  • This approximately 25 mile loop hike was made up using the northern section of the Susquehannock Trail System (STS) and the West Branch Trail (WBT). The STS is blazed orange while the WBT was blazed yellow. This was a very nice weekend trip with beautiful scenery and plentiful water and campsites. Both the STS and WBT were well maintained and easy to follow. The STS also has mile marks and several first-come-first-serve shelters which is a nice option. I parked at the small lot just down West Branch Road from Cherry Springs State Park. Another nice lot is at the northern gateway to the STS. This was a very enjoyable loop that would be great for beginning backpackers as the terrain was quite mild. I also recommend checking out the PA Lumber Museum as it's only 20min from Cherry Springs State Park.

Great trip this is one of the trail systems I might try for in the fall. Quality campsite a view of a stream is a solid way to go.

Nice video. Planning on doing the same loop in fall. PA has so many great areas to backpack!

Completed the STS loop this summer. The STS club does a fantastic job of maintaining the trails and the shelters are the Ritz of camping. Stayed at two of them on my hike. Huge issue with water. Most sources were dry as well as most campsites. Dangerous of you didn’t camel up at every chance. Had to ask a cottage for their spring right before cardiac climb. Glad I did as little water for quite a while. Cherry Spring dry as a bone.
Just got my # a couple days ago. Loved the remoteness and pristine woods of the STS. My longest solo hike to date. Highly recommend. Only saw two other hikers the whole 83 miles.

Congrats on completing the whole STS! That's on my bucket list for sure.

@@vistaventures1343 when you complete it they send you a letter, card with a hiker # on it. I was 2143, certificate and invite to a dinner.

@@rickbeidleman1928 that's cool. Who do you notify that you completed it? The Standing Stone Trail did this for me as well.

That's great, I've been curious about that connector for a while. East Fork (the nest one south) is also nice, but the Yochum Run / Black Mark Hollow trail is almost all bushwhacking.
Guessing you did this sometime in late April? The ramps were everywhere!

Yeah I was pleasantly surprised the connector was in that good of shape. This trip was in mid-May. If you have any other loop hike ideas hit me up. Happy hiking!

We found a can of Vienna sausages on the Mid State Trail near Sand Run Falls in Tioga State Forest. Must have fallen out of someone’s pack

If it weren’t for my diet of IPAs I’d look just as buff as Caleb setting up my hammock…
