  • William Dalrymple gave an introduction to his upcoming new book The Golden Road at a preview event in British Council where he was in conversation with Anirudh Kanisetti and said, "The book says that the Silk Road existed and was hugely important not until the Mongol period. Before that India was the fulcrum of International trade and commerce and with that comes the cultural dominance..."

Wonderful talk. Thank you Will. The point about different eras and periods of what has come to be called the Silk Road is very important. The map of Roman coin finds is very powerful. We know and are learning a lot about the Roman and Egyptian end of that trade but it would be wonderful to find Indian sources and more Indian perspectives on this trade. I don't mean later histories but contemporary works from the people and cultures involved in that trade.

We might not agree to certain views of his but we can never deny his historical reference and how ita narrated. Always does his job so neat and never fails to keep readers off the hook.
