    The Daiwa legalis is hands down best budget real I’ve ever used. The drag is very good super smooth all around a dream to fish with. Definitely a reel to check out for people not wanting to break the bank. Great video as always Deebo keep up the great work.

    I just picked up a pair of the Lew's Custom Lite rods, one casting and one spinning. So far I've fished the casting rod, 7ft, medium heavy, fast, paired with my Daiwa SV TW, spooled with 12lb test fluorocarbon, to a 1/2 oz Thunder Cricket with Mr. Twister Curly tail, and had a great day. I'm very happy I brought this rod.

      @titaniumcrayon3090 3 місяці тому +1

      Be careful with the 12lb line. That lure will most likely snap off. I usually use like a 30-40lb braid to a 14lb leader. That way if it gets in some grass or I hook a true giant I can bury that hook deep.
      But if you’re killing it with 12lb then by all means.

      @titaniumcrayon3090 3 місяці тому +1

      I just noticed what reel you were using and I completely agree with the line size….maybe just straight 14lb Fluoro…I’m scared for ya 😂

    • @134rwa
      @134rwa 3 місяці тому

      I really appreciate your advise. I've had 14lb test fluorocarbon on that reel before, but didn't like it, might have been just the brand I was testing with. So far I haven't had any issues with the 12lb test, and on most of the hook sets they were pinned good. However, when the grass there gets really thick and matted, I'll definitely be going back to braid, 40 or 50lb test.@@titaniumcrayon3090

    • @134rwa
      @134rwa 3 місяці тому

      @@titaniumcrayon3090 I really do love braid, but I've noticed the fluorocarbon has better manners on the spool, Haha. Oh, one of the things I did that gives me a little more confidence with the 12lb fluoro, is I started using the San Diego Jam Knot, a very strong knot.

    Hey Debo: I got the BASS X when the logo was blue. Then they went to gaudy green. And now they're using red (FYI: the reason for the red is to match nicely with first time ever St. Croix "SEVIIN" reels).

    I bought the lews custom lite 7 3 md/heavy. Paired with a custom SLP reels sleek blacked out combo. The rod is definitely stiffer. Feels like a heavy. It’s a tad heavy in weight too. The reel seat also seems to be a tad too high so it runs a lil weird in your hands. Regardless still a good rod

    Debo, as a bank beater, often getting thru the trees is tough so I have a Medium 6'-6" 2 pc. Daiwa Arid-X paired with the previous model Daiwa Regal LT 2500D-XH, and I also have a St. Croix 2 pc. 6'-6" Triumph Med Light paired with a Daiwa Exceler LT 2500-XH. While I think that cut-out on the reel seat of the Arid-X does aid in sensitivity, I agree the full reel seat my St. Croix, feels a little bit better and I'm not second guessing how I hold it. Love the Video.

      True, but I prefer cork. Only one rod I own has cork over the reel nut. It's a shame that more companies don't cover the reel nut, much cleaner look in my opinion, and a better purchase when you go to tighten it.

    ^ I’ve given up on buying budget gear, every time I do it ends in disappointment. I bought an Okuma 7’11” Heavy modfast Guide Select Custom Black from TW. The rod looks fantastic, the blank is terrible,heavy, and floppy imo, so I replaced it with KGB 7’11” XH modfast absolutely fantastic rod and worth every penny of it’s 325 price tag.

    I like $200-250 range for a combo. As a bank angler there’s so much out there now. … great video … as far as gen 5 revo goes, I wish they kept the locking centrifugal brakes, because on the gen 4 I only keep 2 internal brakes on. Other than that it’s a comfortable reel that is a caster. … I can’t wait to try abu’s x or sx spinning reels, they look good

    I bought a Sedona (3000) for a Medium Fast set up a couple of years ago and have been quite happy with it. I would probably replace the rod before the reel 😆. I picked up a Daiwa Laguna (1000) for an UL setup that’s working well but I wonder if I’ll run into durability issues, but nothing so far. I’m interested to see how they both compare to the Daiwa Fuego (2500) I bought for a dedicated Ned setup. Feel like not an apples to apples comparison, but maybe I won’t notice much as much of a difference as I expect 🤷🏻‍♂️.

    That old version Bass X with that ugly lime green color was absolute garbage. I bought a 6’6 medium fast casting rod for poppers and small walking baits and while I was fighting a bass the locking nut for the reel broke so I had to hold the reel against the rod to land the fish. Sent it back to TW, they sent me another one and it did the same exact thing. Called TW they let me upgrade to a Mojo and just pay the difference. I’ll never buy another Bass X again and most likely won’t buy another St. Croix. Learned my lesson, I’ll stick to Daiwa and Shimano.

    Overall, as I am a taller guy who is a jerkbait afficionado, I'm disappointed in st croix's rod lengths. 6'8" is too short for me and the 7'1" rods they have are too long.

    Love the gear talk ! Just picked up that Shimano reel ( on sale at Bass Pro for $50) and so far so good

    I have been seeing a bunch of videos challenging the "common knowledge" of fluorocarbon lines. Basically testing stretch and abrasion resistance compared to mono. Curious what your take is on that. Maybe a video idea where you fish one of each without knowing what is spooled up?
