Hi there! My name is Andrea (my friends call me Dre). In this video we are going to share with you how to make amazing DIY fake cupcakes - they look so real & they last forever! I serioulsy have some cupcakes that I made from over 13 years ago - that is how long they last!
My kids, Azelynn & Greyson, are my big helpers and this is a great project to do with your kids or grandkids! We had such a blast & are happy to share our family memories with all of you!

Please check out my last video when you get a chance (affordable Christmas gifts) - I found an easier way to make these without the messy expansion foam (basically you can just use the top of a foam ball). I have been making these for some years now, they are so much fun and I make them for other people for birthdays too. They look so real got to watch the little ones so they don't try to take a bite.

Update: They turned out amazing! I brought them to work as Christmas gifts last year, and my coworkers were convinced they were treats for everyone. I had to tell them all not to eat them. 😅

Thanks for sharing can’t wait to try this! How many “cupcakes” can you get from 1-can of the foam? Aprox.
You can get a lot of cupcakes...probably 3 or 4 dozen. One bit of advice...do the fillings all at once. I tried re-using the foam and due to the foam expanding in the straw it landed up spraying everywhere. Some got in my hair and I had to cut it out...I am just thankful it didn’t get in my eyes. I know now not to try to save it to use for later.

Those would be amazing and you could probably just use the foam to make the entire thing (since the spackling “frosting” would get super expensive).
Adorable family .. I faux bake with gap and crack filler foam and sometimes I can’t get them smooth. They come out lumpy…How did you get them so smooth???

Ah your comment made my day! 🥰 I have never had to seal the ornaments - I have had some fake cupcakes I made over 10 years ago and they still look the same. I just store these as well in Tupperware bins in my garage.

Use polymer clay sprinkles they won't bleed snd they're super easy to make

Is sparkling okay to use for children (touching )?
Hi there - my kids help me with my projects all the time. They have touched it and we’ve had no problems. I just ensure they wash their hands afterwards and aren’t putting fingers near their mouths during projects. 😊
Do you have a hexagon piece of firm paper in the bottom of the cupcake liners?
Yes I do - just to help the expansion foam hold its “cupcake” shape. I really wish I would have mentioned that part. It is just a piece of cardstock - I would have used a circle punch but all I had on hand is a hexagon punch. You could also just free hand cut a circle piece of card stock. 👍

Yes like a thin cardboard - you could even use a cereal or cracker box to make the shape - really anything that would give the base of the cupcake that circle look at the bottom. 😉
Mam...can we use shaving foam instead...i have tried watching this....and its still.....im waiting💕
I wouldn’t use shaving foam because they will just deflate. You can use styrofoam balls, fabric foam or maybe even paper mache.
what is the shelf life for fake foam cup ckes
Hi Martha - I have some I made still from 15 years ago! The colored spackling has faded a bit - but that is it!
Why mine dry only outside no inside 😭???? I used the same like you 🥺
What is the foam?
The foam is called "gap & & crack foam" or "expanding foam". There are several different brands. It can be found at the store in the home repair section and the foam has a long straw that connects to it for spraying.
Hi , I love your cupcakes, I actually made some but weeks later they were all cracked , what can I do to prevent that please help my daughter is so sad.
Maggie - thank you for watching my video and I am so sorry they cracked. Let’s see if we can figure out why. Did the top fake spackling crack or the foam on the bottom? If it is the fake frosting portion - do you live in a humid area? I was reading that humidity can cause the spackle to expand and then when it gets cold it contracts again and that may be causing the cracking. I live in dry NM, so maybe that is why I didn’t have this issue. I actually still have some fake cupcakes I made from 10 years ago that are still in good shape. If it is the fake frosting that cracked - I would pull the cracked frosting off and try again but maybe find a spot where there is little moisture and they can dry properly. I hope this helps and let me know if it works. 😀
Good morning, thank you so much for answering , it was the sparkling that cracked , It’s actually not humid , but I did put them in a cabinet next to the stove so I’m thinking that might of been it 😩
It is the worst when the kids are upset too about their creations. I hope it works out if you store them some place different. I let mine dry in the garage. Also I use the brand Fast N Final lightweight spackle (it comes in a white tub with a red lid) that you can get from Walmart or Home Depot. Good luck and I hope they turn out. 🥰

Oh no I am sorry. Is your frosting tip large enough? I usually use a XL (1m) tip.
a unicel ball over the cupcake paper with glue can reduce costs and time, but it is a nice video
Thank you for watching and agreed...I made an updated video (Christmas gift ideas) that shows a foam ball cut and placed in the cupcake tin...it works just as great and no messy expansion foam to work with! 🙌🏼
I loved this video and followed everything step by step but my cupcakes haven’t dried and it’s been over 24hrs 🥺 I don’t want all my hard beautiful work to go to waste.
Oh no! Question - do you live in a moist or humid environment? Someone else who lives in Florida messaged me with the same problem. Make sure your cupcakes are in a very dry area…maybe in a garage or even a cupboard. As a last ditch resort…I think I would even attempt using a blow dryer to dry them. So basically there was absolutely no point in painting the foam wasting tan/khaki paint if you are just going to cover them with the spackling
No not really but my kids had fun painting with me - so that made it worth it.
