Proud owner of my 2010 matte screen MacBook Pro 15" running MacOS Ventura via Open Core, damn Roblox with low graphics on your Mac made me feel nostalgic.
you know whats funny i'm useing this model in 2024 and watching this video on it :) and i have a new pc but i like the classices i been keeping mine clean and good
Salvaged one of these out of recycling at work. Definitely needs an ssd and RAM upgrade. Probably just going to toss a linux distro (since testing it with one seems to work well). Never been a Apple guy but this machine is pretty sexy.
I also have give 2 MBPs a second live. Open Core legacy patcher will fix the outdated OS. By the way why you installed the new SSD/HDD without the screws?
This piece of device could run to the latest macOS version support through OCLP Big Sur cause Monterey had issues on graphics..same like the 2011 models..mine had been upgraded to the Catalina Patcher due to its unsupported graphics but still can runs well under it in 2023.
It depends on the model, but on most models you can boot to a USB if you hold alt/option while its turning on. I just made a bootable usb on another mac.
I was thinking of purchasing a mid 2010 model off of Ebay. The plan was to replace the battery for a brand new one and swap the hard drive with an 8gb SSD. Do you recon AutoCAD would run on it or not?
The 2010 models are very lacking by today's standards. I think the shipping costs alone wouldnt be worth it :( Try to find a newer model locally or for a low price on ebay
The weird ram config it's because of the ram speed support of that Macbook, as long as you keep one of the og 2gb sticks, you can up it to 18gb of ram, running of course at 1333mhz, sadly for as much as I love that model, it's very dated nowadays, YT playback even at 720p skips frames constantly, being on High Sierra don't leave you much of a supported apps anyway :( I have one that even refuses to install the OS (I had to try with a distro and change it's model to either an older or newer) but it's cool to try projects like OpenCore or any Linux distro you feel tempted to try (likely to work better) or even MiniOS (Windows 10/11 heavily modified) The screen looks fantastic tho, and gets super bright for a 2010 computer in general terms
I didnt know that, interesting :o Yeah if this model had better specs, it def would've survived a little longer into the modern era. The rest of the laptop is really high quality compared to even the best budget laptops these days. (It is HEAVY though 🙃)
@@random-thing1 Oh no absolutely, I have a Macbook 12" 2015 and the change it's absolutely mind blowing, but for what the 2010's were, they still better screen than a lot of entry level model laptops
I have a mid 2012 that has the same specs as my mom's 14 inch macbook pro, 1TB ssd and 16gb of ram :p yes it is old, but with opencore, these macs can run anything you want! En leuk dat je nederlands spreekt, belgie of nederland?
5:00 I think this test is bit unfair cuz you used old safari on this one You can put modern browser on there (chromium legacy port) and it should run way faster
@@crimsontechyt My MacBook does not respond to any of the combinations. I even connected it to the Internet through a cable. In the variant with a flash drive, only the cursor appears, it does not see the flash drive itself, and the indicator on the nose itself does not light either
@Dolor988 I had the same issue with a 2018 MBP... Did you FULLY reset the laptop, even formatting the SSD? Because if that's the case, it may not be able to boot from an USB, since there's no admin account available to enable that setting :/
@@crimsontechyt I have a new SSD. And the MacBook itself did not want to boot from its HDD. The system was loaded for 40 minutes, and still did not work. When I bought it, the battery didn't work either, but it started after a long charge. In general, I decided to sell it for parts. But thank you for the advice
I have the same machine with 16GB OWC RAM and a Seagate 1TB SSHD. Ubuntu Budgie is the perfect companion of this old Mac (I not recommend to use Legacy Patcher to install a newer version of macOS than High Sierra due the lack of metal graphic libraries support for the Nvidia 320M and software compatibility). Ubuntu Budgie 22.04 LTS in very smooth, up to date (everything works like a charm) and you can easily install a Mac OS theme, gestures support for the trackpad… very stable and beautiful. WiFi is not recognised at first boot but you can easily fix that, you must also install Nvidia Legacy drivers for beautiful animations like the genie window minimising. Even printing on my new wireless Megatank Canon printer works, file sharing… Enjoy this beautiful MacBook with a good keyboard for everyday use (I can’t speak English very well, sorry about that) ua-cam.com/users/shortsLzlJY6x4Dms?si=N1O1dJOilsZwowzU

MBP 2010 High Sierra 10.13.6, 16GB ram, 200GB SSD. Tested worked fine, on GIG wifi network. Gifted it to my folks. Would I buy one in 2024? Prob not.
You left a similar comment on another video, Are you trolling man?
No I wouldn’t buy one… turns out it won’t work with their current HP printer -High Sierra is too old.
I thought max is 8?

I didn’t expect the speak to work on these old macbook lmao
Very well edited. Good video!
Thank you! :D

Ooo i'll try it out! Yeah i installed it without the screws, but it's probably smarter to use them, so it wont rattle around in there

Do you mind sharing how you installed MacOS on it? I am planning to get one from a seller but he says he can't get the bootable usb to work

That's why the 2011 is still quite capable to thrive in 2023 running OpenCore with a most recent OS :)
The i5 models are such a game changer for these machines, i love how long the 2011 and 2012 have survived

Did this with my folks old Mac and it will not connect to WiFi and even Ethernet will not connect to Apple Store to update iOS? Thoughts?
Was that a rest button on the side? I have the exact same one.
Can you recommend an external hard drive for mbp 15" Mid 2010? Thank you
What is that big thing above the SSD slot?
It's DVD /CD drive

you know, WHEN THEY MADE REPAIRABLE LAPTOPS??
How were you able to install Mac os?? I've been suffering for 2 weeks, and nothing
I simply inserted a USB with MacOS burned to it, held the keys to boot from USB, and followed the installation wizard :o
What part are you stuck at?

Yeah, you convinced me NOT to get one. Good call though.
your mac can only have 8gb of ram if you have more than 8 your mac will not boot and there will smoke and burn
Who told you that
Not true
