Tough concept for all of the NPCs out there that have cognitive deficiencies but a guy can like something or someone, he can think something looks good; or has value and that does NOT mean he wants to possess the thing.
Best comment yet. And 100% spot on. Im a huge fan of the Frontier and have done my fair share to let the world know that. But That doesnt mean its a good truck for my needs. I expected some push back on this video. But its funny to see people get their panties all wadded up just because I say a truck is not right for me. Even when I spend so much time praising said truck..lol
I like the Frontier because I don't need 4x4 or ever leave the road... Just need a decent long lasting truck that has cargo room, and can haul around motorcycles without needing a trailer. The Frontier works great. If I was wanting an off-road vehicle, I don't think I'd go with the Frontier either.
Yep the frontier is perfect for many people but they don't offer a trim level that would work for me. Wish they would chevy, gm, ford, jeep, and ram do. Only 2 that don't is toyota and nissan. Wish nissan did.
This was my reasoning as to why I purchased a 21 Honda Ridgeline. I mostly drive on pavement, so I needed something comfortable with plenty of cargo room on road trips. The only time I go "off roading" is when I go camping and the awd feature is great. Yes, I also have a 2 inch lift and bigger tires VS. stock tires.
@@Jason-Samko I have owned many many GM products and a TJ. The GMs will not last without spending a lot in repairs. The jeep was the most capable (4 liter inline) but with little comfort and the new Pentastar has its own problems. The is not and never has been the best vehicle as they all have tradeoffs.
@@decoy916 The thing I cannot understand is why Honda still uses timing belts when other manufacturers switched to chains two decades ago. They recommend 90K changes unless you drive other than normal, then a 60K change is recommended. Of course if the belt breaks and trashes the engine at 61K, I bet the dealer says it must have been extreme duty use. That one issue turned me off Honda
I’ve owned a 2014 frontier and I now have a 2023 Tacoma but the frontier is still just as capable and reliable as a Tacoma. I do not care who you are if you have not owned a frontier you have no say and anything, and I know for a fact a lot of you have not owned one and as a Tacoma owner myself I know almost every other Tacoma owner has zero experience with any other truck including the frontier. all they do is make up a bunch of BS to try to make themselves feel better about their truck specially a very overpriced TRD it’s pretty sad.😂
Yes, the crazy famboy snobbery is pathetic, and almost NEVER based on actual experience. I've had both brands as well and can verity your claims. I bought a used high mileage Hardbody in 1995 thinking I'd have a work truck for a few years. I STILL have it and use it for everything from hauling gravel to road trips. There's a 2007 Million Mile Frontier on TFL truck channel. How can Toyota e better than thst? Older Toyotas are generally good, except the frames melted away from.rust, where Nissan had such a solid design that they STILL use it today, which of course the FBs make fun of. But the Japanese brands are not equal today. I would not touch the new Mexican soft Taco. The Frontier is much more solid and not full of gimmicks, and not blowing transmissions and shock towers.
Yes yes sir very well and when you needmore poWER for off road you need custom the trucks . Because how they coming from Factory is just normal. I Will sale my 4runner for a Frontier is no to expensive and IS what i need. If i need more i Will put great suspensión and good tires and maybe a super charger and she Will be ready for any off road
I'm in the 99%...I bought a 2024 SV 4X4 King Cab. It's all I need. No swamping for me here in the northeast. Snow is the worst I will deal with. We do have some swamps but I'm not going out there.
My dad just bought one, Pro X ! He lifted and we have the snorkel, and bumper/winch on the way. Only real modifications we will be doing since south Florida sees a lot of rain/flooding.
Hey just to let you know, there was a guy on Frontier forums that was making a locker BYPASS for the 05 to 22 models. You could run 4 high locked, see forums, they show wiring diagrams, but I have not seen a mod for the 22 and newer.
Great points! I think the jeep is the most capable stock off roader hands down. The amount of upgrades from third parties are insane. I picked my Frontier for the bed size and my off roading is only on a farm. Everybody has different needs and that’s great. Of course the 2024 Tacoma people pick theirs to keep the tow truck industry in business!
You are right, the Nissan Frontier is definitely an upgrade from last years model, the 2022-2024 are great trucks, the 2025 with the new slight refresh is much better, thank you Nissan for listening to your customers, but as good as the 2025 is, it is not a Gladiator with solid front and rear axles and lockers, these are 2 different vehicles for 2 separate applications. For some the Frontier is all they need but for others, the Gladiator is.
Yeah, but the Gladiator is reaching for a different consumer. The Gladiators ride on pavement is terrible. IFS isn’t great for off road, but let’s be honest, where do most of us spend most of our time driving on. IFS is king on pavement when it comes to ride quality.
Gladiator is one thing. But chevy, gm, and ford also offer hardcore off road midsize. Even the tacoma is pretty good. Nissan just did a refresh for 25 and missed an opportunity to add a higher off road trim level. I would like to buy a frontier. But I can not.
"Gladiators ride on pavement is horrible "😂😂😂 that's funny. With my dad being sick I have made 4 10 hour in one day trips to him. 2 trips in the 4 runner and then 4 days later 2 trips in the gladiator. I prefer the gladiator and will take that when I go back in a few days.
@@Jason-SamkoI had so many people tell me that the ride comfort on the GM HDs was so much better than on the Super Dutys (and Ram 1-tons) because of IFS vs SFA. I prefer the Super Duty ride!
@1136tscc thanks. Love the Ridgeline. It's is pure perfection for it's intended use and so dang comfortable! And with its great awd system I will do all the offroad adventuring most people want to do
Yep everyone's needs and wants are different. My needs are not that uncommon. That's why ford, checy, gmc, jeep and ram now make vehicles for people that do what we do. Wish nissan would do it too
@@Jason-Samko Ford, chevy, gmc, jeep and ram may do what you do but they won't do it for very long. That is the problem.😉 May not be a problem for guys like you but most people keep their vehicles much longer than you. For you the points you make are 100% valid though.
He’s not bagging on the Frontier. He’s said countless times in the video that some of the base configuration don’t fit his needs driving through swamp.
yep seems like there are alot of people getting their panties all bunched up for no reason. its like dealing with toyota fanboys..lol. I love the frontier. But its not a tool I can use.
You have a very good valid reason for not getting this for yourself concerning your personal requirements. Nissan design Engineers should take note of your comments. On the other hand your right about 90% plus of truck buyers are suburban drivers maybe occasionally ride around some local dirt trail for a day out of the month, and that’s a maybe. On a light dirt trail where even a Prius could go, a truck doesn’t need a 4WD.
@rockkstah2550 agree. And the pro4x is a great off road truck. Just not to the level I need it to be for where I go. And I wish nissan would make one. There are only 2 trucks that can do what I need and are under 50k. And only one of those is still a naturally aspirated v6. Would love in nissan made an offering on that level
I totally agree. I will buy the Frontier because I don't do heavy off-road like I used to. The only thing it is stopping me from getting the Frontier is that there is not enough leg room on the back seat.
To be less black/ white about it, there IS a large middle ground where you definitely need more than a Prius, but not an all-out swamper or crawler. Standard 4WD pickups have filled that mainstream middle ground in farm and snow country for decades, and no Prius is going to do THAT. Be realistic please. Frontier is not a NISMO. ( hopefully they will) , but to compare a pro-4x to a Pruis is flat-out ridiculous.
You nailed it when you started talking about the amazing deals on the 2024's. I got my Pro-4x less than 40k brand new at 3.9% interest for 60 months, and my payment is very reasonable. I'm happy with my truck, and I'm not bagging on anyone who drives something else.
Awsome video. I close on a 2022 sv 4x4 on friday. The reliability and price sold me on it. Test drove it yesterday and had no complaints. On the plus it only had 19000 miles on it
Not necessarily a truck guy but we’ve had an 06 Dodge Ram quad cab 1500 SRT that only had a rear window seal leak as it’s “big” problem. Great tow vehicle. Rotten back fender wells. Only Nissan I’d like to see is resurrected 240, 260, or 280 Z cars (When they were Datsun). Talk about FAST & great looking sports cars. They had a winner with those & know they’d sell today!😃
I appreciate your comments. If you were dishonest you would have glazed over the issues related to your needs. My needs are different. I only need to go over a few crappy gravel roads and rough city roads. I'm not taking this thing through a swamp. About to buy the 2025 Frontier and I appreciate your feedback. We would all be in a worse place without your honesty. Thank you!
I do light off-roading compared to what I've seen on your outdoor videos. That being said, I have no practical use for a Gladiator Rubicon, but damn they look good and make you feel like your ready for the zombie apocalypse just driving one! Don't need one. But sure would like one! I gotta do like you said, with a family I can't buy off emotions, I gotta buy best for what I actually need. But dang....
There you go. Buy what you need. You're probably 1% of truck buyers who actually need complete 4WD capabilities. Lockers etc. I have a 2024 SV 4WD because I need 4WD because of snow. I'm not off road guy, but I know I can get to places I would never attempt in my previous 2WD Frontier. I've seen factory lifted SV's and Pro 4X's with 35's at my dealer that I'm sure will work just fine for 99.9% of guys who do go off road.
Jason's point is spot on. Anyone or any manufacturer that says this or that vehicles is the best is a m0ron. Everyone has different needs and wants. I need a truck to do truck stuff and am not interested in offroading, so the Pro-X fit my needs perfectly
I've owned 2 Nissan trucks in the past and both were great trucks and went the distance of over 250000 miles. Both were 4 cyl manual trans. I considered buying another but the fuel mileage on the V6 was just poor. I bought a Ford Ranger because it has much better MPG'S.
I bought a Nissan Frontier in 2016 when they still offered the Manual transmission with 4wD and the M226(Dana 44) differential. The truck has been great and I am taking extra special care of it to make it last a long time like I remember Nissan’s always have. I will not purchase the new Frontier specifically because Nissan decided to not offer it with a manual. Sounds petty, but remember, the 6 Speed Manual in the 2016 is robust enough to handle towing a 6000lb trailer and can handle the power of a V8. LOJ conversions offers a kit to mount an LS to the transmission because it can. Nissan did not need to spend a dime on engineering to mount the new 3.6L v6 to the previous generation manual, they chose to stop offering the manual and spited every loyal Nissan owner. Maybe they will change their minds when they go bankrupt.
I have the same issues as you do. I have a 37 year old 5MT that drives like it's brand new. Even as a teenager who abused cars, I could NOT destroy a Nissan manual, even in a Z car. I called corporate Nissan last week and asked if they had any plsn to put the 6MT in the Frontier again. Believe it or not, they told me I'd need to ask the DEALER, who obviously does not make these decisions. They would not let me speak to any design or PR department. So I asked the dealer, but of course they didn't know. The sales Mgr did say there's definitely a demand for it, and that if they get a 2G truck like yours with a manual, it sells immediately. I share your frustration because I also know they ALREADY have the guts of that transmission at Nissan, and the proof is in the new Z car. I do not trade cars every few years like many people do. As good as the Mercedes automatic design may be, all modern automatics are VERY complicated, and someday, there's going to be a $6000 repair bill. It's not like the old days when I rebuilt my Ford C6 myself for $100. All that complexity and expense just to avoid the hard work of shifting. How many times I've been able to push start a manual car when an automatic would have left me stranded. A six speed would be the final touch in the Frontier to keep it as old school as people say it is. I checked them out at the dealer and I really like them. I much rather they would offer the transmission option, rather than focus on THE STUPID things most customers griped about, like a bigger screen and Tele steering. I couldn't care less about that. Maybe I will look for a truck like yours. There's a million mile Frontier on TFL truck channel, so they must be good. Or maybe an old Titan to tow bigger things.
Bought my 2023 frontier SV (4×2) mid April, 2024 32,440 otd, base price 29,440, i shopped for a month before found the right deal, haven't seen under 30k base price since still look at the pricing at different dealers just to see if i got a good deal. Glad i pulled the trigger, got the tactical green, very happy!
I live in the mud. 200-300 miles a week. All I do is offroad. But it gets to a point where you just want to drive flat smooth and get to where you need to go when you spend thst much time in 4 low with lockers engaged.
Nothing wrong with liking a vehicle and saying why you won't buy it. I myself love my frontier but because it does what I want/need but most people don't have those same exact set of wants/needs.
You are not wrong a lot of the features you would love to see in the truck. Frontier owners would love to see you as well, but we don't want to sacrifice that price tag to get it when we can do it after market if needed.
Yep but price and current trim levels should not be effected. Chevy, gmc, jeep, ram, and ford all offer both, everyday pick ups, for low prices and well as top tier offroaders for more money.
You're 100% right the vehicle needs to fit you for what you need it for that's the main reason why you buy it😊 PS isn't the Toyota Tacoma if you take traction control off automatically locks the rear Locker without being it in full four-wheel drive that's what I've been told one button traction control on or off
The tacoma has great tracri9n control and also great torque vectoring transfer algorithms. But the engage the locker on the tacoma (and the frontier) you have to go into 4 low, then engage the rear locker.
New subscriber here,I just bought a 24 Frontier RWD over a 4x4 and love the damn thing it suits me fine as a long term everyday driver/pavement pounder work truck I couldn't see spending the extra money on a 4WD that I would probably never use,I agree its a great truck for 99% of people but not a great off roader for that 1% who would actually need it for that purpose.Altough i cant quite figure out why a RWD would have an offroad mode or how it would work ,so that was a new one.
Congratulations on your new frontier! Awesome truck! I have not looked into it, but I bet the offroad mode on your 2wd uses the traction control system to act like a rear locker and makes sure you get traction to both rear wheels when in the dirt or snow as needed. That's my guess anyway.
A few things holding me back. I often tow trailers in the 3-6k weight range. The 3.8's torque numbers are low. Most of my previous trucks had higher torque than hp numbers. I feel like the nissan engine might leave me winding it out up hills. Also no integrated trailer brake controller is a miss. It doesn't sound like the 2025 refresh addressed the turning radius or camera quality. I'm fine with the looks and most other things about the truck but with these issues it makes it hard for me to choose the frontier over a 2.7 Ranger or a z71 colorado which address my needs.
Nothing wrong with that. The frontier is a great truck. But if I was towing alot and had to get a midsize I'm prefer a turbo too for the power. And I agree if yoy buy a truck to tow over 3500 Pounds an integrated trailer brake sure is much nicer than aftermarket.
Well cant argue with that logic! Thats why your chan is great Sam, your not only entertaining but ya just have so much damn logic thrown in there to. I really liked my 2nd gen 2008 4.0 4X4 Frontier that gave me 416,000 miles before a blown head gasket. And I am hoping my 2015 Xterra will give me as many trouble free miles as my Frontier did. Very tempted to pull the trigger on a 3rd gen Frontier in a couple years if the new engine proves as reliable as the 2nd gen. But none of them would be able to compete with a Jeep Rubicon package off road without a lot of modification and money. Jeep is probably going to continue to rule that roost in America as long as it remains fully locked with solid axles all around when no one else is.
@@MrJEEPJT I think I did that in man or feb when I did the midsize comparison videos. But when the 2025 are all out I will do another for sure. Its great info to have the payload matters.
@@Jason-Samko Jeeps website indicates Gladiator max payload “1,725” pounds *** must be with soft top *** but information is vague on website also “1,600”*** that must be with hardtop
@@MrJEEPJT Yep payload varies by vehicle and the options that are on the vehicle. Usually the more bare bones it is the more payload it has. the more loaded out the less payload.
If you're running Jeeps and Rams in brackish water you must love rust. But drivetrain will hold up. They will survive the time and miles doing what you require. I only trust Nissan trucks. My '95 D21 Hardbody KA24E/5M was at 283k still running reliably and sold easily. The 2017 D40 SV 4X4, 125k I have now is factory undercoated. Solid and all works perfectly. Of course, I don't go where you do. FYI: Ordinary, inexpensive unistrut accessories fit the Utili-track system.
Most important to me is ground clearance, tire size and true electronic front locker as well as water fording capability. For me the nest options in midsize trucks in the gladiator rubicon or chevy colorado zr2
I would like to drill down into the no front LSD. Living in the mountains I was thinking the PRO4x would be perfect except for winter on my unplowed hill with a steep grade. Definitely need traction to all 4 wheels even with winter tires.
@@jstoney7222 I'd buy the Colorado Trail Boss I love the motor love the truck love the power love the price love the Interior Space love the storage and love the looks
Great channel ! I live in Wyoming and hunt in some pretty remote areas. Reliability is a must. I'm currently flip flopping between a Gladiator or a Frontier. Tough decision.
both excellent trucks! Both reliable, both quality, and both capable. Id drive both and find what you like best. But good news is you can not go wrong with either.
Strange about rear lockers. I have a 21 ranger tremor and you can lock the rear anytime 2wd or 4wd. Most other midsize you have to be in 4lo. Lots of F150 2wd only have rear lockers. Wonder why other manufacturers won’t allow it anytime.
It's a Japanese thing. All domestic brands let you use the locker in 4 high. Japanese brands do not. Main reason I sold my 22 tscoma. Horrible 4x4 system
Any truck is a perfect truck if it can do all the things you need regardless of any size, trims, makes, model..etc. That is why there a truck for everyone . 😅
@TheCarGuyOnline I have 2 channels one was called the traditional bowhunting and wilderness podcast (also did podcasts for last 13 years) and then I made this channel and called it samko work shop so I could have a channel to though anything non hunting related on. But since this channel has turned into all trucks stuff and I don't do podcasts any more thought I would change both names so there was continuity between both. So my Hunting one is now samko trad bow and this one is Jason samko. Wanted both to be connected so viewers of both knew it was me.
Ok so it doesn't offroad quite as well as some other mid sizes. For the price of a chevy trailboss or an AT4 you could buy a frontier and a small tailer AND a quad and make it further down the trail anyway without beating up your truck.
Same reasons I will not get one. Not just for swamp driving, which I don’t do, but for general 4x4 driving beyond easy trails and dirt roads, the Frontier doesn’t have really good chops. Not even the Pro4X. Wouldn’t survive hard trails without Titan swapping. But if I do Titan swapping I will do a 1-ton swapping (which the Titan swapping is practically) to a Gladiator because both the starting point and end result are more capable with the Gladiator.
Agree 100%. The frontier is one of the best midsize trucks for many people. But not for my needs. My trucks are tools. And I need the right tool for the job.
I dunno, if you’re only sticking to comparing stock vehicles yes, but very few off-roaders keep their vehicles stock. I’ve seen some Tacomas and frontiers do some pretty serious trails and crawling. I have a 2023 frontier with just a fox suspension(2.5” lift) upgraded UCA’s and 33’s and it’s definitely capable of more than easy trails and dirt roads
I respect your opinion on the nissan as I have been looking to buy it the past few weeks. the SV long bed is what I want as the use of the vehicle would be at the most light off road mostly camping trips. specifically want a 6 foot bed as a plumber i would utilize it. the low 30k is what I can afford do you think this the best option for that use and price?
also if I'm looking to get a good year end deal, I was told my a family member the last week of December is the best. if that is true do I wait until the day I'm ready to walk out the door to open communications?
@@h3rmzi the sv longbed sounds perfect for what you need. 6es December will be the best month to buy. I will be posting some videos on deals in a few weeks to get everyone ready to buy. @Jason-Samko been watching more videos and you sure do talk up the dodge. it was the first truck brand I had .. you think I can get a dodge for the price and all? I just figured nissan had getter deals.
@h3rmzi i think ram and nissan are both capable of great deals. However you have to find the right dealer to do. But both are amazing trucks and both can be negotiated better than any other brand
It is di. But given the option of carbon cleaning at 120k vs turbo issues is the reason I believe many people are not worried about the direct injection of the Frontier. They trust the Na Motor more than a 4 turbo.
I agree with Jason, I live in the south (Louisiana) and I am in the market for a new truck. I am not a of roader but going to the hunting camp here, I have to go through a lot of swamp roads. I'm stuck between buying a jeep or a frontier. I really need the lockers (front & back axle) but it will be a daily driver. For the most part it will be on dry pavement and gravel roads. Jason could you give any advise on my situation? which one one should I go with? please help
My 2 cents: the gladiator is the funnest truck made. Its also the most capable. It also is excellent on road. (I just did 4 10 a day trips over the last week back and forth to my dads to help as he is sick. 2 trips in the 4 runner and 2 trips with the gladiator. i prefer doing that trip in the gladiator. The more up right seating was more comfortable and the amazing visability make is less fatiguing to see what every car around me was doing). The gladiator is just as reliable as the frontier, rides great, parts are cheap, its built stronger etc. But the frontier is no slouch and is a very well made truck for a great price and the same if not slightly better reliability (but parts cost much more). I think the frontier is the perfect everyday every mans pickup today. But The gladiator is in a league of its own and excels at so many things. This may sound crazy but its a testimate to how I feel about the gladiator. Im considering hanging on to my23 glad for 3 years instead of 2 I normally flip a truck at. That way I can buy a 2026 gladiator rubicon and put a 120k 6 year warranty on it. Then I will watch for mopar sales on the 3.6 new crate motor and buy one before they stop making them in 2029. I will then keep that 2026 gladiator for 10 years and replace the motor if needed somewhere in that 400k miles I will put on the 26. This would let me have the amazing gladiator for along time with minimal costs for the amount of miles I would drive. I could get the new motor for probably 6k on sale and any other parts needed would be available after market. I love the gladiator that much.

Having owned a TRD Prerunner; Having use of the rear locker in 2wd should be available! There use to be a grey wire mod that allowed 4x4 locker use outside of lo.
I love all you off road in your dreams rock climbing vertical climb dreamers. The Frontier is perfectly capable of 99% of your off road needs. If you want, Im sure they can compete with the Gladiator and raise the prices as well. The 2025 refresh is a nice one.
Actually I would get a frontier stuck the first day I tried to go where I go with it. And it would come home with the valance gone and some water damage and alot of scratches. And thats just in 1 day. it is a great truck. But it will not do 99% of my offroad needs as you say. and I drive this way 3 to 4 times a week.
you have to do the math. Most of the time leasing cost more than buying and selling. But other times It does not. All depends on the deal and the math.
@Jason-Samko is it possibly to get a high mileage lease ? I drive 20k miles a year on average, I usually don't want to keep the car after 80k -100k miles either . But of course I hate being stuck with payments always so it's tough.
@beepak8902 usually 15k a year is as high as thry go without paying per mile. I drive 40k miles a year and find the best option is to buy and buy as low as possible then sell in 2 years with 75k miles on it. Even if you loose 5-8k it's still a better bet. But sometimes if I buy it very low new I can not loose a penny or I can make money on em. Buying as low as possible is the key. Learning to negotiate is vital.
@beepak8902 no choice but to always ha e a car payment when you drive 40k miles a year. Even if you financed and kept a truck for 5 years it would have 200k miles and basically be toast at the time of pay off. But buying say a 50k truck for 42k drivn8ng it for 2 years with a 700 a month payment then selling it for 39k means in reality you only paid 3k or 125 dollars a month while you owned it. Even though you are paying 700 a month you get your money back when you sell it
I just want one to haul home improvement stuff like wood or cement, tools, groceries, furniture etc. Currently don't own a home just yet, so I'm limited with my car 😅
I looked at a few new Frontiers this weekend. I did not like the fit and finish on the vehicles. Seemed cheap to me. I was disappointed in what I saw. Right now I'm leaning towards a Honda Ridgeline. 🤷
You can easily do the bypass mod on the frontier so you can use the locker in 2hi 4hi and 4l its very easy you can find it on UA-cam just sayin. And titan swap and theow 35s on it.
@alexanderb4795 nothing until next year. I have a 23 gladiator rubicon that does what I need. And next year will probably buy a 25 gladiator rubicon if I can make the right deal happen. If not I will be in a 25 colorado zr2 if I can make that deal happen. If not I will be in a 25 ram power wagon. I need front lockers and capabilities
@ Power Wagon sounds awesome they come with a winch already installed. I need something reliable any advice on which truck I should buy next. I want it to last at least 200k miles without major repairs and I do my oil changes every 3k to 5k miles.
@alexanderb4795 the frontier, Ridgeline, gladiator, are great 200k midsize that are cheap to maintain. Full size id say f150 with the v8 or ram with the v6. Both again will be low cost to maintain to 200
Not sure what current rates thru nissan are right now. But with how good the deals currently are it might be worth doing a higher rate at a credit union to get the better deals if the dealer tries to pull that nissan is only offering x off stuff.
And that would be an amazing truck for most people. But like robert said below, for those of use that run swamps and mud we need the lockers and we need them in 4 high. If you build your 24 that way send me pics! I would love to see it. sounds like a great looking truck.

@davidjernigan8161 yep toyota should of added bump stops and will now probably change the aluminum shock stop ring to steel. Good news is thos is an easy fix though
Just build it yourself,it’s still thousands cheaper than the TRD and you can put your own stuff on it for upgrades. But i understand in your situation that isn’t going to work
Sounds like you might be in a situation where you should build a truck or jeep to meet what you do with it. I'm like that with my rifles now. I don't buy any factory rifles anymore. I'm old enough I don't want to deal with the flaws of a factory rifle so I buy custom. I usually get a single load that works for the rifle and I know it will always work perfectly. Your driving situation in the swamps requires something that you really can't buy standard. You probably have to make some mods of some sort to work best from what it sounds like.
@@duggydo would love to mod or build something. But I have to balance as I still have to drive it 40k miles a year to get to many of the hunts I do. So I need reliability and some road manors too
@@Jason-Samko If you were to build something for offroad and travel, your best bet might be an Excursion. They have the solid axle and relatively modern features. There's a 2016 F250 Lariat on BAT right now that someone basically converted to a modern Excursion. It's pricey though. The current bid is $89k. The conversion is really nicely done.
@@duggydo Yep building a truck would be nice. Id love nothing more than to put 40s and 3.5 lift on my gladiator and regear it. But I have to find balance of offroad, on road capability and reliability. I drive 40k miles a year to hunt many states and pull a trailer all over the country. so I also have to watch the cost vs resale ratio so that I dont loose money as I have to flip them every 2 years do to high miles i drive.
Love mine. Will buy another again. And reliability is paramount to me as I travel 40k miles a year all across the country. Can't think of a truck I'd rather be in for the places I go and how I drive
From the sounds of your needs is that you’ll always have payments to make on your vehicles. You say you buy them cheap, but you also mentioned that you would destroy the front of the Nissan Frontier. I’m not sure your resale will be good on any truck with a destroyed front end. You’re not buying what you need when you’re always purchasing a new vehicle, destroying the front bumpers and beating on them and then selling them. You need to buy something that can give you longevity, that you could pay off and use specifically for your needs. Or, perhaps like a friend of mine uses a Mahindra Roxor Diesel to hunt. We too live in the swamps. He has 35 inch swamp tires on his 2018 Roxor with 70k miles on it with front and rear lockers and it solely lives in the swamps of Florida. Other than oil changes and air filters it does the job he needs it to do and more. Good thing is, something like a Frontier could tow a Roxor to the trailhead, and you’re off to your hunting destination. 🙂
I put 40k miles a year on my trucks. There is no truck made today that would let me buy it, pay it off and keep driving it. It would be dead before it was paid off. But sounds like your friend has a good system for what he needs. Me, my system works perfect as I have not spent a penny on a truck in the last 8 trucks. I buy em low and sell them right costing me nothing

@Jason… True but to be honest, GM and Ford hedged their bets and included trick suspensions and high torque engines to make them appealing to the masses driving on the streets. The Multimatic is the best vehicle suspension I ever drove on the street (had a previous gen ZR2) and the comparison included sports cars with Fox and Ohlins. The Ford RR has an amazing engine AND the live shocks.

@@decoy916 The thing I cannot understand is why Honda still uses timing belts when other manufacturers switched to chains two decades ago. There's a 2007 Million Mile Frontier on TFL truck channel. How can Toyota e better than thst? Older Toyotas are generally good, except the frames melted away from.rust, where Nissan had such a solid design that they STILL use it today, which of course the FBs make fun of.

@bro.weaver1282 I seen that for the last gen. Not sure if anything available yet for the current
Great points. Agree 100%

Owned two and they did everything I asked of them. Only stepped up to full size for higher towing capacity.

Thanks Samko, I understand your thinking.
Thanks. The frontier is a great truck. Would love to own one. Wish they would make a trim level that would work for me.
Ok so it doesn't offroad quite as well as some other mid sizes.
For the price of a chevy trailboss or an AT4 you could buy a frontier and a small tailer AND a quad and make it further down the trail anyway without beating up your truck.
@WheresTheSauce or I could just buy the truck that does what I personally need it to do. And a chevy trailboss doesn't either.
It's best to start negotiating when you are ready to buy that day or the next. Sends a powerful message when you tell them I'm buying one today!
@Jason-Samko thank you I appreciate your response
Isn't the engine DI only? Didn't Ford have big problems with DI only gas engines and added SI to keep the valves clean? Just asking, I'm no expert.
It is di. But given the option of carbon cleaning at 120k vs turbo issues is the reason I believe many people are not worried about the direct injection of the Frontier. They trust the Na Motor more than a 4 turbo.
If you didnt smash into things the front end wouldnt get smashed up
But then you wouldn’t get to where you want to go 😃
then it would be a tool that would not work for the job i need it to do.
@@Jason-Samkosorry what vehicle comes standard with a huge brush guard?
@yyfreak1637 jeep! And gladiator.
I live in south louisiana, and people in north do not understand swamps, I get everything you're saying
Thank you. Appreciate that. I love the frontier. But it won't do what I need a truck to do down here
I agree with Jason, I live in the south (Louisiana) and I am in the market for a new truck.

Yep the locker in 4 low only is what made me sell my tacoma. For what I do I use thst locker daily.
Don't off-road so my 24' Pro4X was more of an aesthetic decision. However, it should be all I need when the zombie apocalypse happens😊
Would you consider a new tacoma? Im not feeling them. That trd pro looks real good....but
I would not personally. Toyota doesnt off a truck that will work for my needs.
Do you think leasing vehicles makes sense if you're getting rid of vehicles quickly?
you have to do the math.
@Jason-Samko you pay cash on these vehicles you buy or u finance? You don't mind always having a car payment if u finance?
@beepak8902 no choice but to always ha e a car payment when you drive 40k miles a year. Even if you financed and kept a truck for 5 years it would have 200k miles and basically be toast at the time of pay off. But buying say a 50k truck for 42k drivn8ng it for 2 years with a 700 a month payment then selling it for 39k means in reality you only paid 3k or 125 dollars a month while you owned it. Even though you are paying 700 a month you get your money back when you sell it
You're right. You don't need a truck. You need a swap buggy
😂😂 would love one!
I just want one to haul home improvement stuff like wood or cement, tools, groceries, furniture etc. Currently don't own a home just yet, so I'm limited with my car 😅
Frontier is a perfect do it all truck
I looked at a few new Frontiers this weekend. I did not like the fit and finish on the vehicles. Seemed cheap to me. I was disappointed in what I saw. Right now I'm leaning towards a Honda Ridgeline. 🤷
@oceanhedonist265 everyone I know with a Ridgeline loves it. But so does everyone I k ow thst owns a frontier too
You can easily do the bypass mod on the frontier so you can use the locker in 2hi 4hi and 4l its very easy you can find it on UA-cam just sayin. And titan swap and theow 35s on it.
@@thedude828-ed2nn you are correct. All that is possible
Excellent breakdown & reasoning. I fall in the 99%
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
So what truck are you buying
Both again will be low cost to maintain to 200
Any low interest deals on 2024 models?? Maybe 0 or 1.9?? With a few grand off??
Not sure what current rates thru nissan are right now. But with how good the deals currently are it might be worth doing a higher rate at a credit union to get the better deals if the dealer tries to pull that nissan is only offering x off stuff.
I totally get that.

You can do that to every truck, but in the case of the frontier, you would still the lack the ability to do 4h and the front locker.
And that would be an amazing truck for most people. But like robert said below, for those of use that run swamps and mud we need the lockers and we need them in 4 high. If you build your 24 that way send me pics! I would love to see it. sounds like a great looking truck.

Just build it yourself,it’s still thousands cheaper than the TRD and you can put your own stuff on it for upgrades. But i understand in your situation that isn’t going to work
Always a great idea and then you can make it your way
Sounds like you might be in a situation where you should build a truck or jeep to meet what you do with it.
Nissan should work with arb to make front bumpers for offroading
That would be nice. I'd rather them work with Eton and make a front locker and offer a 3 inch lift and 33s
The gladiator is definitely not reliable . That’s the issue I see . Had one and it was horrible

Chevy did it, gm did it, ford did it, jeep did it, so did ram.
@Jason… True but to be honest, GM and Ford hedged their bets and included trick suspensions and high torque engines to make them appealing to the masses driving on the streets.
