Three reasons in the right order, why I liked the ending: 1. Content: This movie is form over substance (höhö) all the way. Dialogues are pretty much irrelevant. The picture tells the story. 2. Contrast: The whole movie was a full contrast, whether maximal stress/pain - or beauty as a godly superpower. As balance to these pornlike super long closeups I felt the need to see a radical payoff as balance. 3. Culture: Is this kind of body horror actually horror, when it’s just self-caused deformation? Wasn’t the pain she felt in the toilet in the beginning alike? Is looking like a “monster” actually a problem?
@@reelwatkinsOne last interesting point: As the pain started to go physically the fear of going back rapidly became bigger - avoiding the probability of dying much sooner. Plus fomo and the addiction is complete.
They went off the rails in the 3rd act and it didn’t really work IMO… I think the first 2 acts were really good they could have developed the characters a bit more. The themes were solid would have liked a fleshed out story and bit more thought put into the story. A mix of The Thing, Stephen King with Tarantino esque style…
The film should've ended with a shot in the bathroom stall, going up to the mirror and then the reveal of ElizaSue monster. Next shot, plain black and the song Pump it up.
@@reelwatkins I'm not into horror movies at all, but a friend of mine told me that he heard that it was Demi's best performance. So we went to the theater with full expectations, well, that and the eye candy to be fair. "Oh... sweet summer child!" I definitely wasn't expecting any of that, and don't get me wrong I was loving the movie up to those last 10 minutes. I think it all sums up to Elizasue didn't have a revenge on Harvey, her creator.
He didn't say that ALL people who like slasher films do not like demon films, he said that many people have strong horror genre preferences and used that as an example.
When did horror fans dislike blood and gore? yeah that can happen in movies such as these. Just because it's not advertised as trash cinema doesn't mean it can't embrace it. I love the fact that it goes off the rails. We need more of that. I am really into arthouse slow cinema but I am getting tired of these modern A24 type of horror. It takes itself too seriously and they aren't all that particularly good, so I welcome these type of films with open arms. More guts for me.
I think the thing that really gets me are the people saying “it’s so bloody” or talking about the body horror like it’s the worst thing they’ve ever seen and when I saw it I left the theater thinking “… that was it?” The final 10-20 minutes of it was a lot of fun, finally, but it was a small payoff for nearly a 2.5hr film. Needed to cut the run time down to at least 1.45 maaaybe 2hrs.
Probably the best horror. Film of the year
I'd have to decline but I respect it
Nah, love the 3rd act. It's fucking awesome. As a whole this movie is fantastic.
Movie fan but not really a horror fan speaking and this movie was very good. The Heretic as well. See you over there!

I love this! Thanks for sharing

Nice review. I 100% agree with you, I wasnt a fan of the final act but it didnt ruin the movie for me.
Can’t lie ending through me… solid first 2 acts. But I appreciate the big swing . ( lets give Demi her credit acting was great)
Great review! Reminds me of dead becomes her of an aging actress

I would have ended the film after the second cloning when she looked in the mirror. More consistence and better runtime.
Totally agree. I dislike slasher OT effects movies.

It’s funny because as I was watching it I was expecting the film to cut to black after the mirror reveal but then the film kept going… lol

isn't that a little presumptuous to say that people who like slasher movies dont like demon movies and vice versa? im a big fan of both!

@@badinfluence3814 please watch again. he clearly stated that if you like slasher films you must hate demon films.

The themes are so similar to Divinity (2023), it must have been a major influence on this film.
Also, you are probably aware that your microphone is way overdriven and clipping pretty hard.
I still need to watch this!
Dang it. Thanks for the heads up, I'll take a look at it before I do my Transformers review tomorrow.

You're giving out spoilers of what happens at the very end of the movie. At least have the courtesy of saying this review is full of spoilers.
He literally did within the first 40 seconds...
@@nathan-k4y yup around 0:40 he says “we’re gonna talk full spoilers” lmao
