I had this cartoon as a kid on a VHS tape of public domain Christmas- and winter-themed cartoons. The songs have stuck in my head all these years. It was the first time I heard the name "Ub Iwerks" even before I knew he was the co-creator of Mickey Mouse. Thanks, Ub Iwerks and Carl Stalling, for the memories. With and without Walt Disney, those men made magic.
Awesome when mama bear put's baby through the wringer + the soul pumpkin dude..my dad was two year's old when this was made!! we used to watch this + other Christmas Fav's. MERRY CHRISTMAS-07!! god bless you thank's for posting this!!
What a clever little cartoon~ Thanks! I have not seen this before ,quite "scary" though, but I love the sequence with the pumpkins and scarecrows and trees , it reminds me of the skeleton dance from Silly symphonies.FAB.
Man I lived this movie growing up the one thing that stuck out in my mind all these years was the spanking she gave him and Jack Frost turning the bars into candy canes
OMG! Thank you! Do you know how long I've been looking for this cartoon? I love it! The scarecrow dance cracks me up every single time. I have no idea what he's saying but his dancing in hot! xD
"I don't have to worry, I don't have to care, my coat is very furry, I'm grizzly grizzly bear!" He was singing that until Old Man Winter came. At 7:14 he sings a different song entirely: "Dear Mister Frost, I'm sorry; O help me out, please do! Take me home to my nice warm bed; I'm freezing through and through!"
Last time I saw this I was about six or seven years old. They used to show this stuff every morning so kids could watch it before school started. I remember thinking that the scarecrow is really cool and "Oh come on bear! Home ain't that bad??!!"
I'm 15, turning 16 next year. I don't know why or how I had access to this vhs as a kid and what else was on it other than this 8 minute animation.. Nonetheless, I've been looking for this for the past 6 months because I randomly remembered it from watching as a kid and I finally found it and I'm freaking out. It was so creepy to me but I watched it over and over again and now I'm having this weird nostalgic anxiety watching it now. It's a lovely scary feeling.
"I don't have to worry, I don't have to care, my coat is very furry I'm a grizzly grizzly Bear." I still quote that every once in a while That scarecrow is absolutely EVIL!!! XD
Anyone remember watching this on vhs back in like the late 80s...and i think there was two cartoons on it....this one and one about food coming alive at night and there was good cops that, popped an corn on the cob?
I had a vhs collection with this movie as a child I remember it had a gumby cartoon on it and then it also had the black and white little girl one and my favorite was a skit where a daughter gets stolen so the mom prevents flowers from blooming, etc. if anyone remembers please help!!!! would love to bring my childhood back to life !
Animal Fun Fact: This cartoon was featured in the Shining Time Station episode, "Achoo", when Stacy told Mr. Conductor the story of Li'l Sneezer (not to be confused with the Tiny Toon Adventures character of the same name).
Okay guys I need your help please. WHen I was a child in the early 90s I owned a vhs tape called VideoToons, it had this and Jack and the Beanstalk on it as well as two others that I can't remember, I would love it if someone had any more information about this tape. I loved it as a kid and everyone loves nostalgia. Thanks in advance. Peace
❤ the holy different animals in this picture and Jack Frost was a wise person in this cartoon ❤ the holy different colors in this picture 💕 the holy back ground in this picture 💕 the holy different things in this picture
Please help me! I'm looking for this, along with a bunch of other christmas shorts that were all on a single vhs tape. I remember there was one with a black and white video where a guy was singing the 12 days of Christmas and some lady was dancing. There was also one about some candle maker and his son and a mouse. If anyone knows more about these I'll be so thankful.
joshman783 oh my gosh I know exactly the one you mean! I can't remember the title because I was too young to read when I watched it, but I used to watch it at my grandparents' house!
me too! did you also enjoy "Somewhere in Dreamland"? that, and this, were my favourites - I had them all on a VHS somewhere - although Old Man Winter scared the crap out of me and my little brother hahaha. I think my mum got the tape from an American friend whose children had got too old for it.
I've finally got an 8mm of this in the mail today, and it was the Castle Films print, and it is extremely rare. You don't see the Castle Films version of any of the Christmas VHS tapes. It had the Castle Films titles instead of the ComiColor titles, but this version retained its original titles, not Castle. I watched it for the first time on 8mm and it was good, but there was one missing was the ending. If you go to 8:15, you will see the original end title, the Castle Films version does nothing! It cuts off where it goes to a title card that says "The End" before Jack used a paintbrush and wrote "Finis" on the window. What a waste of editing.
Ok i absolutely hated the trees and pumpkins but loved the scarecrow what Shakespeare play is it from? I know it has to do with a cab. Is it much ado about nothing ? Somebody please help me cause I can't remember.
Ps. I don't know much about Shakespeare i only remember reading Macbeth in school and to be honest I didn't understand It they sure talked funny back then
I guess I'm the only one who finds the scarecrow and the ..singing trees creepy now. o_O I used to really like them as a kid but now ... no they're creepy looking
schöner Film... aber der Stil sieht mir so ein bischen nach den Fleischer Brüdern aus - und manchmal frag ich mich wirklich was die so gekifft haben /-:
7:35 That part, right there, where he’s licking the candy and it melts through...that’s one of my earliest memories as a child. No idea why.

menslady125 Yup. That's some grade-A shit talkin.' And to such an impressionable youngster.
I'd like to think he's based on Cab Calloway.
Remember, kids. ice + paint = yum.
My fav cartoon 2019 anyone??
I love this cartoon. I watched it a lot around christmas time, as a child. It is great.
Although this is much older classic, I loved this in the 90s as a child. Now my 7 year old loves it just as much.
i was searching this for a long time. thank you for uploading my childhood memories. it was my second most favorite one. ❤️
What a clever little cartoon~ Thanks! I have not seen this before ,quite "scary" though, but I love the sequence with the pumpkins and scarecrows and trees , it reminds me of the skeleton dance from Silly symphonies.FAB.

I always loved watching this on my kindle fire
"I don't have to worry, I don't have to care, my coat is very furry, I'm grizzly grizzly bear!" He was singing that until Old Man Winter came. At 7:14 he sings a different song entirely: "Dear Mister Frost, I'm sorry; O help me out, please do! Take me home to my nice warm bed; I'm freezing through and through!"
Feels like crying to see this again 😭😭
That's My Grandpa Favorite Cartoon When He Was Back in 1950s
Last time I saw this I was about six or seven years old. They used to show this stuff every morning so kids could watch it before school started. I remember thinking that the scarecrow is really cool and "Oh come on bear! Home ain't that bad??!!"

one of these is ''the goddess of spring'', a Disney Silly Symphony. hope that helps
I have this tape! There's also a little girl who's mean to her old toys, and a man singing the 12 days of Christmas, right?
Animal Fun Fact: This cartoon was featured in the Shining Time Station episode, "Achoo", when Stacy told Mr. Conductor the story of Li'l Sneezer (not to be confused with the Tiny Toon Adventures character of the same name).
CHILDHOOD
Stalling uses his typical musical scores, as he did with Warners. He uses songs for themes (i.e., the bears going to bed), it plays "Brahm's Lullaby".
I love that part on 2:06
the cartoon was ahead of its time
SUPER!...

Nostalgia
I'm English but the person I mentioned was leaving Hong Kong (where we lived at the time) and was getting rid of things like old tapes.
@ Liz Barakjas I've googled keywords of a cartoon and several postings came up with the name of the cartoon...GOOD LUCK!
regardless as to how many logical fallacies are contained within such a statement.
you deserve a medal for that one! xD
You’re going to have to lick the paint off of these icicles if you want out... ILL DO IT!!!
omg i know right. I hated watching this by myself as a child.. old man winter was a scary man. lol.

Is the scatting scarecrow at 4:47 Cab Calloway?
2:26: Dat's assault, Sistah!
I wonder who voiced Jack Frost and Old Man Winter in this animated short?
Billy Bletcher may have voiced Old Man Winter, but I'm not entirely sure.
is it just me or does the small cub sound like Kimba?
This fucked me up as a kid. XD
30 year ago i see thes film in sirya
what did the scarecrow say?
He was reciting Shakespeare, specifically a scene with Cab "Caliban" Calloway...
HAHA HUMAN SPIRIT AT ITS MOST ELEGANT PHASE OF HUMAN EXISTENCE! MAGNIFICA!
I guess I'm the only one who finds the scarecrow and the ..singing trees creepy now. o_O I used to really like them as a kid but now ... no they're creepy looking

an american friend? what nationality are you? :3
How did they watch these back in the 30s when they didn't even have color TV?
I would imagine it was on film tape and showed on a projector, not a television.
Movie theaters. they usually showed cartoons and newsreels before the main movie
