"...they were my youth." I love that you wrote that, because there were mine too. I can remember as a little girl watching soaps w/ my aunts not being able to comprehend anything, but I can tell what love is and it was plain on his face whenever he saw or was with her. Scotty really didn't deserve her, but look needed her. They rank as #1 as my all-time favorite couple and right underneath them is Bo & Hope of DOL. Cheers to you! Have a good day.
I remember watching them getting married. My Mom cried. I still wish they were together. It was a once in a lifetime love affair. Two great talents!!! Great Chemistry!!!
30 million people watched a soap opera wedding. 33 million people watched a wrestling show on a Friday night seven years later. The 80's did it bigger than any decade in history, without question.
Manu Ginobilis Bald Spot And that “wrestling show on a Friday night seven years later” (February 5, 1988, to be exact)? Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant in a rematch from Wrestlemania III. Andre won the WWF title before surrendering it 45 seconds later to Ted DiBiase; Jack Tunney didn’t like what he saw and vacated the championship with a tournament to be held at Wrestlemania IV to determine the new, undisputed champion, which would be the “Macho Man” Randy Savage.
I totally agree. It was the way he looked at her. I mean talk about loving someone so much that you're almost bursting, that's how it always seemed to be when those earlier episodes of the 2 aired. He loved her beyond everything and anyone else. I'm happy these vintage GH moments are on youtube. Now we can relive the moment over and over again.
I was 14 years old when they got married I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch this historical moment I use to race home to watch GH everyday Luke and Laura were the shit!
4kane, you had to be there to experience Tony and Genie for the first time and see the incrediable chemistry, he was not the greatest looking guy but the charisma he had was through the roof.
Wow, 1981...been that long ago. I was a kid during that time in the early 80s. My mom rushed home from work to see that wedding! Brought back great memories growing up in the 80:-)
The man of my dreams was just on the horizon. 1982. We were a match made in heaven. he changed my life in a moment. He died five years ago but I had my fairy tale.
This brings back lovely memories. Though my favorite L/L moment was where he saw her for the first time after thinking she had died. This is a close second. Thanks for sharing.
Das ist die beste und gefühlsvollste Hochzeit, die ich jeh erleben durfte. Für mich war dieses auch die beste Serie die ich einsaugen konnte. Klassssseeeeee!!!!
kimdkus THEN PEOPLE HAD MONEY, BRAINS , LOOKS WERE TO KILL FOR NO IPODS OR UBER DRIVERS TODAY MARRIAGE WOULD BE LIKE LUKE AND LUKE INSTEAD OF LUKE AND LAURA
My Mom and I watched this and we both cried. I will forever remember them as the SUPERCOUPLE and to this day, I still love them. I wish Genie Francis would return to GH and claim her man!!!
Luke and Laura's wedding was _the_ biggest event on daytime TV...that is, until January 3, 1983. That day, Sale of The Century, Hit Man, and Just Men all premiered on NBC (the latter two wouldn’t last long, though at least Betty White would win an Emmy for hosting Just Men); but so would a brand new game on The Price Is Right that became an immediate favorite right from its first playing: *PLINKO!!!!!!!*
Yeah I so agree AniLuta, the way he looked at her took my breath away, ha ha, that is what I try to defend on my soap forum when they talk about Luke and Tracy, he will never ever look at someone else the way he looked at Laura and still does, the chemistry is unbelievable, that is why I am believing this stuff they are trying to pull with him and Tracy, I will take him and Laura years ago over him and someone else today anytime, they were my youth.
my mom let us stay home f and I also got to go on set some years back oh the memoriesrom school to watch this epic event in history ill will always be a fan
I remember running home from school for this and sitting in front of the worst color tv we had and the picture was rolling but I made it home in time. there were no vcrs then as far as i knew
@DawnYzag - i never did understand how after a person gets raped, they marry the same person afterwards..lol! I haven't watched the whole rapping incident nor have I been alive at this point. I grew up an S&B fan and have watched this show from the mid 80's and on. I can't say a bad thing about L&L. Obviously the viewers bought into what GH created. We all gotta deal with it and just let them have their clips..
@kikicreamify It's the most-watched daytime tv event ever--I'd say that's historic. I don't even watch General Hospital and I've been a Luke and Laura fan for a long time!
Can someone please provide me some context? I do not understand why this wedding on General Hospital was so important / breathtaking...can anyone please explain? Thanks in advance. (I ask because I read that this wedding amassed the biggest viewing audience for a Daytime TV show - and I don't understand how/why this is so significant).
wackyworldz It's hard to explain if you didn’t watch and experience the show. I never watched soaps before or after. But there was something about the storyline, the way it intensified and built up, the actors chemistry and suspense. It had a way of sucking you in. I use to rush home from high school to catch as much of the show as I could. Initially my mom and sister teased me about it. Before long they were sucked in too. TV was so different then than now, it's hard to explain. It's kinda like a, "you had to of been there" type thing. It's a good question. I'd like to hear what other people think the answer is. For me, it's hard to put my finger on.
Plus, this show was on after school was out on the east coast. Also, Christopher Cross lent his song "Think of Laura" to the show and was popular. You might say that GH broke the mold of what a typical soap was. I was a lot younger then, but GH was my favorite. I watched the ABC soaps while Ma and G'ma watched NBC. I guess it's like most things, you had to be a part of it to really understand it. Heck, Genie was oblivious to the following she had and left the show shortly after.
I remember my mom telling me that this came out when she was 18. Her and her mom would watch GH together, and her mom wanted to watch this, but she was in the hospital with colon cancer, and then she went into a coma and finally died; she died a week before the wedding episode came on. Well, now she can. :)
I could not believe what a big deal everyone was making about it. I watched Days of Our Lives every day wearing sweats and grabbing the bag of Doritos. Until that moment, I thought DOOL was everyone's favorite.
I'ts a little hard to explain, but GH was not too popular when Genie and Luke were brought on board to try to appeal to a younger audience. They wrote a rape scene into the script and then turned it around to a romance. It was controversial and hasn't always been portrayed the same since. But, I think the biggest thing is that these two really clicked together. They were very believable. And there was a big buildup after a lot of searching (literally).
Watching this, it's so hard to believe they were the "super couple". She was great, and still is. But Anthony Geary..a heart throb?? Please explain, fans, because I don't get it.
Sweetie she/he was a TROLL..I have every right to respond to a troll just like you have a right to defend the troll..but thank you for explaining what the 1st amendment is..so glad you passed 7th grade history. Now you and the troll are free to move along.....
@4kane - "Watching this, it's so hard to believe they were the "super couple". She was great, and still is. But Anthony Geary..a heart throb?? Please explain, fans, because I don't get it." LOL!! Me neither..lol!!
@kikicreamify I don't know how old you are, but I suggest that if you are in your 20's or older that you must be the most clueless iondiviual on this planet. This was a huge thing in the early 80's. cut college classes to watch along with 30 million others!
Hey there!! It's ok to give an opinion, but I think what the poster was refering to was that you look like a "TROLL" roaming around Luke and Laura sites to say how much you hate the relationship. Your opinion is not going to make fans think differently. Example, I HATE the show Friends and what they represent. I dont' go to video clips of Fiends on youtube to say how much I hate it! It's a waste of time and energy, and what you and I hate other people love. Got it??
43 years ago forever fans. ❤2024. Love them still.
...the most timeless moment in soap opera history :)
i watched it since 1978 and the wedding took place i was pregnant and was on bedrest. loved it then and still never tire of seeing this...
Love this so much!!! Luke and Laura forever!!! The best wedding in history!!
My favorite Wedding on General Hospital
"...they were my youth."
I love that you wrote that, because there were mine too. I can remember as a little girl watching soaps w/ my aunts not being able to comprehend anything, but I can tell what love is and it was plain on his face whenever he saw or was with her. Scotty really didn't deserve her, but look needed her.

Miss these two. The most respectively famous SUPERCOUPLE and respected known WEDDING on daytime television:)
I totally agree. It was the way he looked at her. I mean talk about loving someone so much that you're almost bursting, that's how it always seemed to be when those earlier episodes of the 2 aired. He loved her beyond everything and anyone else.

I watched this in 1981 when I was 13 years old! I'll never forget it!
Our favorite soap opera. Luke and Laura our favorite characters ❤❤❤
They are beloved and STILL missed. There will never be another couple like them again.
4kane, you had to be there to experience Tony and Genie for the first time and see the incrediable chemistry, he was not the greatest looking guy but the charisma he had was through the roof.
Classic. Memories galore. Thank you so much for that blast from the past.

This brings back lovely memories. Though my favorite L/L moment was where he saw her for the first time after thinking she had died. This is a close second. Thanks for sharing.
I was 10 y.o. but I still remember this scene, with Helena Cassadine's anathema
This is one of the best weddings on daytime ever!
Das ist die beste und gefühlsvollste Hochzeit, die ich jeh erleben durfte. Für mich war dieses auch die beste Serie die ich einsaugen konnte. Klassssseeeeee!!!!
My youth to. Luke and Laura forever. Best couple on tv

LUKE AND LAURA- the best of daytime.
PERIOD.
RachelNYC, I was there watching among those 30 million, it was like watching my two best friends getting married, that is how popular they were.
Back when romance meant so much.❤
She married her rapist.
I was in my early 20's when these two married. So wonderful.
kimdkus THEN PEOPLE HAD MONEY, BRAINS , LOOKS WERE TO KILL FOR NO IPODS OR UBER DRIVERS

I'm sorry. you and your mom can watch this together and think of your grandmother everytime and enjoy lovely memories
Oh, I can still smell my grandmothers cup of instant sanka, jovan musk oil for women and her benson & hedges! How I wish it was the 1970s again.
I missed this because I had a job and I was working and I didn't have a VCR! Damn!
My Mom and I watched this and we both cried. I will forever remember them as the SUPERCOUPLE and to this day, I still love them. I wish Genie Francis would return to GH and claim her man!!!

The coolest white couple in the history of soaps!
Lolz.
Tony T NEVER WATCHED THE SOAPS BECAUSE I ALWAYS THOUGHT IT WAS FAKED
Tony T NEVER WATCHED THIS STUFF-
I wish they would have stayed together
This, Princess Diana, and Pinterest are the reason a wedding costs as much as a year of college. Thanks, America!
ROFL!

That veil and headpiece stole the show!
81 million people watched this! Do you believe that? 81 million people!
I was in art college at the time and we were all in the common room, all around the TV. It was really something.
Best wedding in soap history
Tho I loved the time and storyline and tho this crashed like a rock after she left, tony Geary was not easy to look at.
I remember running home from school for this and sitting in front of the worst color tv we had and the picture was rolling but I made it home in time. there were no vcrs then as far as i knew
My name is Luke. I was born the day this episode aired. 11/16/1981.
Oops! Made a typo, I mean "Luke needed her."
my daughter first words were luke and laura such a adventure!!! love them as a couple!!!

lori is so pretty at her wedding
Genie Francis looks very pretty in this video.
After all these years, his hair still gets me...
Looks like Sean Penn in carlito's way
I meant to say that is why I am not believing this stuff with Luke and Tracy, it will never compare one quarter of Luke and Laura.
OMG, this WAS 1981!!! :-D
This was huge
If I didn’t know better I would of thought this was for real.
Can someone please provide me some context? I do not understand why this wedding on General Hospital was so important / breathtaking...can anyone please explain?

Stockholm Syndrome can be a bitch.

No really, he's serious. It's a soap opera. Take off the veil you bought from wal-mart and get a life; allayous.
