OK, I remember lots of Northern Euro bikinis at the pool. I'm not a camera expert but I think the Go Pro is clearer. Maybe you should try using it but for shorter shoots when it's hot with the wind guard on it. It seems to have better resolution.
@@larrymaietta5912 Actually, pictures from the other camera seemed to be more natural, or at least with less yellow tint that Go Pro seems to have.
And the last time I was on Ios was.....NEVER! It was called Party Island back in the eighties and for that reason I avoided it. Party Island rhymes with loud music, overcrowding, drunkeness, obnoxiousness, drugs et al. Why partygoers chose this island of all the Cycladic islands as their Mecca, I have no idea but I never gave it the benefit of the doubt.
I can only imagine the party after dark.
The colour, and clarity of the water, at the start of this video, is just stun-ning! Almost gem-like, actually.
Living on IOS from 1976-78 changed my life. Forever. The profound value of simplicity I learned there has never left me. You have brought me back to a unique time in my life. See you there one day! Efharixto polee.

Also, humans have been on the island long before the emergence of classical Greece, which is ancient to us.
Yes Tom. Cyclades had a civilization before the minoans in Crete ( Early bronze age ) , then the mycenean civilization came to be in mainland Greece and much much later was the classical era of Greece everyone knows about. We have many sites too of paleolithic and neolithic civilizations in mainland Greece. I guess it was the climate , the sea , the rivers and the fertile soil that kept spawning these little pockets of people that thrived for their era.
Do not be fooled, Ios is in fact a notorious party destination for high school seniors and college students. Very beautiful, but not the best place for serenity at the peak of summer.
There are ruins of Neolithic settlements of what is today called the cycladic civilization on many islands of this cluster. From the remnants of their art one can tell they were civilized people. Look up cycladic statue, they look like modern-day minimalist sculptures, incredible.
I'm glad you went back to Greece. Much rich history to think about as you walk around.

Great video, a beautiful place. We were in greece one month ago, visited Thessaloniki, Meteora, Athens and then the island Kerkira. Greece has the most beautiful clear water. We are always traveling everywhere with our car.

I visited Ios early September a couple of years back and was lucky to find a local festival being held at Palaiokastro. It is one of my best memories from all of my travels. Btw August 15th is a big holiday in Greece and i'm willing to bet that most islands will have some sort of festivity. If you are still in Greece by then you should check if there is one, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

traveled to IOS for one week in 79 on board MV Kanaris,what a blast,ran out of money so slept on the beach before heading to rethymnon crete looking for work,great memories

Nice video, I kept looking to see if I made a cameo, I think you were there at the same time :) I left yesterday for Crete but already your video brings back memories. Ios is one of my favourite islands now. Ironic that it has a reputation as a party paradise and yet 95% of the island is totally peaceful and relaxed.
That would have been cool to have run into you. Yeah Ios just has the party scene at Mylopotas beach and then the rest of the island is pretty wild and peaceful.

Slowly but steadily, Gabriel tracks his path to be a Greek citizen. He started to say Greek words more often, he tries hard at least. I even suspect that he got the hair cut in a Greek barbers shop 😁
edit 1 : Previously, I commented after only some minutes in the video. So, Gabriel got a hair cut for 15 euros (Santorini prices), in other islands with such money he would also have the beard trimmed as well.
edit 2 : Gabriel Traveler is maybe the top hiker in sandals on rough terrain in Greece (lol).

Don't know which island you are on now, but my advice is to somehow find your way to Kythira island. It is not very touristy and I'm pretty sure you will have no problem finding accomodation. It is a unique island that is situated in the crossroads between Crete, the Cyclades, the Saronic Islands and the Peloponnese and has something from each.
Another idea is to complete your exploration of Crete. If I'm not mistaken you have been there only once before and not for a very long time. Another place you wont have a problem finding accomodation as it is so big. The wild and not touristy East Crete will certainly be of your liking.

That island is more beautiful than others. Arched doorways creeps me out for some reason, but they seem popular in Greece and Italy.
Stay away from small slopes, the white rocks you see at night also means end of path-road ,extreme danger to fall off.

Gabriel love the haircut...regarding your DJ I camera let it sit in a bowl of uncooked dry rice. Cover the camera completely. The rice soaks up the moisture. Keep it in covered dry rice for 48 hrs. It also works for cell phones that have fallen in water. If you are travelling in the next few days just store it with the rice in a ziplock bag. Make sure it is covered. We were in greece in 2015 , skopelos #goosebumps
I was in IOS in 1972. No cars allowed. No hotels. Very small. There was one hardware store where we could cash in our American Express Traveler’s Checks. One restaurant. And Homer’s Cave. We stayed in a room with a pitcher of water for $5 maybe less. In the courtyard the owner would enter a chicken coop to retrieve eggs and cooked them in an outdoor kitchen for our breakfast. Only old Greeks and a few of us tourists. The young Greeks took off the island to study. I was invited by a young couple from London who I met in Florence. They rented a home. We got water from a well in the kitchen and took the buckets of water, one at a time, to pour into the bathtub which was situated in the garden. We went swimming every day in the sea’s clear water and could see the fish swimming between our legs. But we had to beware. The tiny fish would bury themselves in the sand and if you stepped on one it would really hurt. The sponge fishers told us to pee on the ground and step in our own urine so that the stinger would leave our foot. We had a great time! I’ll never forget Ios.❤️

Bad luck about the camera, suggest maybe you can find a Sony X 3000 (as used by Ben, Harold and NFKRZ). Very natural colour, high dynamic range, and excellent audio. Their vids look better at 1080 than many vloggers content does at 4k.
Gabe, I am very tempted to tell you where the most incredible remote beaches of Ios are, but then again I do not think I want to reveal them to the whole internet so I am just going to let you figure them out and discover them by yourself in one of your next visits there!

@Σπβγ oh boy yes, I am from South Africa and I tell you I have never come across so many snakes in my country then when I went to husband's home in Samos. In the Mani area there were a few on the road too from the mountains.

If you let your camera gizmo dry up for a day or two and turn it back on, it might work again. I once had a problem with a camera while shooting in the rain and eventually it came back to life.

Absolutely nothing is the same since the last time I was there. Granted it has been years, but still....the old charm is completely gone. At the time I felt like the people, more specifically the women, were very suppressed, now, of course, this obviously isn't the case. Modernization, I suppose, is a good thing. I'm thinking I should feel blessed I was able to visit the "old" IOS, I stayed 6 months. I have the fondest of memories that now, even with a visit, would not be brought back to me, and still, IOS is absolutely beautiful and much more convenient to all the visitors who now come to this island.

Great video as ever- I find all your Greek Island videos utterly captivating. By the way, you may be interested to know that a couple of days ago I was in Paris and visited the statue of the man on the horse on Pont Neuf! Naturally, I thought of your horrible experience there. I then took a cruise along the Seine- the boat left from that park on the island below Pont Neuf.
Cool. Funny thing is I'm currently in Paris, a short walk from the Pont Neuf.
Really wish I could have seen/met you there. Have you been to La Defense to see the Grand Arch? Its worth a trip, althoigh watch out if you use RER Line A to get there as La Defense is in Zone 3. Also, those Seine cruises leaving from Pont Neuf are pretty good- 15 euros for an hour cruise.
