You're right, a government incentive to convert existing gas vehicles to electric would be incredibly smart and beneficial to all parties involved! However I regret to inform you that you have applied logic to a situation, and since this is government we're talking about- the application of logic is forbidden.

I've been saying these same things for over a decade now! There are so many cars that have been produced over the last century that it would only make sense to build conversion systems or even a universal conversion system for us who have the know how and desire. Why trash an old car because the old engine and trans is worn out? Update your old favorite and keep it on the road !
I agree completely, there needs to be a range of electric, bolt in conversion kits for existing vehicles. It is a dream I hope to see realized in the near future and not after I can no longer turn a wrench. Biden should set the example with an eVette.

I'm desperate to do an electric car project. Got two gasoline projects to finish off, so hopefully by the time they are done, there will be a viable electric conversion kit on the shelves.
I think the sweet spot would be ‘everything except the battery’ in your crate motor, that bolts up directly to my existing trans with an easy connection to the battery…and maybe a display for inside the vehicle that I can just plug in. I still want to run my manual trans. I want to put the batteries in the bed of my 69 C-10 and put a wood bed kit on top, and I want modular batteries where I can decide how much range I want to buy now…with the ability to add range later on (and the controller able to automatically configure itself for the additional batteries). I don’t want someone else to install it. I want to wrench on this myself. I think a diy kit like this would revolutionize the industry.

I really love the way you think. I will forever love old school big blocks and the smell of raw fuel ect.. but it would kinda be cool/funny to hagen2 giant Duracell batteries in the bed of the truck lol 😆😭🤪🤨

I'm OK with it not coming with batteries or a charger, but the controller is essential, and with it, the costs rise well above 10 grand. Also, it would be enough if the government made the manufacturers release software updates so that the electronic systems in their cars can work with the new motors.

Despite your motors being really cool and practical for conversion. The price is catastrophic. I wouldn't want to to an EV restomod until EV motors get close to gas engine prices.
Yes I agree. I think the aim would be about 20 grand for complete system , batteries chargers ect. after government incentives. But sadly even that is out of the question for a large percentage. Time will tel

this is merely my opinion : instead of giving rebates only for new EVs that one has to wait mths sometimes years to actually own, why not give the same rebates to ICE to EV conversions of old/current vehicles? you create jobs/work for workshops and EV converters and the waiting period is only as long as a successful conversion! so more jobs, less waste (re-purposing existing vehicles) and for DIY-ers a new skill set/knowledge picked up!
