Holy shit.....its been 13 years. 13. Since I remember watching this game being announced. I've then moved on to become an adult and now there's a demo of this thing.
It's almost a miracle so many indie darlings of the teen years of the twentieth century have been able to see the light of day. All I need now is ROUTINE and I'm good. Thanks for covering this one ABG!
Totally out of left field question:
What do you think of adulthood? Is it everything you hoped/dreaded it would be?
You do know there's a new Routine trailer out right?
Sure do. Under the publisher raw fury. I'm very hopeful
Just gave me hope for last light even if it is in ten years
Temporal notification: If you find that you exist in a world where RADIO THE UNIVERSE is an actually released game, you are on a timeline bound for collapse.
Note: It may not be obvious in the video, but although you are immortal, it only takes a one or two hits to "kill" you, making you rematerialize at the start of the room (So the battles are nice and challenging).
10 years I believe
Hey, I was wondering, when you post a video for a game on Steam could you also put in the description which OS the game is compatible with? Windows, Mac, Linux, or whichever combination of the three? It would be really helpful to know.
@@beauleidig8670 or just add in description link to steam page...
@@MrVoland44 if you click ABG's link in the description you'll get a short review and the steam link (if any) at the bottom of the page
@@odinian6244 i know, but it would be better if there two links: ABG's and STEAM's
That art design is awesome. The HUD that appears on the bottom reminds me of something out a fighter jet. The sound design was also great. The music was very atmospheric.
It seems that HUD at the bottom is mechanical legs tracking forces and balance for jumping.
I'm a retired electrical engineer, so I love the 12Ga/Hertz reference!
Haha, glad you liked it. Sounds like you're on my frequency! ;)
I'm an aspiring one any words of encouragement?
Radio nerd here, so I also appreciated the pun
The sound and animation are insane. The hud is also so immersive. Takes notes, AAA.
I've long stopped having any hopes for AAA titles and publishers. There is just no point. They will never try to do anything new. Just a copy of a copy to another copy.
Yeah, the hud these days looks more and more like advertising sites or mobile apps (hello Battlefield), you can tell right away who they're hiring.
One of the most awaited indie games ever since Hyper Light Drifter and Eastward. It looks like a masterpiece.
For real! Been waiting a long time for something to scratch that Hyper Light Drifter itch. Sadly, Eastward didn't do it for me.
Hyper Light Drifter is just something else, absolutely incredible game and story telling. I got to use it as a learning experience that changed the way I program from then on. I was very active in the GameMaker community when it was made and decompiled the early executable into the project file to take a look at the code. The way they used the engine and did certain things was genius and seeing what it took to make a full game and that it was possible inspired me to begin my own project that turned into writing my own 2D game engine. Then I saw the documentary with the creator and fell in love with it even more, his vision and life story are incredible. I did the same thing with the original Spelunky which is another amazingly coded game, like I remember being in awe of how the ledge grabs were done lol. I actually still have the GameMaker 8 project and source code sittin on my laptop for that one. I'll always be grateful to Alx Preston and Derek Yu for the masterpieces they made that taught me so so much 🙏
Personally, as someone who frankly hated HLD, I think this will be far more worth it.
What an interesting XP gain system
You cant just slaughter everything like a hack'n'slash
You have to *count*
Remember, *EXACTLY ZERO* to gain XP, otherwise its NULL
So you cant just Melee and pray.
Sometimes you need to shoot some potshot just to kill enemies right.
Also, love how the HUD is very crude, like a hastily programmed interface.
There is something about some weapons not overkilling enemies, so maybe it's more of a "kill enemies in a specific way to earn XP."
This game's atmosphere is perfectly unnerving, I love it. Also, our player character gives off big Quote from Cave Story vibes to me, which I love too.
This is an incredibly evocative, mysterious and beautiful world. I'm kind of glad there isn't much explanation of what's going on, it's more haunting this way.
The audio of this game takes me back to the days of component cables in the 2000s before HDMI came along. It genuinely feels like the game is being played on a CRT television from my childhood.
*Delicious CRT audio quality.*
What I really like is the aesthetic. The compressed audio and video static really gives a neat "remote" perspective.
It's like if you gave the old Legend of Zelda titles a post apocalyptic cyberpunk vibe, added with sounds and music to throw in some uneasy atmosphere. You're in an omni-present view of everything, but even with that you still have that creeping feeling. Choice stuff
"I blended classic Zelda and dark science fiction and drank the ensuing mixture. It was Radio the Universe."
honestly i really like that audio
it makes it sound like you’re effectively just monitoring someone’s movements with how it sounds like it comes through a security feed
Wow! I kickstarted this so long ago, it feels unreal to see it appear here.
Same here, super excited!
I remember the Kickstarter for this game from years ago. Back then they promised you could die in real life.
Now this is what I call standards. If any indie studio is to receive support, this is one of them.
It’s a solo dev
This reminds me a lot with Signalis (in a good way), the art style and atmosphere is great
After 10 years we finally get a public demo. I'm so hyped for this game!
Looks awesome getting real Blame! vibes, glad to see it coming together after long dev time well done for persevering
Agreed, the Tsutomu Nihei vibes of the game is just * chef kiss *
This feels very Hyper Light Drifter... only less colourful, obviously.
I love me a game that has a gritty aesthetic.
Finally I have confirmation that the project still alive.
Everything is so stunning, the highlight to me is the atmosphere, graphics and sfx. Again a great cover from ABG
Great, great demo. Long too.
Reminds a lot of Signalis aesthetically.
This looks gorgeous. They nailed it in the presentation department
The aesthetic gives off similar vibes to Signalis, and I love it.
Fantastic game. Finished the demo, cant wait for release. Thanks!
Man I backed this on KS. Looks great, will play the demo. 6e6e6e did an amazing job, and I hope they release the game soon.
This game has Wild Graphics
Blame! meets Nier ❤ this game looks, plays and sounds AWESOME! Loved the demo, can t wait to play full game
Astounding gameplay. This is one I'll definately buy.
Also, reminds me so much of the Chrono Trigger Future tilesets, hahah... you can almost spot "Robo" lying on a corner over there.
Sweet Jesus these animations are so fluid, this is definitely going on the list of games I’m eager to see succeed
Little Signalis - Zelda edition.
I love the art direction in this. There was clearly a lot of love put into it and I'm looking forward to the finished product ✨️
I was hoping to hear news about the game but to see this gameplay by one of my favorites of the medium of weird or occult games is the cherry on top. Thanks!
It's awesome. Incredibly awesome. The details of the world, the design, can be praised for a long time. But it's a game without a single word, which is cool. To show a mysterious world without using a single word.
4:35 (with quick calculus) thats over 8100 years
Huh, only 8100 years? I feel like I've been put on hold for longer than that while trying to contact my bank! :)
It's uint + 1 actually.
4 or 6 gauge hits hard
Love the art style and the CRT overlay!
So long... so wait... so good to see an update!
I'm literally with jaw to the floor over here. This game has been in development purgatory for over a decade and now I finally get to see a playable demo. It reminds me of Hyperlight Drifter but far more advanced in every visual and mechanical way.
I'll be waiting for the day the full game drops.
I will say the sword swing in HLD is sharp. This one looks kinda slow?
I got the Next Fest demo a few moments ago. I've had my eye on this for a long time.
I hope that the game will be released soon.
The 80s and 90s anime sound and compression, along with these graphics are incredible.
I get strong vibes of old scifi anime. Incredible work, i like sound and visuals so much!
Ohh...I'm waiting for this game for so long, so cool to see it in action!
This remind me of the manga named blame!
Sixesixesixe you're on the final stretch congratulations this looks excelent.
Oh my god she even has mechanical noises when running now
I've been waiting fo so long. I can't believe it is actually near its release.
The atmosphere and sound design is incredible.
It kinda makes me think of what a fusion of Elemental Gimmick Gear and Baroque would look like.
I'm getting BLAME! vibes and I love it.
The game's controls kind of remind me of super smash bros, with the charge attacks and variation of small/heavy attacks. There's definitely a lot of similarity with nier automata too but the game still changes the setting into something entirely of its own along with the top down platforming style. Amazing
I’m obsessed with pixel art and the HUD’s design to a jet’s screen. Dunkey should try out the demo!
Very cool art design
this game is beautiful.
This game reminds me of SIGNALIS.
This looks awesome
The art style is fantastic
Didn't know this game got a demo finally, saw this alongside replicant and hoped it would come out soon, need to scratch that itch
Feels like some cyberpunk anime of 90s baked into vidya. That delicious crunchy aesthetic of CRT computer monitors and dialing internet through something like public payphone, and some of the hostile robots looks like little brothers of spider tank Motoko Kusanagi brought down in the end of GitS.
Oh shit, the game has a playable beta now? Man it’s been years since I first saw the kickstarter
It looks more NieR:Automata vibe then I anticipate.
This has been on my wishlist for ages. Been wondering what happened to it
Reminds me of blame! To be honest and I love that
I was thinking the same thing when I saw the game. Blame!
Amazing art in this game aaaa
This is going to be so fukn WILD! I'm not on Twitter much, but this I follow. If E3 switches to cover more indie games I think they'd do just fine if they cover games link RTU!
Looks great. Also the wait time for the services is about eight millennia
This is beautiful
Damn good pixel art.
Reminds me of Contra with little stories like Nier.
Solid work hopping they release it soon.
That game looks great....but the pun at the end...hoo boy.
Wish to see full game! Hope it be full release despite thing I read in comments.
So many times you DON'T reduce the enemies to 0 HP, but overshoot. The sword does 2 damage - shoot until their health is even, then kill them.
Yes, it's probably more difficult while also trying to dodge.
Gotta say im a great fan of new intros an their jokes.
The indie game that I have most hype, still don't know exactly why, but in some aspects it reminds me of that sad aesthetic of Drakengard seires, and of course Nier, going to play the demo tomorrow, didn't knew it was already available
This game looks awesome
yo is this finally coming out???? goddamn, wrote it off almost a decade ago
You know if BLAME! is one of its inspirations?
Wait for 9 years fot this game
I love you, dog, but you use the gun just enough that you end up killing them on an odd number, not getting any pickups. I watched you not use the gun on the odders, and use it on the evens. I guess you don't need to, if you're gonna find huge stacks of cash in the corner anyway. Keep slaying, bro.
That's a game award winning for sure, but why it is not launched iet???😩
I was hoping for a Radio Gaga pun at the end.
Watching you fail repeatedly to get experience from the enemies was so frustrating haha
for somme reason i thought this was a little nightmares spinoff with the eye synbol, radio, and the yellow cloacked mc
Easy on the eyes, but sometimes hard on the ears
👍✌
Hope they port this to consoles
I seems like hard game, action and puzzle but can't tell direction location.
Considering the price and development time it better more than 10 hours unlike Scorn.
How many years has it been mannnn
I've waiting this game to release, can't describe my joy to play a demo finally, and it's simply wonderfull
Can somebody recommend me more cool demos to test out?
legend of zelda meets dark soul in a sci fi universe
your wait time is just shy of 8,166 years. but i may have hit the wrong keys in my calculator, its hard to say because its just so much time. and yet, it is still an average amount of wait time for any customer service line. go figure.
for three large robot heads, they sure had a blood curdling scream.
I see they finally made a game about working in an Amazon warehouse...
Haha, Amazon wouldn't waste the time actively trying to kill their workers with robots though. They know they'll die from malnourishment, stress and overexertion anyway! :)
@@AlphaBetaGamer they already introduced AI that counts up steps taken by a worker (this is measured by a smartwatch they must wear), number of items they processed, the time it took them to process each, and then automatically fires workers if it deems their performance below a certain standard.
It figures killing them and turning them into catfood is cheaper and turns a bigger profit instead of paying up severance packages.
Hold up.
Hold the fuck up.
Is it out? IS IT OUT!?
Okay, so it's not out yet, but there's a Steam demo now.
Weird that there were no Kickstarter updates about this.
This give me Nier vibes
The fact that you deliberately killed enemy to -1 HP just annoys me to no end. But I assume it's one of those "get perfect 0 on a test" scenario where you know and understand the mechanic but simply choose to handicap yourself instead. It is still extremely mind-wrecking to watch though.
Hai
No fall damage = immortality
