Thanks for watching...I noticed that no-one else had done a thru-hiking video on this trail. The cloud scene was a gift from God...Noah's grandfather had life or death surgery that morning on his heart...rather surreal! Thanks again!
Hopefully using a hammock...not an easy trail to tent. Lots of deer ticks...especially at the eastern end. It's a worthwhile adventure...best wishes...and if you do hike it...feel free to comment here!
If you want to hike it...and have the time...by all means...do it. Just be prepared to struggle finding good camping spots...beyond glad that we had hammocks and even that could be challenging. Thanks for viewing!
I hiked the DHT in the second week of August, 21. I wanted a challenge and that's what I got! I will say the burn hazel is the worst I've ever experienced on a trail. I've hiked plenty of popular hikes, but if I do anything that is less known, I'm definitely bringing long pants and shoes. My sandals and running shorts made a nightmare out of every creek that is covered with the the sharp teeth of burn hazel. I couldn't find a guide or map with mileage, so I used Gaia app to track my hike. I ran out of battery at the end of the last day, so no total mileage for me. 😥 I think 90 though. I managed to used my tent, but it was tricky. If I had a guide it could of been done a lot better. To do it over I would of picked a different trail for the time of year. Being overgrown, the spring is the time do do this hike. Also I'd write a guide book. Also having a partner would be nice to get to the trailhead. I hitched to Jericho from Farrandsville. It took half a day! I went west to east parking at my finish. 4 ½ days 🤙🏻
Hey Joel...first...thanks for viewing...I realized when i posted this video, it was the only one of a thru-hike of the DHT. Obviously...we hiked in June...so we had little problems on the trail...stinging nettle is always a nuisance later in season...but that is true for many of the state forest long distance trails. I've learned the hard way to wear long pants. I'm impressed you used a tent...that would be a challenge in itself. We got a detailed trail map at the District Forest Office which helped considerably...but I understand that there is a guide book available now (google it or look up the KTA). I can't fathom hitching that ride to the other end. Because we seemed to hike it at the right time of year...I loved this adventure and at least you got to descend down Hyner View and down to the river near the end. Please feel free to view my other adventures if you wish. Thanks for commenting! By the way,..I believe it is 94 miles...you did good!
It's been almost two years...Noah had a phone...I did not...so I don't really know. He did get a connection at the Kettle Creek vista. Sorry I can't help more...it's a super hike!
Thanks for viewing...yes...a free map is available from Sproul State Forest via a phone call...or you can stop by the office which is near Renova...there are no guides but the Forest Office sent me a small typed paper with some mileage increments. We did not get lost...but occasionally had to search around for blazes. By all means...do this trail. I have the Susquehannock and Mid-State to do yet...the STS is next spring's adventure. Happy Trails!
@@sleepyheadoutdoors9346 you the man. I did the STS recently and really enjoyed. I'm a die hard hammock camper, but would actually just bring a pad next time and set up in the shelters for that trail. Peace.
I’m planning on hiking the Donut Hole trail next spring. The one piece of information I can’t seem to find is where to park in Jericho. Can you help me out?
We parked right off the main highway...there is no public parking anywhere. We left a sign on the dashboard. As soon as you turn into the little road where the blazes start...that is about where we parked...just off into the grass a little. Best wishes...loved this hike...but...if you can hammock...do it...there's little ground to camp on.
Thanks for the info. Definitely a hammock camper. I don’t think I could sleep on the ground if I had to. I definitely appreciate your video being there isn’t a lot of good information on the DHT.
Enjoy your journey...if you hike east to west...the climb up to Hyner View is monstrous...the east end is definitely the work-out. If you think of it in time...let me know what you thought! God speed!
Hyner View is magnificent! But I wouldn't want to hike up to it. I will drive, thank you. And thank you for the adventure.
Thanks for taking the time to view...agreed...from the bottom up...it's quite a work out...even for an old veteran like me!
Great video of one of the less traveled trails in PA. Really enjoyed the high cloud scene above Kettle Creek. Thanks!

Good video. I'm planning to do that trail this summer in the opposite direction. I'm allowing 7 days.
You should have a great trip either way you go...7 days is smart. Enjoy!
Nice hike! This one’s on my list for 2021.

Great job on the video and congrats on the thru hike. I've always wanted to hike this trail. Maybe, some day...

hi, thanks for the video! would you happen to remember if there is any cell phone range at different parts of the DHT?

Always wondered about this trail.
Thanks for viewing...so did I...it exceeded my expectations and is now one of my favorites!
Thanks for sharing! Views looking good on that trail. Can't wait to do it next Spring. Did you have a map? Did you get lost at all?
