I have a conspiracy on the meaning of the title "Ego Death" being connected to the video. The video starts off with Tim on the throne, then Scott gets on the throne, and at the end, Steve is on the throne. Basically, the ego of Tim dies when Scott is put in the spotlight, then both Tim and Scott's egos die when Steve is in the spotlight.
If you llok deeper, at each level of the song they move up through the building. Starts with tim in a lower, smaller windows less room. Then moves to scott in a larger room with windows signifying it is higher up. The Third section then has Vai on the roof top almost at its highest level only for them to all stand together back to back and shred as one cohesive embodiment. It finally ends with all three looking up even higher to another instrument, the trumpet(brass) to pay respect to where the rock genre ultimately comes from, jazz.
@@KyleReynaert that’s a perfect theory, i literally believe it
And then all egos of other guitar players is gone too hahah
Wtf that actually makes more senses!
ego death is a process associated with meditation. it means there is no more cruft or bias in thought, reality is interpreted as it is not as you think it is. similar concept to nirvana and enlightenment.
The respect for putting him on a throne is top notch 👌 👏
Henson started the video on the throne. But Vai is the real king.
@@kylel8605 Scott also got a spot on it. Probably part of why it's called "Ego Death". Tim giving Scott more of a central role.
They also raise through the levels of the building much like the layers of the psyche, through the ego, etc.
Also Scott was on the throne. I think him, Vai, and Henson are kings in their own right. All guitar virtuosos.
All 3 guitarists played sitting on throne.
I was blown away on first listen on the same level if not more when I first heard their song The Worst
@Define The Great Line Fan Account [2-1] they’re more like my kids 😂
The worst is my favorite song by them
@@johnpyne7223 this might tie or exceed it for me
TMH is my favorite album of theirs and I've not enjoyed a track this much since then
@@DJBeastmode08 from that album, Loud and Icronic are amazing too
The last part with the trumpet was like a big cherry on top for me, GORGEOUS song!
The trumpet at the end has me excited for the opening track featuring Brasstracks
It feels like, at the end when Steve starts really going in and the drums are running that marching rhythm, that this song is just an recruitment for guitarists. Like he's asking them to join their ranks and at the end, just in general, a love note to guitarists. Ego Death as a name also felt like it was referencing the heavy difference in genres played by Vai and Polyphia; they may be different, but it's better to kill your ego and work together and create something new/cool.
This song is now my favorite polyphia song, holy shit it slaps
Same dog same.
Crazy how the video wasn't age restricted with all the love making to the guitars we witnessed
I remember losing my shit seeing the song list on their Twitter, and I knew damn well this one would be my favorite. The meshing of guitar generations worked so well and it felt like such a "passing the torch" track
Damn it’s kinda like he joined the band for a jam session or something. He fit in weirdly well
Serious pass-the-torch energy here. Really cool to see them showing each other so much respect like this. The song fucking slaps, too.
This song is such an earworm it just keeps pulling me in
The groove on this one is IT. ❤
Steve pie. I freaked out when this song dropped in the middle of work, so excited and surprised I was to see this collab, and it didn't disappoint at all.
Wow, what a heck of a tune. I wasn't really into "ABC", but damn this one is a vibe. Guitar porn is definitely the right way to put it. That acoustic intro was great, and seeing Scott get some focus is dope. And Clay's drumming is always great.
Steve Pi lol.
Each one has their own time in the chair.
I don't think the term "guitar porn" captures what I hear in Polyphia's songs at all. Their music isn't just a show-off of technicality, or a simple flex of techniques for their own sake. They benefit their composition with their techniques perfectly, and with that they produce some very high-end music. Calling this song "guitar porn" can sound very reductionistic imo
There’s 3 scenes that literally looks like some video game where you start with the easy floor the hard floor and the boss 😂
steve pie
recently got into Polyphia a few months ago but Ego Death definitely sunk its teeth into me.
For the dude in chat who said he wants real drums in the mix does he think clay is playing on a barrel?
Steve vai was transcribing music for frank Zappa at 19 yr old. He was the guitar player that David lee Roth picked to play for him after he left Van Halen the first time. He is not someone to over look. He may be getting a little old but he is still the king! Great job and great song! if you haven’t heard of vai then go look him up. ❤
Steve Pie on the throne is such a powerful moment
5:30 There it is, the face, the biggest complement you can get!
This song made me pop off so hard. Personally my favorite they've done. Topped Rich Kids for me.
It is Tims new Ibanez signature guitar. I wouldnt be surprised if they get a Grammy for this song, it is a masterpiece 😊
Listening your SLEEP TERROR bro ...
St€V€ 🥧 pi - i grew up listening to Zappa & then Steve into college years - great reaction and it’s fkin cool to have amazing young players and composers making music this damn good 🤘🏼🎧 🤟🏼
Hope they do something with Santana at some point. Love what they're doing.
Metal Birb. Another new Boundaries track. Holy. 🥵🥵
"Now I need a Salsa song from Polyphia." -- O.D. has a very Latin feel to me.
I love how intervals is like nearly a household name when I literally grew up with Aaron LOL.
Steve goes way back before the 80s Steve was involved with frank zappa, spiral tap and 6 other bands. He was born 2 years before I was born. He was born in 1960.
Best Song ever made!
Dude, put a damn high pass filter on your vocal mic. That low end rumbling is driving me crazy.
Steve 🥧. I know this is off topic to this video, but thanks for introducing me to some amazing music man!! Current AOTY for me is Ithaca and I also found Reliqa through your channel when you reacted to Bearer. Both bands are insanely talented and deserve so much attention. I have no friends that listen to metal so it’s nice to share excitement about music with people and that’s what your channel provides for me and I’m sure for many others too. Great stuff as always bro 🤘🏻.
Bruh, Ithaca and Reliqa are two of my favorite discoveries this year too!
Yes this is guitar pron but really its a showcase of sound and skill to an older generation who knows/loves Vai that have never heard of Polyphia. It's like a Phoenix rising for that generation to show them that there's still modern music worth listening to full of people passionate about advancing what it means to be a guitarist/drummer/bassist.
Now I want a Polyphia and Mariachi Vargas collab
Guit-kake...and i am so here for it haha
5:50 yepp, Jason fucking Becker. The Super shredder
My only con is that i'll never be able to know what it feels like to play this.
I love Tim and Scott but those bass lines slap so hard. I wish Clay would of gotten his own spotlight like the rest of the members but bass players never get any praise.
saw someone saying they wish the drums were real. they are lmao
this song is it: here are 2 great new guitar players with a lot of fast technique ready to make history, and then God comes in the way with way less notes and shows he is still God, and they still have to do make a way til there :D
Fire🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
I agree, Id like to see Jason Becker play with this band but you know. Serrana always has a place in my heart and calloused hands.
Steve pie the science guy
Steve pie.
This song was sexy for a lack of better words
Steve pie 🎉😂
Tbh I thought Vai’s part was weird and boring the first time I heard this, but after hearing it a few times I realized he is playing multiple lead guitar parts simultaneously 😮
Further evidence that it's guitar porn is Clay Gober's mustache.
Isn't all Polyphia just guitar porn, this by comparison is more melodic actually
That was sick
What a mind blowing just wow
The 3 of them together are making an evil awesome sound back to back together
Steve Pai? Vai Stibu Senpai?
Steve Pie letsgooo xd
The HYDRA. Not Hundra.
Steve Vai
He's hybrid picking
Steve Pie sounds yummy but like it will melt your face off after eating it
steve pie
Steve Pie
Great video
React to Berried Alive new song please the guy is jus extremly another level
Beautiful guitar porn track haha Polyphia has been on top of the game lately and Steve Pie(AI) brought it! Love that you mentioned Jason Becker, the legend himself
I loved the song.
Vai was great! The band really put together a great tune. It's kind of guitar porn, but there is a ton of melody too. I really like every track that has been released. Very excited about this album. I agree these boys are doing amazing things for guitar music.
This is: Intercourse, the song.
*Steve Pie* 🥧
They need to make a song with buckethead
Pain Remains II music video also dropped 👀
I liked and subscribed after the happy gilmore reference. I love seeing everyone's reaction when the Ego Death screen cuts in at the beginning
Steve pie
That intro is so damn catchy.
I was gonna riot if I heard a con lol 😂
I am Steve pie
Steve PAI
Scottie woke up on a mission that morning. Incredible.
Steve Pie! Nice review. I'm so excited to hear the rest of this album, the 28th couldn't come faster 🥵
"I want real drums on the mix" - some dumbass in the chat on-screen. Bro you think Clay isn't really drumming? Show some respect to my man.
hi bruh i'm from Indonesian.
maybe you want to check another song from my country🇮🇩
(Reorien - Alip Ba Ta)
thank you 🙏🙏
Guitar porn... Yes
the sweater tim is wearing is a picture of lucifer... and their a christian band my azz
Why does it matter
@@iDenyooL because they claim to be a christian band
U salty bro?
@@Chris-jp5zp huh
Tim said we could see this guitar being released agin in his signature soon (nylon string)
Ahhhh you mentioned Jason Becker 😱 his project with Marty Friedman 'Cacophony' and the trqck Speed Metal Symphony is probably his most discussed work. But for good reason. That's some guitar pron. 😆
Steve 🫓
Can’t forget about Michael hedges’ aerial boundaries either. Ugh so good
Ugh,, ad break RIGHT at the digi-scrape chirp thing from vai
Is this nyce iepiker is sister saund sum is sou flyer istive...
🐐 'd now, Steve is the myth, Joe Satriani is the legend and now, polyphia is half way there to godhood. Great reaction man ✌️💪
Steve pie! It was so interesting how they incorporated Steve's style and great that Scott showcases his incredible guitar playing as well. That solo was siiiiick. You said it right, this one for sure is guitar porn. My kinda song. Great review sir
steve 🥧
Going to be totally honest here - not familiar with Steve Pie. That said, holy mother of god. I feel like each Polyphia single keeps getting better, which insane since Playing God (the first one) was practically perfect
Major fart sniffin -fibe .. Love Steve though !
This might be their best track yet imo. However I’m not really feeling Steve Vai’s part.
I think a lot of people were expecting him to go off. But I actually really enjoyed how “laid back” he is in this. He blended very well with polyphia
@@joseflowery5274 wasn’t that he wasn’t going off it’s just the overuse of whammy and bends sounds a bit cringe
@@joshforeman1648 tbh, I didn’t appreciate it at first. But after hearing it the second time while driving, I ended up liking it.
honeslty i did not liked Steve Vai performance :( Poliphia were at its best, they are just killing, but steve vai is cool back in his days where he was the master of guitar solos, but when he been dropped in this advaced level of playing as poliphia he couldnt keep up thats why playing his wanky solo kept his still on the spotlight, and not burned out.. its huge different of generations and i think either steve vai didnt wanted to steel show from those guys, he was happy to be featured and he just played what in his opinion was best fiiting with those guys.. kind of safe place :D
Are you saying polyphia is too advanced for vai to keep up with? 👀
@@joseflowery5274 hell yeah 💪💪💪
