They are releasing a "modern" Dir en Grey single on April 24th and there will probably be a music video so you can go for it ;)
It is a new remake of a 1999's song but still great ♡
So of the top of my head, Dir en grey was formed in 1997, but their proper debut came in 1999 with 3 singles, Yurameki [the one you heard here], Zan [which did receive a remake already in 2009 (?) for the Hageshi sa... single] and Akuro no Oka, all being 3 separate releases yet released on the same day, 19990120 is a 25 years commemoration single which rerealsed all 3 songs as remakes while still keeping a large part of the identity of how they sounded back when they were released in 1999, so this is more of a taste of their old sound, as for what was their latest released piece of music then I would direct you to 2023's Phalaris album.
As others said this is a remake of their old single from 1999. Also this is a radio edit of the song. It's really about 2 minutes longer. If you listen to Zan, also a remake from this EP, that's going to have a heavier sound that you're more used to.
They've always done multiple styles with every release so it's not really possible to tell what direction they're going in. Sukekiyo - Candis and Petit Brabancon - Koku were released almost simultaneously and Kyo is like a completely different person in each. Kyo and all his bands are all over the place all the time.

No they're not switching up styles this is a remake of their 3 singles from 1999. Nice remastering 👌 but I feel like you'd like the new version of ZAN than this song 🥲
