I enjoy the lore of League more than I do the actual game. It's a gold mine of great fantasy and an MMO is perfect to finally let people experience all of it
I absolutely hate League of Legends but I really like the lore and love Legends of Runterra. Coming from a former Heartstone player, LoR is great and has one of the fairest monetization models I have ever seen.
I like this too, not the idea of using child soldiers, but what it represents and what it tells us about the involving nations. Also, it is very real and unfiltered
I think Riot owes a lot to Necrit & TB Skyen in terms of showing people how amazing the lore is. Tons of people had preconceived notions about the LOL lore and those two have really done a lot in turning that around.
@@schneedgod They definetly know their contribution in keeping the lorea community alive and well, and one thing they did was ad Necrit to the Viego game
Asmon if you ever decide to dive into Riot lore Necrit(the guy who made this video) is the best source to learn about all of it. He is so thorough and gets through all of it so well
I remember playing around when Wukong was released. At the time the lore was just character lore pages and a weekly like 'summoner newsletter' type thing. I could be misremembering.
I just love how invested Asmon got listening to Necrit explaining the lore. Like most people who play League, they play it to become better and climb the ranks and only the minority really cares about the lore of the game. But since this is an MMO, lore is gonna be important. And seeing Asmon who knows nothing about the game, not only just being intrigued by the lore but also imagining the countless possibilities of it being fully realized and playable and being able to play the game in the future. I think this is what I appreciate more about his reaction than just like some random dudes on the internet who reacts to League cinematics or whatever.
Something people are not mentioning often enough: Riot is also constantly evolving their lore through their other games. New league characters might come from a previously unknown region or traveled somewhere and gained their powers there. Looking for a new event? Let's write in a war between two nations and have players pick sides. Even skins can bring in some new piece of lore. It's a massive advantage having these things interconnected.
@@beo3828 Spirit Blossom skins are also canon. It's just that they represent totally different characters than the Champions they're for. As an example, Spirit Blossom Thresh is a different character and has a different name in-lore, but he still exists.
imagine they just make a dimensional portal event and take you to the star guardian universe or dark star universe where you could complete some event stories and get some cool armor and items you wouldn't be able to get otherwise because it wouldn't fit the main world of Runeterra. Not to mention the Celestials and Targon Prime which are interstellar and connected to multiple planets, it's literally infinite potential (as Syndra would say xd)
@@beo3828 Actually no. Spirit Blosson Yasuo and Yone have a very similar backstory to the originals, but they actually are different two brothers who are, as you said, dead and exist as spirits in Ionia. Though I lied a bit when I said that all Spirit Blossom skins represent different characters. Spirit Blossom Kindred is actually the exact same being as the original, it's just they take different forms in different regions based on people's beliefs, and that's how Ionians see them.
The worldbuilding has pretty much be done in character lore in the LoL in game client, events, cinematics etc. etc. Bit by bit they built it up over years and years of time. I'm really hoping their MMO gets made well. Because the potential is massive.
They have enough cash flow to make it good... That and they have lore Lets just hope it's not a cookie cutter mmo and focuses on low-mid end requirements.
@@MonSteh Amazon Game Studios also had enough cash flow to "make it good" and they delivered a super average MMO overall. Riot has more lore going for it but there's still a ton of potential to screw it up.
I remember when the story of league was just some random character champions tossed togethor forced to do battle by some omnipotent "summoner" represented by you the player controlling them to do battle. To go from that to seeing the compexity of and amazing quality of their story to the point that even some of their skin lines are better written than any lore wow has put out in the last 10 years. Riots art team is now on another level.
@@LunaticThinker It was definitely a bad lore piece that held their story lore back. DOTA failed to shutter it's game-focused lore roots and now we have no true canon lore because everything is canon in a massive multiverse, because the Ancients restart time whenever they are on the brink of destruction.
So with this you have the basic ins and outs about the general world lore. Now consider theres 140+ characters each with their owns stories inside of that world and a crazy amount of sidecharacters also with fleshed out stories. This has the potential to be REALLY awesome.
@@Nightstalker314 i believe, they did said that they will not be focus around the champions in league because of that same thing (? They will be here and there but will likely not have the great impact that you would expect (no all of them, but with plenty) like, in Ionia they could mention Shen or Zed, but what they do wouldn't be the focus, but rather the thing that caused them to do it? Idk if I explained right
@@Shiftry87 Another problem with using LoL Champions as characters in MMO is that Riot will be very limited in what they can do with them. It's the same problem that prevents them from properly developing lore storylines. Champions are built around a particular status quo and changing it in any significant amount will also require changes in LoL. Killing one is outright impossible. For now at least. We've seen devs being at least somewhat willing to go that way with Viego, but still, there are limits.
@@antongrigoryev6381 imo, you can actually kill them, some champions is already dead in lore, or changed, compared to in-game, some are from difference age/era/time, so you can think as summoner's rift can summons champions from the past to present, etc. so even if a champion die or changed, it still won't affact the summoner's rift much. EDIT: and they can also just update some voice lines into the game like Jinx/Vi or update the whole thing like Gangplank, etc.
Unlike most MMOs that get announced, I'm really excited for this one. Riot is basically what Blizzard used to be. IK for sure that this MMO is gonna be great, especially since it's using LOL lore.
yeeeeeeeeeeeah and look what blizzard turned into.....they ruined league over the years and turned it more into a gambling simulator to generate money then a competitive game and valorant isnt close to what they said they wanted to do with it initially in terms of how realistic and accurate the gunplay and abilities are. Lets be real. They will copy WoW format but do it better because its 20 years later but thats relative when its 20 years later and your a billion dollar bussiness. Itll be great for a few years then they wiill give in and turn to making money over quality and we will all be on to the next thing rinse dopamine receptors and wallets and repeat
Hell no mann, Ol' Blizzard was something else. We had Blizzard GMs everywhere f*cking with us having fun with us just pretty much enjoying it all and Blizzard was just making game for making game, anyone could get offended by sexual jokes, no one gave a fuck. Hell, Illidan had a HAREM, still no one gave a fuck, now, we can't even /spit on someone or /pathetic someone. Because trans or gay or women or child get offended.
Making new games that happen to be successful =/= the old Blizzard. Blizzard pioneered and successfully topped several genres. Riot made a few successful games and some above average ones.
Riot's been building League lore for a loong time now. League has been out for 13 years now and while the lore started really simple they've been working at it for a long time now building and expanding the world. They've written many stories, they've been killing it with the cinematics and in November last year we finally got an actual series where they showed a wider audience what their team is capable of. Riot's got some really talented writers, the world is already incredibly interesting and it seems like with this MMO they're going to push it even further.
Never played LoL and not a fan of it, but god damn happened to watch Arcane on Netflix few months ago and I can imagine the world/lore Riot can build just from that show. I am super stoked for this MMO.
to be honest they only really started to put it together like during season 7 or 8. because the lore before it was just weak. Just random people summoned to fight on the rift for countries to take land.
@@dango2917 yeah pretty much, at first it was just this champ is from this region, and a bit of lore on how they got their powers or something. Which also makes sense since back then Riot was focused on building a good game and a successful E-Sports scene, when they cemented themselves as the giants they are they were able to focus more on this aspects that dont directly impact the game or the esports scene. What i have to commend Riot for is that they have expanded the lore of those old champions (or at least most of them), which many devs would probably ignore and just do expanded lore for newly released characters.
@@dango2917 Wouldn't be surprised if in s7-s8 the idea and a rough plan for Riot MMO was being laid out. The amount of time it takes for the idea of a new game to reach actual development could be years.
It would be interesting if they released each zone following a story, but not all at once. Make it extremely detailed zones/quests and bring the story to a certain point. After that, a major event that present the new area after it's completed with quality quests/storytelling and detailed zones. They have a good product in their hand....it just that companies usually bite more than they can chew....focus on a smaller map but with quality, then after that is done, release the new area. I would not mind to pay monthly to play a game with that kind of intent behind it....but that's not how it's probably going to go down
Riot games is known to excel at what they do lately. Having only 1 region on release will be more than terrible. Why would I play Noxian if I gotta do quests in demacia and vice-versa? Instead of focusing on a small map with quality just take the time to make a huge map with the same quality, which is what they're doing
@@hM-gx3hq when i meant ''smaller'' i meant the entire region from a ''faction/country''. All i am saying is not to try to release the entire or almost the entire map at once or in a short period of time. Also, riot games is known for many things, none of them is for making quality games...
@@aldrich2825 Wdym not quality games, League? Huge success. TFT? Don't see any other autobattlers rivaling that one. Valorant? Huge competition to CS. @@royalecrafts6252 short of implementing VR into MMOs, which will not happen in the next 5 to 10 years because of the cost barrier to fill the servers (not to mention how hard it would be to code entire worlds like that without instancing areas quite heavily), there really isn't much that hasn't been tried, and if a gameplay concept doesn't do phenomanly well it's viewed as a lost cause by publishing companies. Sadly, while I enjoy the lore of league a lot, if ten cent is involved in the decision making for riot's mmo I think "gameplay is king" will boil down to anything that keeps the player grinding away while selling overpriced skins or accessories. At least in terms of league of legends they stopped innovating years ago and are just riding the cash cow. I'd be very surprised to see them attempt true originality in the MMO, especially given how established the genre is. The only hope I have is that they ironically make a monthly-sub based game like WoW and actually focus on gameplay development and PvP events that will engage people to form good communities, but again there's no guarantee they would allocate revenue to their development teams to push risky and original ideas, and in terms of community league is extremely toxic and I have no faith that won't bleed over into the MMO and make large-scale events miserable.

I love how he slowly realises how powerful this Lore is, i personally been years around Riot's Work, since the Season 2! I'm a writer, a little amateur [and with hope lol], truly worldbuilding is kinda what i love to do most. And Riot simply NAILED IT, they took random pieces, persons, desings, that looked completly oppossite and made this World, vast, diverse, and with so much content! I truly respect the writers of Riot Games, the Lore Team is incredible and i can probably say that it's one of the best out there when it comes to Lore of Games.
One thing about riot world building is that they have retconned and rewritten everything so many times that it finally works. Noxus and black lotus has been changed over 5 times, demacia has been changed a lot, with each champion coming out the previous ones get updated. Thats how we get this massive world.
@@mohammadnaghizade3544 Exactly! That's how you do Worldbuilding, taking pieces, rewritting, and connecting, if it doesnt work, try again, until it does! They truly did an outstanding job tho, considering how vast and diverses the "pieces" were at the beggining. The fact that almost* everything is connected by this point it's outstanding and you can clearly tell that it's a work of years and years.
no one knows how deep the Runeterra lore is because the games themselves (except for The Ruined King game) do not explain the lore at any point, Riot didn't start as an RPG Devteam, so those who know the Lore from playing League, know it because they went and read it on their own, but as someone that has played League since 2014, i can tell you, the Lore has no impact in LoL, or Legends of Runeterra, or TFT, or Valorant. Given that MMORPGs take 6+ years to develop, Riot probably knew they wanted to make an MMORPG before they were even close to starting the development of the MMO, which is why they did make the effort of creating an interesting world and put so much effort in the worldbuilding aspects of Runeterra.
Its not the lore is shit. Any lore enthusiast will tell you that LoLs lore is FULL of pointless retcons every 1-3 years and marketing affecting lore 2nd hand multiple times especially recently. People who praise the lore either dont care about this or are ignorant to these issues.
Kinda in the same camp. I don't play too many mmo's. But after watching arcane, I binged on League lore, and it's actually quite expansive and compelling. And I'm actually looking forward to this mmo

@@rowmein nah bro, the way Riot dealt with LoL lore was really bad until recently, they removed the diary inside the launcher, they stopped doing the champions judgments which were great to know more about each character backgroud, they retconned dozens of champions backgrounds because they had no idea what to do with the lore and how to connect everything. I can't tell exactly when they started to actually work on their worldbuilding but it's not more than 5 years. But the man has been following League's lore longer than a large majority of everyone else so of course whatever he says has credibility to it.
What I love about this vid and Asmon's reaction to it is that so many pictures have people in them. Maybe half of those people are already characters in League of Legends (I was surprised Asmon didn't say anything until Ahri showed up) and they have their established lore in the world already. The other half are just random characters made up either by Riot or by people using the lore described by Riot. They all look distinct and unique and give so much added flavor to the world.
I got into the League universe by playing Legends of Runeterra, which is what most of the art used in this video is from. It’s such a good game and has almost nonexistent micro transactions for a trading card game.

I just hope that riot dosnt drop the ball when it comes to the gameplay, I seriously doubt they will but you never know I guess.

The best thing is you really can start reading almost any story and understand what is going on, creating and imagining the world around the story and yet everything is connected
League has one of the richest lores in game history, in fact most league players don't know or care about the lore, but even though most players don't care, they never stopped developing the world and it's history, I remember I had to read the characters profiles and web the lore together to make out the overall lore almost a decade ago, it's really, really amazing how they made something that grand even though it's a completely optional and "unimportant" part of the game.
@@Bilbobaggins82242 Like most league players or people that never played league, you have no clue about the game lore, 10 year ago, even though you had to understand the lore by the champions profile, it had more depth than most MMO at the time, they expanded on the lore for 10 year since, you are clearly oblivious to it since it's not throw at your face like other games, your remark just show your ignorance.
@@Bilbobaggins82242 i personally wouldnt go as far as saying it has THE richest lore but it is definetly up there. What you are saying is just flat out proveably incorrect. Even if you dont like the lore wich you obviously are entiteled to, there is SO MUCH of it and it is all done with a very high level of care and effort. Over 160 playable champions with almost all of them having a pretty hefty and interesting character backstory, their own character theme song and usually 2-3 short storys to their name, hundreds more of already pretty well developed and cool side characters from LoR and the supplemental material. There is i think 5 short comic series and dozens of longer novellas, there is a lore/worldbuilding book, over 100 very high quality cinematics and promo vids of wich about 40% are actually canon lore material. The thousands of ingame Champion interactions and voicelines that give more details about relationships and history. About 15 distinct regions/nations all with very complex and diverse cultures, historys, visual styles and inhabitants and also a long and interesting storyline in concurrent canon. Fucking ARCANE! An entire Soundtrack of something like 200 ambient tracks that have accumulated over the years and exist for no other reason as to give vibes to the regions or some more to some characters. Hundreds of beautifull pictures and pieces of Artwork depicting the landscapes, creatures, peoples and history of the world ranging from concept art to full renderings. The list goes on and on. Tl;Dr: as i said above, just because you dont like it, the objective ammount of care, effort and passion that has been put into this over the last decade by the artists and writers can not be denied on any logical or reasonable basis.
Being deep into the lore of League since long now, when I watched Necrit's video I thought it was well made and that he brought good points, but watching you react to it makes me realize how well put together his video is, and it really highlights how developed the lore of League is. As the years goes by I love it's lore more and more over the actual gameplay. The thing I think Riot's writers do best is morally grey zones. There is A LOT of characters that look good or evil at first glance, but when you dig into their lore you realize that it's way more complex than that (Morgana vs Kayle for example, Viktor (the canon one) too). I absolutely can't wait to dive deeper into this world with the MMO!
I love this lore and it has a lot of possibilities to go further but I hope unlike Blizzard they give us time with newly introduced or developed characters before they make them integral or expect us to care, Blizzard used up all the existing lore and then plowed on with a mixture of pure retcon and that weird inbetween where you add stuff and there by change context of existing lore but not actually changing events. I prefer the latter but I have to care about the developments and ramifications and not feel like theyre irrelevant the moment the next expansion drops
The lore Riot has created is very intriguing, but so far it's largely been a bunch of storylines that are cool ideas more than anything else. They can tell individual stories with it, but what I'm really interested in seeing is if they can take their eclectic lore and bring it all together in an MMO. They definitely have a leg up with so many people who already have some knowledge of it and are anxious to explore the world further, so hopefully they can pull it off, but I think too many people are assuming that their starting point is simply going to work because it sounds interesting. Even if they don't do it well it may work for some time, but if it's not cohesive then it will start to show cracks over time. But above all else, the fact that LoL has forced them to create such a diversity of storylines could be a great strength for them. They're basically obligated to take the risks to create a very unique world rather than trying to find ways for it to conform into something simpler.
@@Impervious11 I think they will focus on their huge storyline character and ignore the minimize ones like Asol is so improtant for lore but Jhin is not that important and they will create mostly dungeons and raids on these characters and video creater already explained every region has own main stroyline and connected storyline and these are make me so excited cause I beleive this game will be huge and so feed up about content and Riot Games always makes their game f2p and wittout p2w I hope it'll come fast.
I just keep rewatching this because I love seeing Riots lore finally be appreciated by a big streamer, even better that is Asmongold. Makes the fanboy in me really happy
For story telling, Riot will have an easier time with characters than WoW. Warcraft only had a handful of characters people really knew and cared about. League has hundreds. And as League is constantly shitting out new champions, there will be room for their MMO to occasionally kill off a few for story. I think Arcane really showed us that Riot can truly visualize the world building of League. It also showed us they can write a fucking story. And cutscenes will be fire in the MMO, as their in-house animators made Arcane.
PLUS they aren't afraid of creating important characters that aren't in the game. E.g. Silco from Arcane was crucial in Arcane, but only made it to TFT and is never coming to League. There are so many super strong characters and beings in the world that haven't been touched on in the game, which is honestly super cool.
@@robertcharrasse4002 Brother, Fortiche was made of 5 people. Riot themselves hired 300 people for Fortiche to do the arcane series. Fortiche is literally Riot Games. They even bought Like majority of stakes in the company now.
For sometime Riot has essentially been Blizzard's child, coming out of WC3 DotA with LoL and keeping the similar style of art and games throughout, then going further. They show that passion that Blizzard lost, making groundbreaking amazing cinematics, world building and even developing other games which are highly successful. They're kinda going the same route but a different one like Blizzard, and so far they've innovated game genres that exist just as Blizzard did as well, only that I feel I'm quite confident they have what it takes to really create something new and great that the players want, or have the same vision, rather than Blizzard that seems to lost their touch.
It's the leadership in my opinion. Riot has a f***ing superbrain ontop of it that has been proven time and time again. Blizzard went foul when Activision came in. They managed to make everyone with passion leave. Nowadays there are at most 5 people of original Blizzard left in the whole company. I have seen a Video about that. Let's hope that Riot's superbrain will keep leading the Company for a long time to come. It might only need for one right person to fall out for it all to crumble.
While I would agree a couple of years ago current Riot feels very fabricated when the people behind stuff talk. They've started to show the cracks that could lead to them becoming just like Blizzard or any other money hungry company that deems themselves better than their playerbase. There is enough lore to make something really interesting, but Riot is capable of ruining it.

It would be sick if you could choose whatever race, region and class you want to start at and each combination has a different "intro" story before they all eventually start connecting to each other until they all culminate into whatever the main story of the game is and every expansion following it. I agree that shurima can be an end game zone for the continent that has been shown since they can also branch it so that we can go through the void by going to an entrance in icathia
I hope not. WOW showed us how bad it is to have zones to level in and one endgame zone. Riot needs to have everything tie into the end game. I don't want any of the zones to become obsolete and barren because their endzone is somewhere else. Have us travel to Noxus to buy certain metals to forge with the wood from Demacia to make a weapon. Some people might find it tedious but Riot's big advantage is how fleshed out their world is and the atmosphere it provides. If they make keeping it their top priority the game will do great

Blizzard's rep in the industry was phenomenally high at the time, the tabloids had already run stories about how the nation's children were getting hooked on 'Evercrack' and Warcraft 3 was getting the sort of mainstream attention PC games hardly ever received back then because it was considered so niche compared to the consoles - remember that? It cant be like that bcs gameplay is like diablo so they can kill only that stupid games when they make game like wow 3rd person wasd walking jumping and everything then we can say its wow killer
This is not "the WoW killer". That title is useless because WoW has fallen so far and already been dethroned. Yeah its still going okay but the 70 yr old man that walks the park every day is doing okay also, yet he is still so far pasted his prime any younger person could take him out. Taking out an old man means nothing, old age won the fight for you. WoW has "killed" itself.

@@redbruhcolli League has the perfect lore for an MMO. There is better fantasy lore but can it compete with league and its already 160 unique champions. That's a lot of characters to explore
It made me so happy to see how interested Asmon is in everything here and how intently he listens and wants to understand and take it all in. I wish there were more people like this in the world who want to listen like this. It was genuinely so soothing to my small spikes of anxiety when I perceived very lore-heavy parts of Necrit’s video being explained and I thought it could be an overload for anyone new to the lore, but then Asmon takes a moment to repeat back what he heard, process it, then repeatedly give it praise! Thank you. Also, if you love all these morally grey characters and stories and powerfully raw and well fleshed out narratives, you will fucking love Arcane! Please watch it and tell us what you think! I haven’t stopped having thoughts on it since it came out.
Personally, I think the MMO should take place before most of the current lore of league. I think it’d be very cool and also allows them creative freedom to narratively create new characters that can be transitioned to league.
I have really not been excited by new releases in mmos at all, I played wow then recently ff but none of the new releases or anything, but this gives me serious early wow vibes, pure worldbuilding and telling small stories within a vast world, and I wanna go adventure in it
For others that are interested in the lore and want to look into more, some of the LoL champs with the best lore are Jhin, Pyke, Mordekaiser, Sylas, Camille, Diana/Leona, Kindred, Pantheon, and Fiddlesticks
It would be incredible if during a Mordekaiser boss raid, he uses his league ultimate and puts someone in his realm for X amount of time for an epic 1 v 1
i've read a couple of his books yes. No need to get salty about it though, it's clear the LoL lore is not as 'lazy' as you make it seem and i think it's great that the lovecraftian vibes are in there somewhere.
@Hiddel Subbeldees moreover, sure we have Lovecraft with his books. Yes there are some great stories in there, but of it is scribble, dense and hard to read. Yes I have a few collection books from him. But you know what Lovecraft is a synonym to, or even literally the same thing? A genre. It's a genre. Do you get where I'm getting at?
I’m very reserved on getting excited about a new game but to hear this amount of lore gets me hopeful for this games success and I hope to experience the universe Riot has created.
he's absolutely right that villains need to win sometimes, so the heroes can come back stronger. at the last episode of ATLA book 2 i really thought Aang was gonna whoop everybody but azula zapped him in the back during the transformation.
This Lore has been going since i think 2008. The war between Noxus and Ionia was player based in league of legends. They had pros play a game of League of Legends to determine the outcome of that specific Lore. I remember having a watch party with my friends in college during that time. Crazy to believe how it all developed but I'm happy it did
Loved the jumping Puzzles in gw2. Mount targon seems to benthe perfect place for a huge "Fall Guy" like jumping puzzle instead of some generic dungeon. Also something like delve from poe fits these games really well. Dont make gameplay generic and turn this world into wow with a new riot cloak. The beauty of mmorpgs is that you can be really creative with different activities.
I'm writing a progression fantasy In one of the dungeons the main group encounters, they have to kill a boss that is comprised of lightning with giant iron rods, grounding it and effectively nullifying it's existence No damage done to the thing by the characters There are jump puzzles and obstacles between the ballistias set up to shoot the rods Wish there was more of that "The Midnight Wars" Coming whenever I finish it
Targon could make a great endless roguelite dungeon with platform-like sections. Lore-wise it's probably for the best, we wouldn't want the possibility of players becoming Aspects
For years even when riot only had lol I always found the lore so interesting and always wondered why they put so much effort in it and wondered if they would ever do anything with it. Now after arcane and this mmo I finally understand and I’m so happy with the direction riot games is going in
As someone whos played wow and league i can say League really has more developed characters that i have grown to love. Pretty much all of them. On top of also having nice world building. League mmo really could/would be greater than wow.
how the hell could you interpret it that way ?! they're going dark in the media, so they can focus on development without outside pressures. so the opposite of what you wrote, lol. Do you hear news the same way?
I feel Riot does 2 things the absolute best when it comes to any games they create. The lore, of course, and the music to accompany it. There was damn good music in Arcane to set the mood, each region gives you the idea of it by composition, even the characters from League itself have their own unique music that brings out their character so much.
I'd say visuals and dev communication. League devs frequently answer stuff on reddit and twitter and ghostcrawler is also doing it almost daily. Their cinamtics in the past few years were also sooo good visually.
Here I am watching this video for the 4th time... I simply love to see asmon engaging to league's lore and getting excited about almost everything Necrit is saying
"they don't have a balance team" i don't think people realize how hard it is to truly balance characters/weapons in games. there's pro play which deserves attention, but there's also the higher elo players, and then there's the casual bottom tier players where majority of games player base always are. changes in one elo doesn't reflect the same targets in another.
Wasnt there a champion who was in a spotlight before its release and people knew it was going to be broken, but riot just did anyway. And then Riot realized its actually broken, so they remove the champs features and nerfed it.
What's better is that they can make cool titles for the events. Imagine the event, "The Climb to Targon" or "The Shuriman Void War". Titles are very underrated but is very important. How many times you clicked on a video because of the cool title or reading a news because the headline attracted you. With good titles, you can get players attention to join the event and the more unique the title is, the more people can remember it, becoming free advertisement.
Asmon NEEDS to finish Arcane. Not only is it a fantastic animated series, It would really help to set the stage and gives a great perspective of the scope of the world.
I really love that all this does remind you of WoW, but on a smaller, less cluttered scale. Warcraft started out like this, with a well thought out foundation of lore, but after decades it was kind of all over the place with dozens of storylines that were built up and then abandoned for something else, making whole game mechanics obsolete etc. I really hope they are going to take their time with this.
one small reason why MMO takes 6+ years to make is that there are no good MMO engine out on the market and the few that exist (blizzards wow engine) is locked for anyone but blizzard themself. If I wanted to make a FPS game (anything from a COD/Battlefield clone in the same scale) to a 32vs32 Multiplayer FPS game I got hundreds of engine to choice from (unity, unreal 3, 4 and now 5) far cry engine (was a pain to get thought), Source 1 and Source 2. same whit RTS game there is a good chunk of options and I could just make it the netcode for a 32vs32 game is there already in the box just need content and all that. if I wanted to make a MMO I needed to first get a engine then get the network for that kind of scale a MMO needs I need to make that as for a long time there was littarly nothing on the market. and Unreal 3 and 4 is starting to collapse under the age of the engine limitation. there was a dedicated MMO engine out there for a time (hero engine sadly only SWTOR used it and 1 other game used it... elder scrools used it for a short time but stoped). so a lot of that time is just spending getting a basic engine to work for the task. you know that basic 1 week unity tutorial videos you seen that ends whit a game demo that's is a 1 vs 1 FPS game on a super basic N64 level style grey arena whit basic weapons maybe power upp movements and a jump function. that is what most MMO looks like after several years of hard work. becaues they needed to make everything more or less from scratch. meanwhile if I wanted to make a Battlefield clone that would be 1-2 weeks at most in unity, unreal or source, amusing the person can code at any level.
I think the forgotten isles have the most promise. You could allow for undead factions, attempting to reclaim leadership of the isle and have a raid to prevent Viego from controlling the dead. It could be a new zone filled with magics of the dead and ressurection.resurrection.. the isle of the blessed dark. New playable characters, New Spells, and creation of homunculi and phylactery golem, housing long dead blessed isle mages.
@@lookatyourself1927 She will probably be used for musical events if she is added to the game wich would actually make sense unlike in the actual lore where she just exists
If you really like this background lore, you should do a stream of watching some of the lore videos. Not necessarily the yearly cinematic, but some of the lore ones really flesh out the areas. Watch the Noxian one, (Noxus After Victory).
The unapologetic inclusion of strife, sacrifice, and atrocity, makes this story better than anything MMO gaming has seen in the last two decades. Heroes need a dark world to save, and villains need a world without training wheels on it.
the lore of runeterra (the world league of legends takes place in) is so insanely awesome and well thought-out and ever-expanding. like never play league of legends but almost any story made by riot is just great in some way or another or its a bridge between even cooler stories.
Considering we can expect to interact plenty with many of League's characters, I could see Kindred playing some role with the player character. At least when it comes to death and such. Though it'd be a rather odd agreement at the same time since the two don't exactly like anything that cheats death; namely the undead and those who manipulate time
I played LoL when it was still in beta and grew an addiction before release I was literally wasting my time thinking about ways to turn the game into an MMO and drawing new characters up with even some 'basic' math for the abilities I would make up. and now here we are and the dream is alive!
i love the lore in league and I hope that i can explore it in their mmo, idc if the game is p2p, Ill buy it just cus i wanna explore the world. At the same time, i wish the devs behind this success and less hardships making this happen cus i know its gnna be rough and the pressure from the community is high.
i love wow and i always will but the one thing about the game that turns me and my friends off from playing it is the subscription , i hate subscriptions in any game just ruins it for me
I knew they will make something interesting but this over exceeds my expectations by far, I think this could be the real successor for wow, they have a good healthy mass on moba and looks they where hard working in silence to have a big hit on mmorpg. They are creating a similar enviroment like Blizzard on the 90's.
It would be absolutely insane if they had some kind of pvp event kind of like a massive massive battle royal or some kind of fighting game tournament style where winner's characters becomes an actual league champion.
this lore sounds so amazing, league of leguends has so much potential to pull big numbers, i hope the game is good and can stand for a long time like wow to play it.
Yeah... but Elder Scrolls and Star Wars had good lore to start with as well and those games didnt blew up as much as expected. Gameplay, Online Shop and all other little things will matter. Game have to be fun, avoid P2W and somehow encourage us to play longer than 1-2 release months.
@@ysosowoskx Blizzard is good at making cinematics as well... and its kinda controversial but I Liked WoW movie. Unfortunately I left WoW due to gameplay reasons and Diablo is in way worse condition. Dunno if Riot is making amazing games~ I play LoL and LoR and its leaving me with 50/50 bitter attitude. I will definitely test their MMO and will definitely have some fun for month or two but I am not hyped to think that I will stay for longer... they will have to convince me. They will have to convince people to abandon other MMO games for this because thats what MMO players are doing - we are jumping from one MMO to another while basically staying for longer in ONE.
@@thekingadam6972 Maybe it will have low population after two months but dubt in "wont last". Only very poor studios are closing their servers and Riot is a big company. Even with lower population games are making money because EA out of all studios is still satisfied with their SWTOR.
wow! This is what happens when you let writers do the writing, and not have the bloated and inflated egos of the wow designers make shit up as they go along. Writers want to produce good writing, and fantasy writers want to create all the fantastical worlds. WoW has for since forever basically just done whatever the lead designer thought would be cool. For as long as Riot don't fall for the "board room director writing" (and an approach that **DOESN'T** make the player the superhero/chosen one, instead of immersing them in the massively multiplayer world as one among many) that wow has had I think they are set. This is amazing. I knew zero about the lol world, and once this game comes out I'll be happy I didn't because it seems like it will be fun to explore for the first time in that game
@@HeroOfJusticeYT Don't get me wrong, I'm very progressive (anarchist adjacent), but the show is very political in its messaging and deals with societal issues like class quite well. The slums and the upper societal class is basically analogous to not just capitalism but caste-like hierarchical structures in society, like monarchies. Some live in luxury while others breathe in toxic fumes (by no fault of their own). Personally I'm extremely tired of superheroes and how the good guys always defend the status quo, while Arcane brings forth questions about how state violence monopoly is used to reinforce social class. "Woke" in this context is a buzzword from culture warriors, but I'm not averse to calling the show that if prompted. The show is asking critical political questions and highlighting flaws in our society. Strong females also play into this, like how Vi is kind of "Rei if Rei was well written" with pink(!) hair (to me alluding to the whole sjw hate stuff).
Also, there are lots of side stories, star guardians, high noons, champions(skins) which can be arena and shadow isles they could be very good events, dungeons, raids etc. I will be happy to try it very soon. :)
I've never played anything from Riot, have never watched Arcane because I dont like watching shows, but this video alone really gets me excited for the story of this game.
I am in many ways the same way - I dont tend to watch "cinematography" but even I can say after being coaxed into it that Arcane is an all around 10/10 masterpiece.
i somewhat disagree with those comments above, sure arcane was cool, but not masterpice for sure, same goes for card game, it is great in pve mode that they did, but pvp is... unfun due to a lot of different things

What Necrit has done over the years to teach people about the League Lore is very valuable!

But since this is an MMO, lore is gonna be important. And seeing Asmon who knows nothing about the game, not only just being intrigued by the lore but also imagining the countless possibilities of it being fully realized and playable and being able to play the game in the future.
League has alternate universes from the skinlines
A lot of skinlines could provide enough material for a game and IT WILL SELL
@@beo3828 they are just different versions of the same champion on a time line, not a evolution but just different

@@MonSteh Amazon Game Studios also had enough cash flow to "make it good" and they delivered a super average MMO overall. Riot has more lore going for it but there's still a ton of potential to screw it up.

To go from that to seeing the compexity of and amazing quality of their story to the point that even some of their skin lines are better written than any lore wow has put out in the last 10 years. Riots art team is now on another level.

I am super stoked for this MMO.
when i used to play LoL they just released champs like every 2 weeks, so no. back then they did not had any lore at all.

@@dango2917 yeah pretty much, at first it was just this champ is from this region, and a bit of lore on how they got their powers or something. Riot games is known to excel at what they do lately. Having only 1 region on release will be more than terrible. Why would I play Noxian if I gotta do quests in demacia and vice-versa? Sadly, while I enjoy the lore of league a lot, if ten cent is involved in the decision making for riot's mmo I think "gameplay is king" will boil down to anything that keeps the player grinding away while selling overpriced skins or accessories. One thing about riot world building is that they have retconned and rewritten everything so many times that it finally works. My faith in this riot mmo has sky rocketed. Never knew the lore was this good
Read marvel & Riot's comic about the story of Frelijord and you will see that Riot has everything to make a MMO
no one knows how deep the Runeterra lore is because the games themselves (except for The Ruined King game) do not explain the lore at any point, Riot didn't start as an RPG Devteam, so those who know the Lore from playing League, know it because they went and read it on their own, but as someone that has played League since 2014, i can tell you, the Lore has no impact in LoL, or Legends of Runeterra, or TFT, or Valorant.
This is all very surface level, if you read the stories they write in the universe, you see how much quality is in there

They all look distinct and unique and give so much added flavor to the world.
a lot of the pictures are actually cards from their card game legends of runeterra :)
I got into the League universe by playing Legends of Runeterra, which is what most of the art used in this video is from. It’s such a good game and has almost nonexistent micro transactions for a trading card game.

Necrit does extremely good lore videos, glad asmon reacted to him.
Richest lores in game history... Pmsl are you for real or just 10?, league has the depth of a pot hole just bloated with shallow face value lore 😂

Tl;Dr: as i said above, just because you dont like it, the objective ammount of care, effort and passion that has been put into this over the last decade by the artists and writers can not be denied on any logical or reasonable basis.
who cares about the lore when people just want to play the game to get kills and rank
Im thinking riot is going down. Cause i think they keep focusin on the likes of eboys and egirls...

Riot lore is retconned to hell.
And don't forget the best part of RIOT games... their MUSIC is Grammy worthy!
PLUS they aren't afraid of creating important characters that aren't in the game. E.g. Silco from Arcane was crucial in Arcane, but only made it to TFT and is never coming to League. There are so many super strong characters and beings in the world that haven't been touched on in the game, which is honestly super cool.
I'm worried that they will have so many characters, a lot of them won't gain enough attention.
A French animation studio made Arcane, not their in-house team. Not to take anything from their in house team.

This is the correct hope.

Id love if you could actually side with different factions you know? Like being part of the mage seekers in demacia or be part of the rebellion. Same goes for Piltover and Zaun.
I think Demacia, Freljord and Nexus could be the three starter locations and Shurima be the endgame zone or an expansion + Ionia.

The story "silenced of the damned" is the story where that type of horror shines through. It's also the only one with that type of stuff though

I'm writing a progression fantasy
In one of the dungeons the main group encounters, they have to kill a boss that is comprised of lightning with giant iron rods, grounding it and effectively nullifying it's existence
No damage done to the thing by the characters
There are jump puzzles and obstacles between the ballistias set up to shoot the rods
Wish there was more of that
"The Midnight Wars"
Coming whenever I finish it
nah fuck jumping puzzles go play a roblox obstacle course
i'd like to climb mount targon as an awakening quest of some sort
Any game that involves a big enemy that you can't damage with ur weapons.
Targon could make a great endless roguelite dungeon with platform-like sections. Lore-wise it's probably for the best, we wouldn't want the possibility of players becoming Aspects

Gonna be a good game. League has some really, really cool lore. This guy is summarizing A LOT too.
Their cinamtics in the past few years were also sooo good visually.
things I miss in blizzard games. But I'm glad Riot's gonna be the new Blizzard for me
as a fan of the lore its so amazing to see new people finally getting into the lore
Here I am watching this video for the 4th time... I simply love to see asmon engaging to league's lore and getting excited about almost everything Necrit is saying
I love Riot's universe, the Card Game is awesome and I'm so hyped for the MMO 🖤
Also the already out RPG, rhythm game...
"I actually don't think it's as far away as people might believe"
"they don't have a balance team" i don't think people realize how hard it is to truly balance characters/weapons in games. there's pro play which deserves attention, but there's also the higher elo players, and then there's the casual bottom tier players where majority of games player base always are. changes in one elo doesn't reflect the same targets in another.
Wasnt there a champion who was in a spotlight before its release and people knew it was going to be broken, but riot just did anyway. And then Riot realized its actually broken, so they remove the champs features and nerfed it.
unexpected Necrit Asmongold crossover
What's better is that they can make cool titles for the events. Imagine the event, "The Climb to Targon" or "The Shuriman Void War". Titles are very underrated but is very important. How many times you clicked on a video because of the cool title or reading a news because the headline attracted you.
With good titles, you can get players attention to join the event and the more unique the title is, the more people can remember it, becoming free advertisement.
After watching Arcane I was blown away by what Riot can do. If they use the world building from Arcane in this MMO this might be a potential banger.
So impressive that RITO has been building this for 12 years. When this hits all the big streamers will be running this. 100.
Yeah in 8 years lol
@@TheChocolatePeacock sadly the truest of trues
@@ranknonewarrior They have like 15 years of content to build off of. Makes it way easier.
one small reason why MMO takes 6+ years to make is that there are no good MMO engine out on the market and the few that exist (blizzards wow engine) is locked for anyone but blizzard themself.
If I wanted to make a FPS game (anything from a COD/Battlefield clone in the same scale) to a 32vs32 Multiplayer FPS game I got hundreds of engine to choice from (unity, unreal 3, 4 and now 5)
far cry engine (was a pain to get thought), Source 1 and Source 2.
same whit RTS game there is a good chunk of options and I could just make it the netcode for a 32vs32 game is there already in the box just need content and all that.
if I wanted to make a MMO I needed to first get a engine then get the network for that kind of scale a MMO needs I need to make that as for a long time there was littarly nothing on the market.
and Unreal 3 and 4 is starting to collapse under the age of the engine limitation.
there was a dedicated MMO engine out there for a time (hero engine sadly only SWTOR used it and 1 other game used it... elder scrools used it for a short time but stoped).
so a lot of that time is just spending getting a basic engine to work for the task.
you know that basic 1 week unity tutorial videos you seen that ends whit a game demo that's is a 1 vs 1 FPS game on a super basic N64 level style grey arena whit basic weapons maybe power upp movements and a jump function.
that is what most MMO looks like after several years of hard work. becaues they needed to make everything more or less from scratch.
meanwhile if I wanted to make a Battlefield clone that would be 1-2 weeks at most in unity, unreal or source, amusing the person can code at any level.
New playable characters, New Spells, and creation of homunculi and phylactery golem, housing long dead blessed isle mages.
say what you want about league, the lore behind it is so expansive and amazing cant wait to see where they take this
Dog shit game, but lore is pog. But hopefully they wont lean towards seraphine to much as she is a bug in the lore
@@lookatyourself1927 She will probably be used for musical events if she is added to the game wich would actually make sense unlike in the actual lore where she just exists
@@lookatyourself1927 just like the other comment said, Sera would actually be good in the game since it can lead to music events.
If you really like this background lore, you should do a stream of watching some of the lore videos. Not necessarily the yearly cinematic, but some of the lore ones really flesh out the areas. Watch the Noxian one, (Noxus After Victory).
The MMO game is gonna be our gateway to league's lore
The lore sounds really awesome. Hopefully the devs continue to follow those 3 tenets as well, because this Riot MMO looks legit.
The unapologetic inclusion of strife, sacrifice, and atrocity, makes this story better than anything MMO gaming has seen in the last two decades. Heroes need a dark world to save, and villains need a world without training wheels on it.
Because Riot has the balls to do dark dark stuff like arcane , and doesnt interfere too much in people's work except in LoL skin making
the lore of runeterra (the world league of legends takes place in) is so insanely awesome and well thought-out and ever-expanding. like never play league of legends but almost any story made by riot is just great in some way or another or its a bridge between even cooler stories.
I've been watching Necrit for years, I really hope he gets more attention in the future, especially with the MMO coming up.
Considering we can expect to interact plenty with many of League's characters, I could see Kindred playing some role with the player character. At least when it comes to death and such. Though it'd be a rather odd agreement at the same time since the two don't exactly like anything that cheats death; namely the undead and those who manipulate time
Would be cool to be apart of the fist of shadows xD.
Oh yeah damn. When i die, I'll pick the wolf and hopefully i'll battle with him,😂
I played LoL when it was still in beta and grew an addiction before release I was literally wasting my time thinking about ways to turn the game into an MMO and drawing new characters up with even some 'basic' math for the abilities I would make up. and now here we are and the dream is alive!
i love the lore in league and I hope that i can explore it in their mmo, idc if the game is p2p, Ill buy it just cus i wanna explore the world. At the same time, i wish the devs behind this success and less hardships making this happen cus i know its gnna be rough and the pressure from the community is high.
"The world is the main character. The player is the story. The community is the content" - Chris Kaleiki, ex-Blizzard WoW Dev
i love wow and i always will but the one thing about the game that turns me and my friends off from playing it is the subscription , i hate subscriptions in any game just ruins it for me
I knew they will make something interesting but this over exceeds my expectations by far, I think this could be the real successor for wow, they have a good healthy mass on moba and looks they where hard working in silence to have a big hit on mmorpg. They are creating a similar enviroment like Blizzard on the 90's.
The story and lore of runeterra is very mindblowing like it's the best fantasy fiction that is ever out there
It would be absolutely insane if they had some kind of pvp event kind of like a massive massive battle royal or some kind of fighting game tournament style where winner's characters becomes an actual league champion.
The hype is real but knowing the game is coming out 5-6 years in the future make me depressed

Who else cannot wait for this MMO? Arcane was exceptional so I really hope they also create an exceptional MMO. Can’t wait!
Thank god there is the card game to illustratr evrythings
this lore sounds so amazing, league of leguends has so much potential to pull big numbers, i hope the game is good and can stand for a long time like wow to play it.
Yeah... but Elder Scrolls and Star Wars had good lore to start with as well and those games didnt blew up as much as expected. Gameplay, Online Shop and all other little things will matter. Game have to be fun, avoid P2W and somehow encourage us to play longer than 1-2 release months.
@@JesiAsh Yeah but it's riot games they already created amazing games and don't forget arcane and other stuff like cinematics
@@JesiAsh riot dosennt make games if it won't last for a long time
@@thekingadam6972 Maybe it will have low population after two months but dubt in "wont last".
I knew zero about the lol world, and once this game comes out I'll be happy I didn't because it seems like it will be fun to explore for the first time in that game
and they arent woke to the bone
@@Ziomel1 they can't be, they're a Chinese company, woke bs doesn't work in Eastern market, there will be huge backlash from fans
@@Ziomel1 Watched first episode of the TV show Arcane, what's not woke about it?
@@Ingu.z what is woke about it? The women ?
League has such amazing lore, finally feeling like I can actually sink my teeth into an MMO
even if thats true. your life will be completly different by the time it launches.
You probably won't have the time, the energy or the will to play it.
it will be out in MANY MANY years from now.
