I like how henry interviewed mansion, he didn't do what news casters do, he didn't talk over him or interrupt him, he sat their and took it all in without saying a word
That is the mark of a professional who wants his audience to understand something about his interviewee, and his guest to get points across, and doesn't let his ego get in the way.
Whether or not you like either of these guys' music, they're both really strong characters, they think before they speak, and they believe what they speak. It's refreshing.
What scares me, is how fake everything is getting, and the faker and cheaper everything gets, the more people seem to like it. Even the food is getting worse. However there are things that are getting better but at what cost.
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of his music, but he has got to be one of the most articulate and intelligent sounding rock artists out there. It's really refreshing to see someone in the music business sound so smart in his interviews.
Rollins usually seems genuinely interested in what his guests have to say and I like that. As for Manson, I think what he said will definitely resonate when he is dead, despite all the shit that happened to him during his career or whatever he did and said, he will always ultimately be an artist. This was a really good interview!
"How much more can the common man be manipulated? How much further can the government go?" Two excellent questions with, as it turns out, truly discouraging answers.
Actually, he often listens to what others have to say, in debate shows, which he is often drawn into he's always polite with other people's points of view. His dress sense is possibly his most powerful asset. His image draws attention and outrage, but when parents confront him, he can always engage them civilly and answer eloquently on behalf of a largely misunderstood subculture.
I just want to run into marilyn on the street, grab his shoulders and say, "THANK YOU FOR SAYING ALL OF THIS!!!!!" everything he says about creativity and politics is so true
Why would you wish that on someone? He has a different thought process and his art is raw emotion and you are sitting on a computer trying to tear him down, at least he is creating something. Love it or hate it, it is art and he is contributing to society and he is inspiring.
Don't love his music, but man is he bright with everything and lyrics are great. He is a great guy and even if I don't like his music. He is a great artist and a great speaker.
I always thought, like Manson said, that calling yourself an artist at a young age is pretentious... if you paint, create music dance or whatever that dosent make you an artist, "Artist" is a strange subjective word, today it's used regardles of the quality of the "artists" work. Well but Manson is an artwork just being true to himself.
It all comes down to intention, a true artist could call themself an artist without hesitation or shame whereas a person who just wants people to know they are an artist would bring it up with that intention. Food for thought; What is the difference between acting and action?
That's because being an artist is not something you choose it is who you are it's not a matter of accomplishment but rather a strong pull towards the unknown. My Personal definition for it is being in love with chaos/The desire to conquer it BUT very important with the GREATEST respect for it. Being In love with Chaos is not something you choose it's a straight love for trouble & you're willing to give everything for it, precisely you GOT to give up the idea of any kind of security to be able to embrace it fully since it is by itself everything of uncertainty. I think a really trustworthy factor to identify an artist is this willingness to sacrifice it's own security for that pull. I don't think a sacrifice of that importance can be made except if it is made for pure & simple Love. . Edit: I did a quick search right after writing this & stumbled across this : books.google.ca/books?id=qQzi_NzxKUgC&pg=PA200&lpg=PA200&dq=willingness+to+sacrifice+security+art&source=bl&ots=BA8OXBo9ap&sig=WiWzoMfneD1umj9IHtQRsNF9dTg&hl=fr&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiryOSy4azdAhUhzlkKHSs3C7IQ6AEwDHoECAIQAQ#v=onepage&q=willingness%20to%20sacrifice%20security%20art&f=false It's only a quick paragraph, might be more articulated than mine I haven't slept for 2 days so my frame of mind is kinda loose loll
Rollins made it very clear that he was there for the troops, not for the war. The troops don't decide where they go and Rollins has always been anti-Iraq war. Not only that,he was invited by the USO because Rollins was a name that kept popping up when troops requested guests. He even asked the USO if they were sure they wanted him to come because of his opinions. They said it was cool so he went. The 'corporate' troops bombing poor people is just a gross simplifcation from a simple mind.
Henry Lawrence Garfield, más conocido como Henry Rollins (13 de febrero de 1961, Washington D. C.), es un vocalista, músico, actor, humorista y activista político estadounidense.
I think this interview can be interpreted as "boring" to some people because in the contrast of Rollin Manson seems to be reverting back the inner child. I noticed that he wanted to grasp his perceptions a bit more than he could in the end and he was completely honest, the reality of the rock star.
its rare to see a respectful interview where the interviewer likes Manson, although, i dont know if its just me, but i think manson seems to enjoy the opportunity to be challenged in interviews rather than just having a conversation
somehow of all the rockers ive heard speak, even though i admittedly have never listened to mansons music (im more a roses and stones/ roses/ beatles person) but i really likr to hear manson speak.
4.10- "being disappeared" ahhaha this dude cracks me up.. but yee it was a good interview.. manson is a genius, and the interviewer is good because he does listen to the answers to his questions unlike alot of Fox's interviewers
U can tell that people who dress as Goths and Emo's are people who are lost in a sense where they don't know who they are or where they belong, just as I said about Marilyn Manson in Part 1 of this video. They are basically saying, I don't know where I belong so I will go out of my way to join these other people who don't know what they want or who they are and dress like I'm going to a funeral everyday. It amazes me that people need to join groups, that they can't just be themselves.
Furby Gender I’m amazed that you missed the entire context of that... he had just had a school shooting put on his head, was scared of being gunned down in the street, politicians and religious zealots were calling him the second coming of Satan, and legitimately wanted him dead. All of these accusations going directly against his core beliefs. This would be a lot for anyone to process... you can’t even process his point without getting lost.
@13tharealest Bowling For Columbine, Marilyn Manson and Matt Stone are the only people who in the movie who make solid points about the school system in the movie. Its a great watch.
i really like him as a person Marilyn i mean, and for all those watching this to bash him close your eyes and listen if your so judge-mental of looks then you might be able to judge the book before the cover
@MisterEternal What he's saying is that historically, governments have been afraid of the power of art to sway the views and perceptions of the public, and so have suppressed them in an effort to minimize the chance of backlash, rebellion, or even indifference from the masses, upon whom governments rely for their power. There is even a term for it in media and political studies: "co-opting" Look at, for example, Thomas Payne's role in catalyzing the American revolution against Britain.
i'm not going to agree or disagree - but i will say i think he should take himself seriously, and don't feel that he is narcissistic - he's being asked questions about himself - of course he's going to talk about himself. glad to hear that even though you feel this way, that you are still a fan! :D
This is one of the better interviews I've watched. I've always loved just listening to what MM has to say, but usually he's being interviewed by complete twits like Letterman and O'Reilly. It's nice to see an interview with a natural flow instead of just an agenda.
I'll admit I'm swayed by aesthetics a lot of the time, most probably, but I'm not perfect. If you want people to accept your faults then accept theirs my friend. Everyone has their shit to deal with, it just isn't the same shit you know. Most important thing is people learn from themselves, then better themselves. To ask more is unfair to them, to expect less is unfair to everyone else. IMHO
I like what Marilyn Manson says. I don`t know what he does, but he recognizes we are living in a George Orwell world. I also like what he says about writers. I`ve made only friends or enemies with my writing, one of them being Henry Rollins with whom I lost "traction with" when I called him some nasty names for signing a $25,000 bomb to be dropped on poor people in Iraq while he was "entertaining" the corporate troops there defending our freedoms, while destroying their lives.
@ 13tharealest the are talking about Bowling for Columbine. About the Columbine killings around 2000 when Marilyn was blamed and he did an interview with Michael Moore.
@1994rcm1 I think that really something that is different for each and eeryone of his fans. For me I think he changed a lot from AS to MA even more to HW. He has always a lot.
If you get anything out of this, anyone, it's his last statement. Being an artist, a TRUE artist, is what we all must do. They have had the greatest influence over things for all time. Buddha, Jesus, LaVey...they created something, and that's the key. So get some balls and make it out of your small town, and become legendary. Your the one who should be on the other side of the TV.
I always admired Manson for his intelligence and articulation. He would be one of those people I'd like to sit down and drink coffe/abstinth with (yfw painting reference) and just talk. I do not agree that the Right is motivated to censor art (although I have met some Right-wingers that makes me cringe), I believe both sides have developed similar political striking methods where they perform censorship. I wonder how long it will be before the whole system just, falls apart.
I like how henry interviewed mansion, he didn't do what news casters do, he didn't talk over him or interrupt him, he sat their and took it all in without saying a word
who is mansion?
Jeremy Hilton kind of obvious he meant Manson dude.
Henry Rollins is pretty much a bad ass. Dude is as close to non conformist as you can get.
That is the mark of a professional who wants his audience to understand something about his interviewee, and his guest to get points across, and doesn't let his ego get in the way.
He’s a great interviewer and you can tell he respects Marilyn
I got nervous when he set the drink on the arm of the chair. You don't wanna spill something on Henry Rollins floor.
"How long is it to George Orwell".
Spoken 6 years ago.
You may like his art or not - but this guy is *smart* and deserves to be heard.
We are not inching we running full speed now.
@No One :D That comment is also 8 years old. This is one of the nice situations, where we can both be right.
Whether or not you like either of these guys' music, they're both really strong characters, they think before they speak, and they believe what they speak. It's refreshing.
great interviewer , I really liked it (:
I love Henry's intereviews. I wish he would do more.
What scares me, is how fake everything is getting, and the faker and cheaper everything gets, the more people seem to like it.
Even the food is getting worse.
However there are things that are getting better but at what cost.
I never knew Henry Rollins did Interviews. He is really great at it though.
I love interviews with manson.
In my eyes a person who knows exactly what he is talking about and someone who stands his words.
Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of his music, but he has got to be one of the most articulate and intelligent sounding rock artists out there. It's really refreshing to see someone in the music business sound so smart in his interviews.
I think that this was one of the most awesome interviews he has ever done. Great job MM! He is definately one of my heros! Thanks for posting!
Henry Rollins is an awesome interviewer! He asked wonderful questions that really brought out Manson's intellect. I really enjoyed this interview.
I never realized how awesome Henry is. go to his wiki and look at all he does. jack of all trades.
Yeah Henry is incredible. Loved him for a long time.
Rollins usually seems genuinely interested in what his guests have to say and I like that. exactly, he always fields interviews really well
utmost respect to mr rollins AND mr. manson
Actually, he often listens to what others have to say, in debate shows, which he is often drawn into he's always polite with other people's points of view. 2 very smart musicians id love to chill with either one and just talk
Manson is soooo cool hes been through alot
Cannot claim to be a MM fan, but I've got a new respect for him as an artist and human being.
he has Art history knowledge...I love it!
two legends
awesome interview!
unfortunately, i think this was a very short lived show, but it would've been nice for it to keep going!
Super stoked about the dadaist plug. I was tuning out and surfing another page and that snapped me back.
Manson is the best example of pure rock and roll in the past 15 years.
Love it or hate it, it is art and he is contributing to society and he is inspiring.
brb, crying because he's perfect.
Anyone can deny mm but hes the best artist.i will always luve him
Wish this interview was longer!!
u r so right...It's weird, cause lately I'm not listening to what he has to say, I just need his voice in the background. Very calming.
A good interviewer & I really respect Manson's views. Overall, good stuff
Just listening you talking is great and amazing! Apart of all the mask you have put on you, you ARE one of a kind in heart!
god bless marilyn manson :)
i hope i'll like his next album.
Don't love his music, but man is he bright with everything and lyrics are great. He is a great guy and even if I don't like his music. He is a great artist and a great speaker.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!

Two legends...Interview X+ !!!
It's so rare to find Manson in an interview where he's being interviewed by some one with equal intelligence.
say what you will about Manson, when Moore asked him that question he nailed the answer.
Amen Manson...'How much longer can the ordinary man be manipulated?' This guy is a genius
I think this is one of the few interviews with Marilyn Manson where he isn't subtly criticised by a close minded interviewer.
man is the artist
Who else watches Manson interviews to relax?
Rollins made it very clear that he was there for the troops, not for the war. The troops don't decide where they go and Rollins has always been anti-Iraq war. He's so intellegent, he's a beautiful person. quite interesting too
I wasn't aware that Manson uses painting as an outlet. How awesome!
Marilyn's music has never really held my interest, but he is so intelligent and fascinating.
I like how Rollins lets marilyn talk
He Is A Hero period
HR is great interviewer

You know what I always thought was awesome when it came to interviews from Henry Rollins? No fucking notes.
If it's the last thing I do I am going to meet Marilyn Manson. Because he seems like a really cool guy that I would like to get to know.
This guy is so freaking intelligent.
Me singing:
"manson...i reallyyyyy wannnnnnnaa meeeet yoooouuuu!!!!!"
lolzore...my family had to listen...they suffered. :D
Muahahahahahaahahahaha!!!
oh !!thanks for answering!
its rare to see a respectful interview where the interviewer likes Manson, although, i dont know if its just me, but i think manson seems to enjoy the opportunity to be challenged in interviews rather than just having a conversation
Many people did. It was orchestrated many years ago.
he is so clever!
I would love to sit down with Marilyn Manson and have a conversation with him.
I couldn't agree more.
somehow of all the rockers ive heard speak, even though i admittedly have never listened to mansons music (im more a roses and stones/ roses/ beatles person) but i really likr to hear manson speak.
i love his jacket

Well i watched moore's interview and i don't know why he complaints about it, i think he did really good there.

He wrote a book? What's it called? He is a genuinely intelligent man, I'd love to read what he's written...
@1994rcm1 I think that really something that is different for each and eeryone of his fans. For me I think he changed a lot from AS to MA even more to HW.

@DarKnight1fanz no I cane by myself. Lol, ummm I don't recall tbh. Think I was looking up mm interviews

I would appreciate if you could provide the verse you got this from. I'm not denying, just need to know the context!
