    My first Anton Rayne was a democratic Capitalist who ended up trying to stay the middle ground and passed a moderately reformed constitution, avoided the war with Runburg without any allies but was not elected in the reelection in which PFJJ came to power

    Great analysis! I have been playing Suzerain for a while, and it is awesome!
    My first Anton Rayne was a democratic Malenyevist (the game equivalent of communism) that basically became a flip-flop politician out of fear of losing support for either faction, I became really invested in his evolution. He ended up solving every single crisis that Sordland had during his goverment, but was heavily critisized by every single faction for his lack of conviction and in the end he lost the election and retired from politics (for good, I would like to think). Now I am playing with an Authoritarian Anton Rayne that heavily supports Sollism (basically, those that support the status quo created by Colonel Tarquin Soll), and I am attracted by how the game changes upon the choices you make: characters that were my allies became my enemies, and viceversa, crisis that I had to solve didn't happen, while others that I didn't even know existed suddedly became a problem. It is one of those games where replaying as a different character lets you know more and more about the game and its lore.
    The only thing I will add is that I don't think the game setting is relaying so much in Turkish history, but in the Finnish one: the hard relationship between Sordland and the expansionist Kingdom of Rumburg (Finland and Russia), the old Civil War between Communists and right-wing Nationalists (Finnish Civil War of 1918, but you could say the same about the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939 or the Greek Civil War of 1946-1949). But, most importantly, the hard position of Finland during the Cold War, as a neutral state between the Communist East and the Capitalist West, in a balance between each one out of fear of being attacked by either side. But surely, there are elements from the history of a lot of European countries, maybe it would be wrong to try to think of the setting in complete equivalence to the map of Europe during the Cold War. On my part, the first time I though about Colonel Soll, I related him to Charles de Gaulle, as this right-wing conservative politician that shaped the political system of his country as both its leader and a national hero, but I must say that your idea of relating him to Ataturk maybe is more fitting.

      First off, thanks for watching! Great game! As for the real history, there could very well some crossover with Finnish history, but my research showed me that at the very least, a lot of the domestic politics and figures represented many of the Turkish figures following the establishment of the Republic, coups and all. I dunno, it could be a blend at the end of the day, but either way, a really neat inclusion to deepen the game's world and strengthen the writing.

      Soll is basically a mix of Atatürk and Kenan Evren.

    I just have one question for you. Was your head tingling the whole time playing this? It felt stressful with the whole country on your shoulders. I wish to erase the game from my brain and go through that again

      If you're talking about the weight of decision-making, then yeah, a bit. I mean, I feel it a little bit for a lot of games that with branching paths and serious consequences for your decisions, but Suzerain ups the ante a little bit because it constantly makes you feel like every decision you make is the wrong one. Especially after I failed to reform the constitution. That was rough.

      @MalaysianChopsticks Рік тому +2

      @@CultoftheCyberSkull There is no right decision. My first playthrough got me no support in the government, a military coup and jailed 20 years. A total disaster.

      So, I have a few questions about suzerain, does sordland have a Senate and Congress? How big of a threat are the neighboring countries? Are there political debates? And lastly how hard is it to stay in power?@@CultoftheCyberSkull

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  5 місяців тому

      @@Brett-uq4tz One of the early goals is to negotiate a new constitution and that involves dealing with the leaders of a faction within your own party as well as an opposition party, so parliamentary politics plays a key role. There is also a late act military crisis that crops up, but dealing with it involves politicking your way out of it. Don't want to say too much about it, but yes, though it's a scripted story event. There are ways to lose the presidency, but again, don't want to say too much about it.

    Sounds interesting and its on a sale in gog. Does it have roguelike elements? Do events change each playthrough or does it follow linear path?

    • @CultoftheCyberSkull
      @CultoftheCyberSkull  Рік тому +3

      No roguelike elements and it's a linear story. The only thing you change are the outcomes or major events or triggering minor events to happen based on certain conditions. It's more of a VN than anything else.

    I got the game on sale on Steam for I think 4 or 5 dollars (US) and I have put 45hrs+ into it trying to get behind one playthrough I retired another I was forced out of power by the military. I'm also trying to do a nationalist/racist/sexist playthrough but it's tough for me to have Anton mistreat is wife as I like her character.

    If i played this game i would try to go full south Korea. Very corporatist and capitalist but with massive investment in education. While weakening the presidency to enable further democracy. In addition no previously marginalized groups would be left out after all they can't contribute to the economy if they have a terrible education.
