    Unreal! 6months ago I was just about to pull the trigger on the bandsaw and the 3hp, sliding table and some BCT products, then my world turned upside down. Getting back up again and getting my first client as a wood worker, so many things are coming together and I dream about Harvey and BCT being the heart of my shop. Nothing else out there like it. My BCT I keep in their box and inside my workbench cabinet, not easily available to grab and if they were any other tool, not so readily available and a pain at times to grab, I forget about them. I absolutely love pulling them out and using them, they are the only thing in my shop that non woodworkers comment on

    As to the old style fence moving when locked down, if the user simply pulls the handle to the rear while traversing and setting the fence, it does not deflect when locked down. This is because the two pads at the front of the rail remain engaged. This is an old trick introduced by Norm Abram on the New Yankee Workshop decades ago. The Biesemeyer T-square design is not a defect. Simple geometry shows us that simultaneously engaging two of three of the points of contact on the rail will not allow the rail to move when the third point is engaged.

      Could you please explain this a bit more?

    • @jimgott119
      @jimgott119 5 місяців тому +1

      @@Follows-ed7mw the Biesemeyer style fence is locked to the rail by three contact points. Two on the side of the rail away from you and one on the handle side. This forms an equilateral triangle for secure lockdown. If you’re not pulling the handle back toward you when traversing the fence, none of these three points may be touching the rail, and the small amount of built-in slop that allows the fence to move right and left lets the fence get out of square very easily. It comes into square when you lock down the handle because all three points are engaged. Now if you pull the handle back toward you when traversing the fence, the far two points are held tight to the rail and the fence maintains square at all times, and it will not deviate when you lock it down bringing the rear point of the triangle into the rail by clamping down the lever. It’s basic geometry, really.

      Still doesn’t solve the problem of deflection at the far end of the fence away from the locking mechanism. Though minimal it does move.

    I have the Harvey Alpha 36 with the Master Rip fence. I don't really have a problem with deflection when locking, I learned how to set my fence with years of using a Biesemeyer on my Delta Contractor table saw. I like many of the improvements on this fence. Having those settable stops would be a real help when you are repeatable rip cuts that you can't make all at the same time.
    Sadly, one thing missing from this video is a new feature your website mentions that the old fence cannot do - that is work on either side of the blade. With my old saw and the Biesemeyer fence I could easily move it to the left of the blade ... something I miss on my Harvey. It would have been nice to see how it works and how easy/hard it is to set it to work on the left side of the blade.
    I really like my Harvey and it has been serving me well - but, with the cost of the saw and the price of this fence system, I will have to stay with my Master Rip unless you want to send me a Big Eye to test out.

    I now have the Big Eye on my Alpha HW 110S table saw. It does not roll smoothly across the table. There is no drag from the fence because no part of the fence itself is touching the table. It is so stiff the micro adjust wheel does not work. It just turns in place. I'm reasonably sure the rollers need to be adjusted on the guides but I don't want to adjust it without some type of video or instruction to show me how for fear of making it worse and not being able to fix it. I have not been able to find anything on the net to show how to do this. Please help.

    Hi. Amazing and beatifull design products. Dream tools.
    Questions:
    1. How do you prevent the scale don't wear and move in time accidentaly, and the dust don't go between the low or high stop of the scale?
    2. Have you try a little desmultiplication for the fine adjusting wheel? (maybe it's gona give you more precision and required less effort to ajust. 😉)
    3. Have you consider to offering your products in South America? (Argentina or Chile for example)
    Thanks you for your time and amazing and inspiring tools. 🙂

    This is a beautiful fence with many nice improvements, but as far as I can tell the T-Square/Biesemeyer style fence has one advantage: we build custom outfeed tables to be completely flush to back edge of our saws with HP laminate to make a perfectly smooth co-planer transition that no material can ever snag on. It looks like Redeye requires a small space between outfeed table and back of saw so back of fence can clamp.

    Great video and great fence! Does this fence work with an outfeed table? my current fence has the outfeed table which sits on top the front rail, but since it my fence does not lock to the front rail and sits on top of it, the outfeed table is flush to the saw table top with no gap. Im assuming because this fence locks on the front rail there has to be a gap at least the thickness of the front locking mechanism?

    I can see multiple comments on that this fence will become a standard on new table saw purchases. A) are you able to give a rough time frame? and B) I am based in Australia, so will this become a stardard for us too? if so when do you hope to get them out to us by?
    Been really keen on getting this table saw, but the fence has been a let down, but this should change now.

    Very interested in what you have created. I have a few questions. Will the SawStop outfeed table still be attachable/usable? I read in another comment the Jessem feeders aren't usable with this fence. Is that accurate? In one of your videos Harvey states this needs to be mounted to a cast iron table. Is this from end to end, or may the table at the blade be cast iron and the table to the right of the fence be some other material?

    I have been using a biesemeyer style fence for 30 years. It has been very durable and accurate. The high low fence would be nice but I don’t see any real advantage over a heavy duty biesemeyer fence. The biesemeyer locks extremely secure in the front and does not deflect on the far end. Installed the Jessem stock guides and they are a game changer cutting large panels. The new miter gauge does look good.

      I wish Harvey sold their saws without the gadgety fence. I know from experience that the sliding tape measure is really cool until it isn't. I won't buy INCRA anything because of the sliding tapes they use. They creep gradually or get bumped when you aren't looking and will be off a smidge and you'll scratch your head wondering what you did wrong. I'd like to see how this new fence works after a couple buckets of sawdust have settled on it. It's like Harvey has some smart people, but they don't actually use the products they sell. I use jigs that ride/slide on my fence and that whole setup is worthless to me. I'm still using a 50 year old PM 66 and if it had a decent riving knife, I'd probably just get another similar one. I keep looking at the Harvey and it checks all the other boxes, but that fence keeps me from buying one.

  • @RylesJMalone
    @RylesJMalone 6 місяців тому +1

    Amazing. The sliding ruler is a no for me tho. I'd lock that down and just have to find another way to use a high/low measurement marker. The fact the ruler moves around that easily means I could rely on it when it's not set right, let alone dust getting in there that might keep it out of accuracy. Of all the problems you solved you've introduce a new one we've never had before. To be fair I'm not a finish carpenter, it just bugs me.

  • @msk3905
    @msk3905 8 місяців тому +1

    As a mechanical engineer I could never understand why fences are so flimsy, if not accurate throws saw accuracy off? It is such a simple solution make front and back slides (whatever they are actually called) wide and rigid (no flex) then it should clamp straight. I would have made your back slide larger/wider) piece that clamps down on saw rail) to ensure absolutely no flex. Also, no thought to make back part of saw where fence slides side have micro indents almost like teeth with clamping piece on fence having the same locking fence in place when snugged down? My rigid 4512 fence is no where the complexity of yours is but I added new plastic pieces (@ $30 on Etsy) that are wider that keeps fence from moving side to side when I move it and it snugs from the back…pretty dang accurate for my use.

    I love Harvey and love the fence, but not the price. I plan on getting a Harvey table saw soon but I just think that it is a pretty expensive addition at $1249 (on sale for $1046 right now) especially if the electronic fence that just got funded on kickstarter comes out and operates how to should with planned MSRP of around $1550. Still an amazing innovation of a new fence system but I have to add it on and not sub in when buying a new table saw. The master-rip fence is a piece that you still get but would be useless and take up space instead of subbing it in at a lower cost. Keep up that great work though Harvey and keep innovations coming.

      @justins2025 I like the SS but again not the price. I understand the safety feature, but Harvey seems very comparable in quality and build minus the autostop for a lot less money. I don't think a safety feature should be that much of mark-up. I also agree with people online that having that safety feature could make you more lack subconsciously. Don't know though. And if I want to cut dados I have to change the brake and then back every time.

      This fence is only $849 for the 36" rip capacity and $899 if bought a saw in the last 6 months or if buying together, def. worth it considering the flip stops, dual clamping, ease of tape scale setting etc. Time is money and if this saves someone a lot time and is convenient then the price pays for itself.

    Very impressive. Only other near comparable with rear clamping is the Incra. Which is too fussy and takes up way to much shop space. Would Harvey consider discounted pricing for recent Alpha Table saw purchases ? At $1200 or so, that is almost half the cost of a 2hp or 3hp Alpha series table saw and almost 2x the cost of 52” Incra setup.
    Again, great design and feature implementation, but pricing is something that will need to be competitive with the market.
