I met Charles Aznavour in person down the Champs elysees in Paris once in a summer time. He was both so classy and modest as I did not dared to say a word. We simply have shared a mutual smile full of respect and understanding. A great memorable experience in front of one of our greatest artists
Famous song here in France everybody, every generation can sing it, probably also because it was covered so many times by different generations singers or bands. One of those french song we all sing together at the end of a party. Charles Aznavour was (and still) also someone very respected even it's some old fashion artist, but a worked with lot of different kind of artist, probably that's why new generations never forgot him and he always still very modern, even as an old guy. (his voice still perfect until the end of his life)

I'm french but I never grew up with his music sadly. Though when his funerals happened on TV the military choir covered this song as they carried his casket through the alleys. The emotions took over me and I swear I cried the loss of a man I never knew like he was a part of me. Through his words I believe he managed to touch everyone because his soul was in every one of us. May he rest in peace and enjoy the sun and the warmth of heaven. Merci Charles

The lyrics translation you are watching is not wonderful in my opinion… but I understand Aznavour is not the easiest to translate. All his songs have poetically written lyrics, and a beautiful signature melody to go with them, and you carry them in your mind for a while after listening to them…
