    Kyo inhabits his song. He really lives the lyrics out there. He pulls real pain out and wears it.
    It's solace and comfort to those of us who live that pain daily.
    There's a story when asked why he screams like that, he answered he screams for those who can't. That's the appeal for a lot of us. That's our pain too.
    Here's another "softer" song.
    Ain't afraid to die.
    I'd recommend doing a comparison like you did with Vinushka as a lot of the studio elements don't make it to the live version (child choir for example) plus the video clip is gorgeous.
    But the live of course is where the rawness and emotion hits different.
    The guitars shine in this version so it's my favourite.
    Also subtitles! Yay!

    For the studio just grab any of the PV versions, just make sure it's not the recent remake. You want the older version for the comparison.

      For some reason Kyo just hits me in every song. And for what he said in that story it makes me respect him so much more than I already do!

    This was a great entry into their 'softer' side! I love the guitars in Tousei as well :D
    Jeremy surprised me with his pause! But he is totally right ^^ on stage you can read every thought and emotion from Kyo's face and you can hear it in his voice as well. That's what makes him truly special as a vocalist in my opinion. It's impossible to watch him and not feel confronted with ones own problems/sorrows/pains and hopes. I think way too many people aren't able to express themselves in daily live, mostly because its deemed inappropriate by society and on stage Kyo gives a voice and face to that dilemma. Like Pointlesswasteoftime wrote he screams for everyone who cannot but he screams also for himself. When I see him in interviews and look around my own environment I cannot help thinking how mad society makes us all by forcing us to suppress a 'natural', controlled outburst of emotions; whether that in the end leads to the uncontrolled outbursts that often manifest themselves in violent behavior towards others as they seem to be the 'oppressive' force. We all play a role in that whether by conforming to those norms or by enforcing them. Some countries/societies are stricter in this than others but to some degree its always there, especially when it conflicts with a person's ability to work 'efficiently'. The history of psychology is an interesting field to look into when it comes to that.
    Kyo's lyrics work best in my opinion when you interpret them for yourselves and just go with whatever images and thoughts come to you while listening to them in connection to the instrumentation and melody. He very rarely talks about a songs more specific meaning or an intention he had while writing.

      @GeneraIHide Рік тому +3

      One thing, I dont think I would say their lives are better than their studio versions in most cases. I think thats a rule that applies to most bands, its just that DEG is such a performative band and Kyo is such a mesmerizing frontman that when they have a good live version of a song, its an absolute must watch.
      But I absolutely suggest listening to the studio versions and comparing cause you hear a lot of nuances you don't get from the lives, and some songs just don't have better lives online

    I believe Kyo has used his personal relationship dissapointment as inspiration for lyrics. He also uses political corruption, and society's hypocrisy and/or indiference to others suffering. If you want to listen to slower songs by them, I highly recommend:
    Hotarubi
    Mushi
    Zakuro
    Akuro no Aka
    Ain't Afraid to Die
    Glass skin
    Ware Yami Tote
    Ranuculus

    Unless someone out there will correct me, in which case I've been living a lie for fifteen years now lol- his name is pronounced kee-yo. Like if you're saying yo and stuck a k in front!
    And in case you get curious about the rest and my super dumb pronunciation guide:
    Bassist is Toshiya (toe-shee-yah)
    Drummer is Shinya (shin-yah)
    Lead guitarist is Kaoru (cow-roo)
    Rhythm guitarist with the sleeveless shirt is Die (yes said just like that)
    And I wanted to say Kyo always puts his emotions ful throttle into a performance. You've been suggested the stuff where he's at his healthiest and vocally on point, but even here and in so many other songs the technical vocals go sideways either due to damage (which he always channels into powerful performances anyway) or emotional context and MAN. It's worth sacrificing perfect technique for seeing someone let their heart bleed onto the stage. I've been to about 6-8 shows, at least once for every American tour, and it's a mesmerizing performance from all of them. Definitely all the songs are always better live.

      @moshpitreactions  Рік тому

      @ohcomeongetoutofhere Рік тому

      @@moshpitreactions to add something, Kyo took his stage name from his home town Kyoto. And Kaoru is pronounced more like Kah-oh-roo, if we try to pronounce it faster like Cow-roo, it won't feel right. Because Toshiya's real name is Toshimasa, people think Die is funky spelling of the Japanese name Daisuke, but rumor says that's not his real name either. FYI Japanese artists often use stage names. Apparently Kaoru said only he is using his real name, but i feel like Shinya must've too, so i guess it's 50-50.

    I'm so happy you picked one of their more ballady type of songs next! It was really nice to hear your thoughts and tastes. You picked the right live version, too: this is by far the most emotionally charged version of Tousei they ever recorded. I could give a bunch of song suggestions for their ballads but I think you already have enough for the time being. But I _would_ like to give an upvote to "mushi" which has my favourite guitar solo of all times. You basically have four live versions to choose from for this one. The one from _Blitz 5 Days_ is the most intense and one of the most difficult Dir en grey performances to watch, the one from _5 Ugly Kingdom_ has the best instrumentation in my opinion and the right amount of emotion while the one from _In Weal or Woe_ is an acoustic version that gives a different sound to the guitar solo which is really nice but maybe not recommendable for a first reaction to the song. The newest from their _mode of [Kisou]_ tour that comes with Kaya's translation is the weakest and the solo is a bit different so I wouldn't go with that one but if you do I'm still happy to see a reaction to that song at all😆
