Yes sir knockoff water filters started being a problem a couple of years back. They used to not be an issue however once the aftermarket sellers started becoming sloppy with their manufacturing and their knock off filters started causing water leaks on refrigerators within the manufacturer's warranty the manufacturers took notice and started to do something about it. Great way to combat sellers that are ripping off consumers.
question now I bought mine at Lowes, it does not appear to have the chip? Is it an older filter? Do these after market filters even come in the ge boxes?
In your video, you show the box that says genuine GE refrigerator water filter XWFE, is that the original GE filter or is that the knock off because we have the same exact one?
My Mother stupidly bought a pack and of course they do not work. If this is happening to us then I am sure it is widespread. Someone with an account on Amazon needs to report it to Amazon.
if you get a replacement cheap replacement carefully hot water maybe hair blower remove the label Mark Mark Mark exactly Mark exactly where the RFID chip is pull the label off pull the rfdi chip off and replace it on the cheap filter exactly exactly exactly where it was.... some say take the label off and press it up against the inside of the refrigerator that would be kind of tacky for me
GE will send you the bypass for free.. and if you talk real nice and pleasant and make the girl laugh and everything she might send you the filter for free
Thanks for this video, just confirmed this is the case. Now we get to turn these you-know-what sellers into the FTC.

I have a generic filter the water works but the ice maker does not. Could the generic filter be the cause of ice not working!
