The cable on our 2013 Sienna Driver side door snapped this morning... found this video, called the dealer and for about $50ish, picked up the cable today after work and did this repair in a little over an hour. Thanks for the video!! Well done and saved me some $$$.
Glad that it helped!
this just happened to my 2013 Sienna the past month too lol. it must be about that time, 10+ yr mark
Lexus tech here, your video is a godsend 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Wow, thanks!
Thanks Mr. Mike for this guide. You saved me lots of time and effort. Cheers!
Wow thanks!
Fast and easy explanation. Thanks for not wasting time with unnecessary nonsense.
You are the man,how easily you have explained this difficult process. Great job,may Allah bless you and your family. Love from Brampton Ontario.
Very helpful. Saved me $300. Thank you.
You're welcome!
This video was excellent. I'm a mom of three young kids and I've never worked on a vehicle before. My van door broke, I found this video later that day and ordered the parts from the description box. and I was able to install the new cable in about an hour over nap time. Thank you!
Thank you for posting this!!! Just finished repairing my wife's Sienna following your instructions - super easy. 🙏
thanks a ton for this video! We had a 2015 sienna with a snapped cable. The dealership said it was covered under some sort of bulletin, but I opted just to replace it myself and not have the downtime of 2 days. Part was $90 CAD and it took me 45 mins to replace.
One tip: The rear window trim piece can just bent bent back - plug it in first when you have slack in the cable, and then you don't need to remove the clip or the trim. Then plug the door side in.
Def worth having a small or low profile ratchet, or an angled elbow to get into the tight spots.
Thanks for the links to Amazon parts, a better deal than factory even with my business discount
"i know you UA-camrs"
Loved that line, 😂 cause I've definitely done that with car videos before, stopping the video early because I'm pretty sure I've "got it from here" and been wrong.
Also, Loved seeing the kids, it was very cute and wholesome seeing them help their dad out.
Last thing, really great video, very concise into the point, and straight forward on how to do everything.
Keep up the great work
Thank you! I found I only needed to pry the rear end moulding up to remove the back anchor instead of removing/breaking it. Also helped when I started with the rear anchor. I didn’t need to remove the bracket that way. End with the 90° anchor since there’s just enough slack to snap it into place as the last step.
Thank you for walking me through the steps without music and fluff!
You are a LEGEND my friend! Gonna order the replacement cable soon! Thanks again!
Thanks, nice and clear. Now I'm overconfident and ready to break something else!
Whatever you break, I'll be here with a video to show you how to fix it! Happy Wrenching!
This is the best video I have found yet! Thank you so much.
Thanks so much for the informative video. I was able to fix the broken cable on my 2014 Sienna. You were absolutely correct on the rail molding piece breaking! I tried my best and it broke. I used your link to get my replacement.
Did you take off the protective plastic before putting on the motor? I didn't realize until I saw another video. Now I'm a little worried
@@babyshaya I assume you are talking about the white plastic piece on the new pulley? If that’s the case, leave that plastic piece on. It totally looks like a protective piece but it’s not, it’s part of the pulley. Leave it on. Good work!
@@salbass7567 thanks bro. I feel better now. There are others on UA-cam that took it off. When I put it in, it clicked perfectly so I assumed it was perfect.
I took some time to brainstorm the rail molding not to break and found a solution. Just pull the bottom out just enough to finagle the anchor out and the new one in. Didn't even need to unbolt the anchor point let alone take off the panel completely
After seeing this video I decided to order the cable and attempt to replace it. It was not fun, but with your video I was able to get it all apart and it works great. Thank you very much. (04 Sienna passenger side cable)
Great to hear!
Just finished installing on opposite door. All excellent tips. Thanks so much for posting!
Worked great! Thanks for showing! Took about 2 hours start to finish. The last part you unscrewed below the window is actually not necessary if you hold off attaching the cable inside the door. Was also able to get the window piece off without snapping the plastic. Happy it worked so well! Thanks again!
Mine snapped yesterday. Gonna order me a new one and tackle it. Thanks 👍
UPDATE: So I bought the cable from Toyota and started to follow these directions up until I started the back panel for the rear anchor. I figured out a way to not break the panel and not even a need to take anything out!
All I did was not put in the front anchor so that I'd have some slack, pull pulled the door back, unbuckle the lower part of the panel only. The anchor cable would need to be cut, pull the lower part of the panel just enough to get your fingers into it, use a screwdriver to push the one side of the clip, fenagle your finger and push out the anchor.
It's just enough empty space to hold the anchor to pull out. Since you have tons of slack on the new anchor, you slide it up, fanagle it back into the empty area on the left, then slide it into the anchor by pulling the cable.
I was so happy I didn't need to break the panel. You can put the front anchor back in because there's some spring slack but I didn't want to damage anything just in case. I used my 10mm to release the front anchor holder since those two bolts are ridiculously exposed, locked the anchor in, held it in place to bolt it back on. That's it!
I really hope this makes it so much easier for everyone else!
Super helpful, thanks a ton!
Thanks for posting this video. I like your energy and how you let your kid help. Super cool.
Thanks man! Sometimes in the shop, we are no longer fixing things, but raising young men!
Just found your video and just subscribed to your channel. I’m going to fix my wife’s 2011 Sienna passenger door. And thanks for posting all the tools and materials I need from Amazon. I will order them here shortly. Again, thank you for taking the time to film and edit and post this. And your son is luck to learn from his dad how to fix stuff!!
Golden video buddy ! You made this job look like there was really nothing to it ! Both of my cables broke like from 1 week from each other... So got to go fix that ! Thankx again !
Thanks for watching! Good luck on your fix
Thank you for helping me to fix 2011 Toyota sienna left side door!🙏
Provided me a wonderful walk-through and saved me a bunch of time. If you have a patron link comment with it.
Thank you for a very informative video. I am about to tackle this tonight on my 15 sienna
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Very helpful!
You're very welcome!
This video is phenomenal
Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
Thank YOU so much for this video.
You make it look easy, thanks for the info,
You bet!
Great video. I'll use it to fix a friends van. Also - sounds like you've got a polite kid!
Thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks for the video!! Now I’m having another issue. My 2014 Sienna driver side slinder only opens 5 inches or so. I noticed a metal latch with a cable on the floor where the slider runs. That metal piece with the cable has no tension and it will just flop up and down. When it’s flush to the floor , door works fine. When it’s up a little it catches. Do we know what that piece is? Thanks for any info
My van's cable just snapped in the AM dropoff line 😅. It had been grinding and making a horrid noise and then it just gave up. Thanks so much for this video.
Do you have one on replacing an AC unit that doesnt blow cool air as well? Asking for a friend....
Oh no! I'm confident that you can make this repair! Remember that you have another door to take a look at if things get mixed up.
I don't have any videos of working on vehicle AC units. But I'm sure you're just a UA-cam search away!
Awesome video, thanks a million , 👏👏 how can one get those replacement parts ?
Check description
I tooky van to get repaired after a minor collision and it came back with a defective passenger door. It won't open automatically by pulling the handle out BUT, it opens from the key fob and overhead button. It will also close automatically from the handle, key fob and button. It's bizarre. Think it could be the cable or something else?
Thanks so much for making this! Will this work for a 2008 sienna as well? Every other video I’ve seen, the person had to take the window out. Not sure if the newer models above 2008 don’t require that
I'm not sure. I know this procedure will work for 2011 to 2018 models
will this apply to 2020 sienna (canada) thanks
It should work for models with the year 2011 to 2018
bro and for sienna 2008 the sliding door cable is different! "Which do you recommend for 2008?"
I have 2008. just found a video looks the same halfway through it now. If the parts are that expensive, I'm just going to leave it. I got the door to latch now by removing the broke cable end by door handle. it will be bunched up keeping other part from moving properly. The channel is "The Car Care Nut" video name is "Toyota Sienna Sliding Doors | Why This Door Cost $1800+ To Repair? Everything You Need to Know" hope this helps. these guys are great that take the time to make videos. good luck
Yes, please note the description, this is for 2011-2018 year models.
I had mine done under warranty long time ago. It broke again. Now I know. Did you buy OEM or aftermarket parts? Did you clean then lube it with white lithium grease?
I bought OEM parts. I’ll leave the choice of cleaning and lubricating up to you.
Always buy OEM parts, yes clean then use lithium grease, it works the best for rods and cables..
Where is you shop?
Grand Haven, MI
Do you have the part number for just the cable? Everyone is trying to sell me the whole motor assembly for over $600.
Check the description. It’s $45 on Amazon
How much should it cost to replace it at a mechanic?
I would imagine that a dealer or mechanic would want close to $1,000 for this repair.
$700 with tax at dealer.
Please tell me, my door opens automatically, but doesn’t want to close. It’s as if something is holding it and doesn’t allow it to close automatically, so you have to close it manually. What could be the problem? Has anyone encountered such a problem?
For how easy it is to take the door panel off, do that and see if there’s anything getting stuck in the way.
I just pay 302 dollars for my van door😢😢😢
Always check UA-cam first!
And please remove the baby from the van.
