- It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing one of the oddball limited versions of the Sony PlayStation. Well, sort of. This is actually a PlayStation debugging stations, a piece of development kit hardware. Originally used to allow developers to test their games without the presence of unsigned code or region free protections.

"Figure it out! Hello this is Adam Koralik...." has become as iconic to me as that sweet sweet ps1 start up sound. I always binge watch a bunch of your videos at once and have that stuck in my head all day haha. Love the videos and your dedication dude,
a video of some kind is what gets me everytime, even after all these years!
@mr.g-sez totally haha, it's the best bit. Glad I'm not alone in this lmao
Same feels
I have an obsessive collection of green game consoles and was so lucky to come across this before they became stupid expensive. I've had so much fun with it, and I love the shade of green!
Teal Dreams!
Very cool find 👍
A PlayStation debug console, very cool. This is sure a very neat looking PS1. Thanks Sunny Man for allowing Adam to show us all this cool variant of Sony's 5th gen console.
Completely unrelated, but Adam I just want to say that I always look forward to your uploads. I remember subscribing to your channel back in 2010 and you thanking me for the subscription on my profile's comments section (remember when UA-cam had a profile comment section? lol) Take care, and keep the dream alive.
Appreciated!
The ps1 is such a beautiful console
You know what else is green?? Turtles! I like them.
I like Tuytles! 🐢 #TurtlePower
The king has returned.
This man likes his turtles
@@AdamKoralik apologies for my absence, my college of turtles has been making me very busy.
I've seen the Net Yarose PS1 on youtube, but never the Debug Station. Very cool!
Antother variant episode lets goo!! Also, gunner's heaven is an awesome game lol
I'm not ashamed to admit that I watch so much Adam Koralik that now if I use the words "figure it out" towards anybody around me, my wife who doesn't watch this channel nor care about video games much at all, will say "Hello, this is Dad with Figure it Out Productions..."....and it cracks me up every time. She's caught the residual effect of my binge-watching your channel for several years up to this point. 🤣
Also, great video as usual. I feel like I've seen many dev/debugging units of various consoles throughout the years, but this might be the first PS1 dev/debug console I've seen. I guess perhaps that speaks to how uncommon they are as you mentioned.
Appreciated! You should give my travel channel a shot.
Gunners Heaven actually came out in the UK not sure on euro releases but it was renamed Rapid Reload
What a nice person to loan you his Debug Station :>
Sure, nowadays it's not of equal meaning anymore but as you said, still neat to have since it doesn't need to be tinkered with in the first place.
Thanks for sharing. Gunners Heaven was also released in Europe, it's called "Rapid Reload".
Nice.
The SCEA or SCEE info is pulled from the disk.. actually most of this screen is pulled from the disk, and is why sometimes it takes ages to pop up if you have a dying laser. But the SCEA part is part of the anti piracy check wobble groove. As the debug unit skips that, then it's not displayed here.
The Net Yaroze does this too depending on the default region, but if you stick the disc of the console's home region in my case Japan, it will display the SCEI.
things like this would make a perfect presents to receive or give away for birthdays, christmas or anniversaries. as we get older and older these machines are getting rarer. receiving something like that would be unforgettable
Thanks Sunshine!
That’s really cool buddy keep up the good work
Weird how, despite using the new silicon, the green debug units still have the early laser carriage placement. Later PS1 models moved it to the middle right side of the tray to get it away from the system's power supply since its proximity to such a hot component on early models was exaggerating wear and tear on the disc drive.
Also, when the new silicon was standardized, Sony didn't replace the blue debug unit with the green one. Instead, they set the green one alongside the blue one and required the game to be tested on both before it could get certified, because of differences like hardware bugs on rev A and B being fixed on rev C, and rev C also having palpably increased performance in transparency effects after a change in the type of chip used for video memory. Thus, the green test unit wasn't enough to guarantee compatibility and reasonable performance on _all_ PS1 systems.
There was a ps1 fat model that can read Video CDs., it was sold mostly in asia cause Karaoke was very big in asia., the ps1 was also gonna get an expansion for VCD just like the saturn had., it also was going to do broadband and there was talk about a "pro" version to compete against the PC which was starting to catch on with the new graphic cards., non of those stuff got made or released, there is a third party expansion for VCDs though
If the VCD support was intended as an expansion, I wonder if that one Asia-exclusive model simply has it built into the expansion bay?
I really don´t know, never saw one in person, but, saw images of it., looks like a normal fat ps1 but says "video cd" on the console, also the box sells it as a karaoke capable machine, i think it only was launch in korea or tailand, karaoke was very big in asia in the 90s, there is a third party adaptor for the fat ps1 that allows you to run video cd and karaoke, and yes, the news on the magazines of the time talked about ram expansions for the ps1, maybe Sony didn´t saw the ram and vcd cards on the saturn and 3do as something important or that really made a difference in sales so they cancelled it@@PhirePhlame
A Debugging Station, a Debugging Cast, and a Debugging Cube walked into a bar
*Adam Koralik was the bartender*
I saw a Psygnosis development PS1 model earlier this year. It was a similar colour.
I have a model that has a metal plaque that says "Property of Psygnosis"
another great video adam
Thanks for documenting this variant, Adam, especially since it’s not one necessarily worth owning as you pointed out. But as a lover of the original PlayStation, this was a real treat
I always wondered the diff between this green one, blue debug one, and the net yaroze. All 3 wouldn’t mind in my ps1 collection
That’s cool I would have liked that if it was a common color variant (green is my favorite color)
You didnt mention the white 5903 model when talking about color variants. Looks like you'll have to get one and make a video on it ;)
As always Adam great video Hi from Europe
Thank you sunshine or whoever shared the device
Dude that console look's awesome :)
First time watching that Resident Evil. Thanks.
I kinda wish that the debug blue color was available for sale as a regular unit. I want to obtain one, but they are prohibilty expensive
5:50 omg its me ☺️
Tis a thing of beauty 😍 😂👍
Since Shenmue 3 is on PC (and 85% off on Steam till 05/Oct/2023) I have no need to own a PS4, but I’m starting to have a need to own this cool PS1 😊
PlayStation 1 nostalgia ‼️🔥👍💯
That’s pretty sweet.
Thanks Sunshine
i like that petrol color :D
Thak you sunshine!
I might have missed it in the video, but are the Green ones ONLY found in PAL Europe versions, seems like the Blue ones were Japan, US, and PAL?
Good question, I'm not totally sure.
I just saw yt videos about the PlayStation VCD and the Sega Genesis VCD💯🎮
:D
definitely wanted a yaroze back in the day but I think they were going for like 800 bucks or something crazy? so I never got one. I think I've heard of the blue playstations though. first I've ever seen of a green version.
So I have one of these, dont think its PAL though. Somebody in the early 2000s had quite a few of them and if I recall correctly was selling them for $75 a piece over at the Digial Press website forums, if anyone remembers that place.
My podcast co-host works for Digital Press.
@@AdamKoralik That's pretty cool. I miss that site in its heyday, always very lively. I used to visit it almost every day, I couldn't tell you how much money I spend buying random and interesting things in the forums there. Of course that was before prices exploded and there was still a hint of mystery and undiscovered treasures in the retro gaming world. I went back and checked if I could find the post about the debug units. unfortunately; the list and prices were gone but I'm pretty sure it was $75 apiece. I couldn't imagine paying much more than that for myself at the time. reading what was there of the old post though he seemed to have a number of both green and blue units that they were selling. Who knows, maybe that one you showed was one of them.
Gotta get a white Chinese VCD Playstation now.
You get it.
I used to lust after the dev PS1s after I saw one on the Playstation demo disc, and in magazines. The grey was so boring compared to the green and black consoles.
That's really pretty
The greenstation
The PS2 also only had 2 variations :D and I don't think it was called psone slim.
i have the blue version Debugging Station
Yes we had lots of these at my old work and also blue ones iirc
I had one once I'm not sure what happened to it :(
Edit: in fact, I blew one of these up in my first month
I still have my BlaCk PSX in my collection and if i ever get rid of it it would be in your or GoRtheMovieGod collection
Just got psx nettrocy sorry if spelling are off with 500 games and demos won't say haw much man Ile get round to it I've put it on games and demos week but billed games is to crazy 🤣

I remember seeing the green PSX in the Making of Lunar cd 💿
I worked for Psgynosis Liverpool back in the day and we had 3 debuggers per desk. I recall we used grey for UK, Blue was USA, and Green for Japan.
I also recall putting the wrong PSU into one and blowing it up haha ! Thankfully you could open the case and replace the fuse, so it didn't destroy the console.
We had a massive 20 or 30 CDR burner to make builds, so each revision could be done for us in Alpha / Beta testers.
Best feature was putting the soundtrack you wanted on a game, for example we had Prodigy's Smack my bitch up burned into a game called Rollcage until it went to final master, then we had to put the standard soundtrack back on because Sony wouldn't clear the track :(
Great times !
That's awesome
YOU GOT A DEBUGGINGSTATION!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!
comment
Na ps2 slim test debug system is better
