Pete, your demo of great clean tones is something that is not demoed much. We usually you get high gain and all dirt you can stand. I salute you! Please do more.
Hey Pete! Subbed!! I've been using Line 6 units/boards since the POD 2.0 for like the last 15 years.. Where I play we cannot have stage volume and there are no isolated cabinets for amps, so i have been a very loyal dedicated user of Line 6 units. It makes me happy to see someone such as yourself give some credit to how awesome the Helix is. Just a quick tip, while you are fiddling around with trying to find the right cabinet/mic, use the looper so it can play on its own while you tweak it to your likings! Cheers!
Hi Spike... Thank you for subbing... Units like this are great for all the in ear gigs.. Great tip with the looper, haven't yet used this so much so any tips are welcome.. Best P
Thanks for this video. I recently got a Helix, and now I'm faced with having gear that does more than I do. You make good sound, Pete, so I appreciate both the "how to navigate the gear" tutorail, but also being shown a process to make a good chain.
In the market for multi effects modeler and this is the video I needed. Makes a ton of sense and will literally model my analog pedalboard once I buy this. Thanks for great information.
THANK YOU THANK YOU BRO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got a Helix 3 days ago, have toyed with it a little..... I've watched several long videos to get familiar.... but nobody did what YOU are doing...... thanks! now...... I have to program my ENTIRE nights songs, create a program for EVERY song.... very exciting!
I just got the helix a couple of days ago and I have been having problems with creating a preset even after watching quite a few videos yours was the most detailed and I had no problem creating one after watching it thanks
Thanks for demo-ing a good clean tone with the amp/cab sims. I been hunting through demos for several hours. This is the first I have found, so thank you.
That’s what I like to see , technology made for dummies, the best video on the helix so far. It’s great to see someone go through what may be easy for most people but confusing for others . Let’s get the basics down first. Thanks for this great video and keep expanding on others features of the helix. I’m old school and have a hard time getting into new technology.
This is the most useful Line 6 Helix video on UA-cam. No endless yammering or metal mania. I've had my LT for a very long time but have been too intimidated by its learning curve to commit to it but I watched this video and created my preset while following along. The very next night I played a full set using nothing but my Helix and an FRFR cab for one of the best shows I've ever had. Much thanks, Pete! P.S. Would love to see an update video showing some new tricks and advice.
Peter very helpful, will do my first preset on the Helix now….using my Powercab Plus. Need a direct amp in the room sound to cut though the band…Cheers
I'm a little late to this Video... I've been kicking around the idea of a Helix & this might have just helped me make up my mind on getting one!!! good work there sir, you made it look fun!!!
I've had my helix for a few weeks now, I like the effects and amps ok but the routing and versatility are where it really shines. If you can think it, it will probably do itSnap shots are very cool also as you can change any parameter on any block per snapshot so its like being able to not just turn off and on effects but also change settings slightly or massively - crazy amount of control
Would love to hear the helix through a P.A. Bit hard over the internet I know, but given this would be a common way of using it, it would be great to assess how it sounds. Great work Pete, love your channel.
Hi Pete I enjoy seeing you on videos. I saw you when a line 6 representative was trying to convince you to go helix. He showed you had to create a patch and then I watched this one. I was hesitant to get the helix worried about creating a patch....but no more and so I bought the helix and it’s on its way! I know you mentioned about impulse downloads but mention that can lead to a rabbits ::::, however can you show us how to do it or down load a patch that someone else created That would be awesome Thank you so..... Thanks again for taking the time to teach us to creat a patch. Kotos to you :)
Sorry to hear that, I hope it all goes well and you have a speedy recovery. Rate the Helix from 1 to 10... Well, there is only one thing I would like it to do and that was to add more amps and cabinets and the presets needs tweaking, so 9.... Hope that helps. Best P
Really great demo. I've had the Helix for about a year and it still amazes me on a daily basis. Always something new you can do. Please share the patch on the Line 6 Custom Tone site!
Great vid Pete. I’m just about to get one of these and this helped me make my mind up, coming from someone who has the same opinions as me on tubes and pedals etc. Cheers
Fantastic sound Pete, now if you could do another video showing how to get the same sound out my Amplifi 75 then I'll stop thinking Paul Hindmarsh conned me into buying it :) keep em coming and hurry up and do Danish Pete meets the captain
Cool toy. I’m sure I could loose several hours in there? Still like my amp, and the few effects that I use. I can get scattered easily, so less is more for me.
Good sound..... first Helix video I have seen with the effects before the amp, though. I always put them after, or between amp n cab. Between is like an FX loop. After is like the effects being applied 'at the board'
I like all my effects in the front of the amp... I have always used vintage amp that doesn't hve effects loops so its how I would naturally do it :-). Best P
@@andrewjackson829 because he has the mods before the amp and cab....just odd. I like it, but I like my mods after the poweramp stage. I couldn't buy an amp without an FX loop now. Also, I prefer verb after the cab to get a more....studio....quality verb.
pete i know this is old video but i need a help with expession pedal ,bought helix last week and its really stiff amd there is a key inside the box ,can i adjust the pedal and make it lighter ? thanks
Correct me if i am wrong but if you rearrange the footswitches, your signal path stays the same.. in order to move an effect block to another location you have to move it using the action button.. Fascinating player though, you sir have my sub
Did you prefer helix or kemper? In terms of sound quality and ease of use? I’m definitely a tube amp and pedals but I’m finding stage volume a problem, well not me, but the sound engineer! So need to look into an alternative. But it has to be dead simple and great tone!
Great video; nice of you to create it- such great and useful detail. Also, many top international rock and other touring bands are using Helix and others boards as effects processors. Obviously you could create a patch to act as a primitive IEM system, but there are probably better systems for that (and finally some are even reasonably priced). If you bought one for effects and such, or as part of a Variax workflow, then why not try it for IEM, but I never considered that as a primary market/use. It is interesting that you associate it with quiet (no monitor wedge) stage work, as I have never thought of them from that perspective- how did you come to that as a primary use?
would the best idea to start your programming be to insert the amp model to run the effects through while choosing them? may be simple, and i'm considering going this way for small gigs where my valve amp can be left out and my much larger pedal board. just know i'm going to get a headache with the programme side of it.
Hey Pete, cool video! I learned a lot, thanks! Do you think you could add a built in looper to this preset and demo that like you do with your ditto pedal? I'm a big fan!
Stupid question but with this device could I somehow switch between multiple effects with one hit of a button? Like assign multiple effect for the verse and different effects for the chorus? You know?
Can this be run directly into studio monitors? Is there anything wrong with doing that? I'm trying to figure out a quiet small setup for my home office.
Hi Pete, I’ve not read the notes yet, but what are the Dynaudio speakers you’re using? I’m thinking of moving totally virtual, but I’m wondering about the what monitors would work...and I want to copy your tone 🙂
Great playing as always Pete! I haven't tried Helix yet but the "cheaper" Line 6, Zoom and Boss multi pedals I have plugged into through a PA optimistically hoping to get a good sound have had me reaching for my Vox AC10 with a mic in front and a couple of nice pedals and getting that response from the guitar and strings that seems to disappear from the multi boxes. Does the Helix give you that feeling or get close? I know I have watched the Kemper demo with the Captain and know some of this may be imagination, but I went in with an open mind to try and do a gig through the PA with a box on the floor and the tiny Vox AC10 mic'd won hands down for me and the band listening. Not sure for the audience!
Just try the free IR's from ownhammer and the free pack that Line 6 advertised in the 2.0 update. No rabbit hole required. Just a handful of great sounding IR cabs that do sound a mile better (to my ears) than the stock cabs. I love the Helix though. No doubt. Digital is HERE!!
Thank you for the video. I'm not sure I like the dirt pedals. Could you make a comparison nobody else has done? That is compare the Helix dirt pedals into a tube amp and real analog dirt pedals directly into the same tube amp (not in the Helix loop).
Hi Peter, thanks for the video! Do you think the Helix would work for my following idea: I want to give up to 40-50 students at least 3 different customised settings, say clean, crunch, more gain. How would they choose their 3 settings easily? Can I have like 40-50 user banks, every bank having those 3 settings? And would it be easy for the students to switch to their bank (without clicking thru 40 other banks in every lesson)?
Excellent demo. Quick question... @25:29 "How does it sound if i swap them around", but then you appear to only swap the assigned switches, does that also shuffle the signal path too ? If not it presumably sounds exactly the same.
Pete, your demo of great clean tones is something that is not demoed much. We usually you get high gain and all dirt you can stand. I salute you! Please do more.
TJ Nugent Pete plays more like I do I’m glad he did this review, you can hardly find blues rock tones of the helix
@@Jeepjones85 yup I play blues and rock and love this demo of cleaner tones
Thanks for this. I bought the helix this weekend but got immediately confused. This has been really helpful.

Sounded amazing Pete. Yamaha should get you signed up as their Line 6 guy!
Really enjoying your videos Pete, super cool playing too!
Excellent tutorial, Danish Pete! Subbed. I just picked a Line 6 Helix up. Great tool. Replaced my pedalboard and amps for a fly rig.
Thank you for completely demystifying the Helix. A great rudimentary instruction video!
Great demo Thank you for posting. You rock as always. Scott
nice vid! the only tiny thing, touching the 2 buttons to switch them only switch button assignment not the signal chain position ...
i love your style of playing for demos. it gives me a perfect reference for my sound. no need for heavy metal high gain palm muting lol

36:15 sweet spot. Love that tone, especially with those bends above the 12th.

Brand New (Just opened the box) to the Helix. This was a fantastic intro video, especially for pedal and amp novices like me... Thanks Peter!!!
It's an insane unit. You can essentially do anything you want with it. If you can save the money for it, its definitely worth it.
Nice video! So glad you decided to do a video on the Line 6 Helix #amazeballs 😂😂 looking forward to the next one Pete!
I really appreciated this video, I also love my Tube Amps but like you, I really love the Helix and also learning how to use mine, such a fun system.

Pretty cool how it all hits the front of the amp. Just proves that there is no "right" way to do it.
Yes Adam, you are "Wright"
:)
Adam Wright why is that unusual? All pedals go in the front, except modulation pedals. So dirt pedals etc. go in the front.

Tim Stevens you have to press save...
Turn the hum off :D that is just awesome bet you guitarists have been looking for that option for a long time!
Isn't all the drives supposed to be before the amp and the modulation/Reverb/delay after? Wouldn't you put the amp and cab right before your volume?
