1st year he brought a greatly diminished Cam Newton to the brink of the playoffs; 2nd year, a rookie (who has turned out to be a real dud) to the playoffs and probowl. D has never been lower than top 1/3 of the league overall during the 4-year post-Brady period. Problem was almost strictly offense--and as long as McDaniels was there, this was much better. Bill Belichick was the head coach of a dynasty that went to 10 Super Bowls and won 6 with Tom Brady. I am not sure how he did it being the GM and the head coach for those years-- both are full-time jobs. Belichick also known for letting players go one year ahead of their expiration date, yet he did not fire Belichick the GM despite his last 4 dismal years. However, I would not hire him to another head coaching only job-- I would never give him a G job-- until he can explain making Matt Patricia his offensive coordinator and destroying Mac Jones career. I saw a spiteful man who should have been fired in New England after OC Patricia coached.

This ownership is terrible almost worse than Jeffrey Lurie is at owning the Eagles. The Falcons can’t even hire a head coach that will help them win. What a disgrace this team has become. Hiring a guy like this is a terrible idea. They need someone with experience. The falcons not only won’t win not season but now they need a QB they have nothing. The falcons will be lucky to win 5 games next season.

Belichick is still a great coach, but if he can’t specify what the offense will look like, and if he wants total personnel control, how long will that last at 71? His défenses are still elite, but who was going to be OC? Who was going to be QB? Brady ain’t walking through that door. Belichick the GM got Belichick the coach fired. That wasn’t going to last without real rethinking.

I'm 65, and I always laugh at younger people who ignorantly assume that if you're 60 or 70, you somehow become some sort of mental invalid. Well, Colin and others reading this, Belichick is a lot smarter than you are. He was smarter than you before he turned 70, and he's smarter than you now. The only reason you think Belichick is washed up is because you're too ignorant to believe any differently.

The last couple of years of Belichick’s tenure damaged his legacy. Didn’t want to get a QB off the street, that was better than what he had on his team, to just win as many games as possible, maybe make a last “run”. To just “stand pat” and keep losing was not a good look. And he wonders why he can’t get a job. He’s a seventy something, stubborn and set in his ways. Folks are thinking the game has passed him by. By the way, teams aren’t exactly standing in line to hire fellow seventy something Pete Carrol either.
